Just replaced this on our van. A couple suggestions to make fixing it a little less of a nightmare: 1. If you remove the window track bolts mentioned at 6:29 in the video, you will have the extra play needed to separate the inner panel and lock actuator bracket without breaking it. Still a major pain, but it helps. 2. Door locked shut - If you remove the interior door panel and expose the long metal push rod, you can clamp down on the push rod and push/pull to unlock the door. Clamp down as close to the side with the lock actuator as possible to keep the rod from buckling. This will free up the lock actuator so you can now open the door. 3. Be patient and have a bunch of band aids ready for all the slices on your fingers you're about to have.

Thanks for the walkthrough. Got it done, but this was a rough one. Never been so close to a rage quit, especially wrestling the back window track and latch back in while it was all hindered by cables and no good access, and inability to reach outside. I can fix anything eventually but the engineers that buried this sure to fail part all the way in the back instead of by the handle are not very bright. No way they ever thought anyone would be pulling this apart ever. The one I just changed barely lasted 4 years out of the factory!

About 5:30, the lower cable has magically become free so it can be pushed through. Later it is magically reinstalled. How do you free that cable?

Question, my 2018 caravan will not unlock, so I figure it is the actuator, but will not open because I can't unlock the door at all. How can I get the door open to get to the latch assembly?
@smittie6210 ай бұрын
This is the first video that truly shows how to do this repair that should be a warranty item. Thanks. O think I will do both of my actuators on my 2016 Caravan. That noise is annoying. I need your on how to open door that is locked shut because of actuator failure. Will definitely be sending a "Big Thanks".

So the rear window track was just skipped? How did you get that back in with the lock attached??

I followed this video for a VW Routan 2010. I completed the job after a lot of struggle (as expected). Here are my tips: 1.- I used a 2-weeks pill case to organize all the screws I was removing. I used tape to mark with letters where each one was (on the panel) and then I labeled each of the spaces in the pillbox with the same letters. I placed the screws in the pillbox. That way when I screwed them back in the labels marked where the screws went. Much less stress than seeing all the screws mixed up. 2.- The latch assembly came out with the side window track on it. Maybe it is just a difference between Chrysler and VW. But because of that when I tried to put it back in place it was almost impossible to make that track be placed where (and how) it was supposed to be. So I had to remove the molding on one side of the window (on the outside) so I could see the track from there and be able to pull it out with pliers. You need another person to do this. But pulling that track from the outside helped the latch assembly to fit better. 3.- There came a point where the latch assembly would no longer move back inside the door. But from the outside, in the back, the assembly was already about a half inch from the screw holes. So with the help of another person I put the screws in and they pulled the piece into place. 4.- The new actuator came with an arm that didn't hold the rod properly. It kept coming loose when I tried to put the panel back together. So I swapped that arm with the one from the old actuator. In the end everything turned out fine but at times I just wanted to stop and take the car to the shop with all the loose parts and looking stupid for trying to fix this alone.

Gentlemen, this video was great and I accomplished w/o a problem. Of course I came across the many of the same challenges you did in your video, but at the nd of the day, according to my local Dodge dealer estimate, I saved $1.1/1.2K. I greatly appreciate ya'll putting these together as it was my first time accomplishing this task.

Very helpful video, I yanked the window guide rail out when I pulled the lock actuator apature out, was a bit of a chore to reinstall, took 4 to 5 hours total, not the hardest repair but definitely a challenge

I just used this video to replace my right side actuator. Where's a lot of miss information in this video, at 5:08 he says pull panel out & backwards to disconnect some clips that are in an area. BUT there is no rear movement to the panel. The way to disconnect the clips is to remove the two window rail bolts 6:26 & the three latch bolts 2:28, the movement to release the clips 6:04 well come from the latch being able to move forward, not the panel moving backward. Than when you reassemble the latch just tread the three latch bots in a few turns, than push the latch forward the full depth of the bolts, this will give you the movement needed to reinsert the clips, He says he got the clips back in but doesn't show it because he didn't understand how to get the movement needed & doing this step wrung is most likely how the part that broke was broken. Next the unit he was working on didn't have the rear window rail attached to it & if your unit does have the rail. Going back together is a lot trickier. Pro-tip, remove the outer bottom window trim, as than a helper can help verbally guide the installers efforts to mate the rail with the rear rubber window canal, this is nearly impossible to lineup without removing the outside bottom trim & having someone eyeball it for you, but pretty simple if you do.

Yes, it is a brain surgery but thankfully a successful one. You tutorial was very easy to follow and your method worked. Two notes I would like to share: * I didn’t see a need to remove the window regulator motor * loosening the two bolts that hold the window glass would make it easier in disassembling. Overall thank you so much. You have been a helpful guide.

This is a great video. Thank you. It really shows how MUCH is involved in doing this. I am curious how long this job took, as a professional with all the right tools, from start to finish? Some of the comments are saying hours and hours, which is what I suspect would be required of me as a DIYer.

Um, no. I'll just listen to the noise and consider trading it within the year. After reading the comments on the fail rate of this part, I guess I should feel lucky that it has lasted from 2016 til 2024. I did go into the set up menu and disabled the 'automatic lock & unlock' feature to avoid hearing that failed actuator noise when driving.

I just changed mine on the left sliding door and my latch assembly has a big motor attached and the window rail is fully attached and had to remove the entire assembly with the rail I see that there are 2 different ones the one in your video is part number 68030380ac and mine is 68030378ae. Mine is more of a pain obviously but what’s the difference do I have some other feature that you don’t?

Hi perhaps you can help me. I have a manual sliding door that cannot be opened from inside. It unlocks and lock fine, it’s not child lock, pulling on inside handle is different from the working door. The working one would pull further and click. The non working one would pull half and stop.

That dam locking bar and window rail made me quit for the night before getting the mechanism housing back in the door. I really hope this fixes my problem or I’m going to set the whole dam thing on fires… My issue is the the door keeps trying to open while driving and I’ve seen some videos where replacing the locking mechanism fixes it. If not the. Next is the wiring in the slide track

Going to attempt this myself but I have a couple of questions. My 2016 Caravan has auto locks but not auto open/close(manual only). Is this still the problem? Locks not working at all, won’t slide at all. Door won’t open at all. Is there a possibility it’s a fuse? (That’s wishful thinking.).

Why make the reinstallation of the assembly back into the door seem so perversely simple??... It's by far the most challenging and frustrating part of the entire process, it took me so long, that I had to come back to it the next day, and finally spoke to a mechanic friend and he agreed and advised that he literally had to remove the sliding door to make the installation more efficient.
