Having just done my wishbones with the help of your videos I really didn't want to struggle like you did and came up with a way to prevent the problems you had. The passenger side only has a short drive shaft and does not have the extra joint in it that "pops" out. This means it keeps the hub where it should be and wishbone lines up first time. The drivers side however can pop out and thus it swings the hub outwards and makes getting the wishbone balljoint in hard. Zip tie the joint up together tight so it cannot split and its as easy as the passenger side :) Thanks for the video, I like how you keep it honest and show the stuggles.

I'm starting to like that Universal CV Boot tool! We've had a few cases over the last year where a simple CV boot change turned into a complete axle replacement, because the axle shaft splines got damaged when pulling / pressing the outer cv joint off. I have added the tool to my Amazon wish list! =)

Thomas EXOVCDS that's the problem of KZbin videos is always something you see and you want lol

Universal boots + that pneumatic tool is definitely the way to go, it saves a lot of time. I've worked in too many places where they didn't want to "invest" in new "unnecessary" tools, and we were told to do it the old way, which half the time meant taking the axle off and doing it in the vice.

Hi, could do with guidance on doing the wishbone on the ground. Biggest challenge is getting the old rusty bolts off. How do you deal with badly rusted bolts and if I need to cut the bolts off are replacements only obtainable from main dealers?

Really enjoyed watching this and got an insight to the job. However, the problems with alignment of the three inboard holes means that I prefer to approach the job another way. 1. Leave hub nut alone. 2. Remove the steering ball joint. 3. Break the ball joint using a thick bar between the nut and the outer CV joint knuckle, untightning the nut acts like a ball joint puller. 4. Lever down on the control arm (I used a pickaxe) and remove the ball joint from the hub carrier. Push the strut,hub,disc etc forward to allow control arm to come upwards and relax pressure on inboard end.
@Ricky-zj6sy2 жыл бұрын
Just did a similar job tonight while replacing the driveshaft, exactly the same approach I took mate. Worked a treat to break the ball joint taper by backing the nut against a suitable socket to force it down, then two pieces of wood and a tapered piece hammered between did the rest.

Any tips and tricks for a seized axle in the wheel hub?
@FLINTSTONES453 жыл бұрын
I'm struggling with pushing the hub in. I've tried turning the disc and the other wheel turns OK. There is a small gap between the drive shaft where its jointed and turns and it won't go in any further. I've unbolted the steering joint and I still can't fit the ball joint, it just touching underneath before where it goes in. I've unbolted the wish bone with one bolt on its on not where anti roll bar any ideas would be helpful and if I can't finish it do you think I should get a Mobile mechanic?

Good job. That's hub mate's a good thing. Now, this'll make you laugh. Few years ago I had to put a rack boot on. Well after struggling for over an hour, they told me it was a universal one. First I'd done in years and never heard of one. Cut it to the correct size and it took 2 minutes lol. Well someone has to provide the laughs eh, you've guessed it, usually me.

Well if last year was anything to go by, someone else will have to do my work now. Overdid it repairing the Nuffield, and never recovered. Old age really caught up. Ok if I can pace myself, have breaks or wait, but mustn't take on something I have to finish :( It sucks mate, however there's a lot of people younger than me that can't do as much so....just have to make the best of things.

Tom williams hi mate unfortunately that's too broad of a question and really does depend on manufacturers for example I've seen an AC sensor fail and cause a car not to start pulling down the 5 volt reference it all depends on the car which shares common ground / references would be quite difficult to do a video as it might lead people into the wrong thing on their particular car
