In this video I tackle my wife's 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and a sliding door that seems to have trouble closing. We inspect and disassemble the wiring harness, sliding door assembly and power sliding door module.

I cannot thank you enough. I'm occasionally mechanically inclined but have no discernable car knowledge. This video just saved me as my door refused to shut, on the weekend, 24 hours before a blizzard hitting town. The interior wire/pulley system had come off track and was not retracting. The door is now closed AND electronically connected and working! Thank you for making this super clear and knowledgeable video!!! I was terrified of making it worse the whole time, but your video made it possible to keep going and get it right!

Very Informative, thanks for your help in learning"How To!" I've worked in the automotive repair business off and on through the years. My dad was a diesel/gasoline engine mechanic and I learned alot from him. Also, I worked in paint and body shops where I learned another side of the industry. But as every year model adds more and more technology, we all have to continue learning "how to!" I've been helping a friend with her 2005 Dodge Caravan. Replaced the driver's side power window motor recently. No problem there, have done it many times before on a number of vehicles. But sliding side doors and how they operate I haven't had to deal with until now. Your video and the way you put it all together is very straight forward and to the point. I know one of the problems that the van I'm working on is that both doors need new wiring harnesses. And a cleaning of all parts and pieces would be of extreme help in getting both doors to operate as intended. Again, thanks for your help. I have saved your video so that I can use it as a guide and to share this information with anyone else who might need it in the future. God 🙏 Bless You and your family. Great video. My cable broke inside the motor housing (under the black cover). Unfortunately, I had to replace the whole track assembly for $500. At the end of the day, the door works and I didn't have to pay the dealer to fix it. Thanks.

You should of had it recalibrated to see if that would have fixed it as you did take it apart and moved the motor putting it out of calibration. I worked at the minivan repairing these caravans and that is what I would have done. Any time we replace the assembly we have to recalibrate them.

I used to have a Honda Odyssey, that had similar door issues, i had to keep it moving freely as you did with the cables and such, but luckily the Honda had a fuse related to the automatic doors, (#13 if i remember). i figured out that the door had to be fully open, then i pulled the fuse, waited 30 seconds, and put it back in, voila fixed. It seemed as long as i kept the door track clean, and lubricated i didnt have any issues. nice repair Adam!

Nice deduction! I’m having an issue with the door latch striker is a little high and when I close it it hits the sliding door latch high and causes the sliding door to fail close…. Is there a way to raise the sliding door up or lower the latch striker? Thank you

Thankyou very much, your video is very informative, i think I've got the same trouble, cause my T&C do the same thing of the door, but instead of the sound of clicked when it try to close, mine doesn't close, the door loose it the way at the beginning of the track. Now in the test of "door open" it doesnt do the correct function cause its sounds like the gears are broken or something, i'll hope the solution doesnt be expensive, i'll kep you inform.

I would think using 3-in-1 to lube it up would be a terrible idea considering its exposure to dirt & dust because of its location and that oil acts like a dust magnet trapping all those particles. Yes/No?

Our door just stopped opening and closing, but we do get the “unlock click” which is different than the “safety click” that you demonstrated. Does anyone know if the module has to be programed? I purchased an OEM module. When I tried to operate the door after I changed the module, the door would not open or close. The button above the rearview mirror, inside button, door handle, none worked. I took it back apart, installed the original module and now it works again. I assumed I could swap the module. Any chance the module I received is bad? The part number I received is the same as the existing module. The door works most of the time. But sometimes we have the same issue as is shown in the video, so I was hoping to resolve it by replacing the module.

Thank you for a great video!! I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The driver's side door opens and closes with the motor BUT manually opening the door takes a little effort. The passenger side door manually opens and closes freely which made me think my problem is I need to lubricate something on the driver's side door. like rollers. However after watching your video lubrication is not the issue, rather its dust and gunk on the cable as you have found! So now I know what to do to fix my problem! Thanks again.

Nice repair Adam. Is the faulty control module a non serviceable part i.e. plastic welded, it would be so nice if you could get into it and show us if any of its pcb components had had the infamous magic smoke escape. I wouldn't be surprised if it was as simple as a bad diode or burnt out resistor that’s killed this control module.
@Allhandlesalreadytaken96 жыл бұрын
I was hoping for the same... nice vid nonetheless. Buy an old used VW and you will have car electronics repair content for months.... don't ask me how I know that.

Jay T same for me, I had a project car, but the more I fix it the more something else broke. I think a 16 year old car is no fun anymore. There not build like arcades.
@onecircuit6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I did take it apart just to see if it was anything obvious but everything looked fine. Unfortunately most components found in automotive applications are usually special versions of commonly found components. For example you could fine a chip that is actually the same as a consumer part you could get from say Mouser or Digikey, but you wouldn't know because the part # in the chip is completely different and all the pins have been swapped around. I imagine this is to discourage people from reverse engineering or repairing their PCBs. :(
@EdwinNoorlander6 жыл бұрын
OneCircuit yes I now. And so you buy something’s new for one broken resistor or IC. Better can fix Arcade systems or retro tech computers.
