Thankyou for this video. I had a creak at the front that I struggled to find. I had changed D bushes, done the subframe Bush modification etc.... After watching this I found it! The rubber bush imside the top mount was knackered. Silence is golden!

Recently assembled two front strut units in my kitchen in between making pancakes due to lack of space. The deep dish design for the top nut on the shock top was annoying and awkward. Have not installed yet. My idea of redi-struts but all Motorcraft parts. Opted to get new bolts for the knuckle as well since some people snap them off. My air hammer is ready in the holster, ha ha I don't have the blue hook tool you have but I suppose a pry bar will do. The Taurus set up is nearly identical and your method is perfect. Surprised you got the lower ball nut off without putting some tension on there, perhaps you did and I missed that. Super Job!

Interesting way of doing but I see the logic. Those mcpherson strut pinch bolts are a PITA. I have made a wedge tool before to pry it apart to get the strut off. I might have I use this technique next time! Cheers.

Zed Man I never attempt to dismantle the leg anymore since in the past I've had the pinch bolts snap due to corrosion.
@simonjohnhinton19387 жыл бұрын
Zed Man or you could have a pinch bolt sheer off like it did on the n/s rear strut of my mk3 I had to take the hub off and drill it out. a good way of removing the shock from the hub is to pry it open with a hammer and chisel followed by some wd40. I always copper ease a new one to the hub to make it easier next time. I've got all new springs and shocks on my ghia x and it drives like a new car. the old ones were well and truly past it.

Great video as usual Rob. Helping KZbin keep the old Eurotrash on the road. Its curious that they have the single pinch bolt on the Mondeo suspension seen as its only sold in the Euro market and after a few years on the road you will never get that out.
@OneAuto7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. They love the single pinch bolt, it probably would have come out but when you've been burnt before you learn valuable lessons. That's just my experience.
@CMC59616 жыл бұрын
My 2012 Volvo S60 T6AWD uses the same single pinch bolt design as shown on the Ford Mondeo MK4, by moving from previous two sets of bolt/nut design (which is great for repair!) as seen on my old 2008 Volvo S60. It's a cost reduction design for the manufacturer by minimizing fasteners from four to one, but it's really a nightmare to take the strut out from hub carrier for repair. After 7 years driving in Minnesota with a lot of salt on winter roads, it took me more than two hours today just to get the strut out from the hub carrier. I hope I had watched this video before my repair - it's a smart way to take whole strut and sub carrier out rather than taking the strut out from hub carrier. Thank you for sharing.

Did this job today for the first time ever, took me over 6 hours just to complete 1 side. Nightmare, also I'm a rookie Edit: did the other side tonight took about 3 hours, things that held me up were the strut top nut did not want to come off, vice grips on top of strut piston and high torque impact took ages to remove it, that and lining up the marks properly as they wanted to move when releasing tension on the spring, everything else was fine in terms of removing and reinstalling, nice to have a helper to start the strut to car body bolts while you locate the strut.
