Using the Onefinity CNC to machine its own spoil board. Featuring dovetail tracks for work holding. This was my first-ever CNC project, and first attempt at CAM programming.

Some spoil boards are just too nice to mess up in CNC work. Brilliant design & execution for your 1st CNC job on this machine

Onefinity needs to hire you. You have some great ideas! This seems to me to be the best idea for a spoil board. Keeps the cost down on the spoil board

Hey, Thanks. I think if you start cutting harder metals, you’ll want a better clamping system, but for the projects I’ve been doing, the dovetail tracks have been working fine.

Very nice job. This will be a useful spoil board with the dovetail grooves. It’s nice to see your equipment in operation as well. This video is a testament to the quality of the tool. I couldn’t see what router you are using. Does it accept 1/2” shank bits? Did you attach a different collet? I hope to see more video demonstrations from you. Thank you for sharing. 👍🏻

@Kevin M - Thanks for the video. Great design. Would you consider sharing the gcode? I opened the .obj file in F360. It says v5 and I noticed the one you demo'd was v6. I am considering laying one out in Vectric's Aspire program but am mainly interested in the outfeed and infeed settings for the dovetail bit. If you don't feel comfortable sharing the gcode, I understand. I, too, have a 1F Woodworker (just got it) but I am not new to CNC machining. I am an IT Professional so I guess I am a geek-woodworker, as labels go.

Have you had any issues the the dovetail breaking lose. I use the micro-jig dovetail system on my workbench, have had no issues. Just wondering with the downward pressure of the clamps, any break outs of joints thanks

You have a new sub Kevin. Very nice production all around. I'll have to check your other videos to see if anything there but what spindle is that? I have a couple month wait yet for my machine but that looks like the way to go. Haven't heard of Thingiverse before, looks interesting. Is that file for the board compatible with anything other than Fusion 360? Thanks and will be checking out the rest of your channel

Thanks. Spindle is the 800w huanyang. It seems to work well enough for my use, and is a nice quiet option for 110v.

Kevin, you might want to mount your touch screen somewhere else. The magnet they use isnt super strong. My friend already bumped his and it fell off and shattered.

Thanks. I’ve had it since august and it’s been fine so far. I’ve heard of some getting knocked off though, and history shows that Im Pretty good at breaking screens of all kinds! I designed a bumper case to protect it in the event that it’s headed to the floor: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4626909

Thanks for video. I know you said the board is MDF but that material is actually particle board. Do you think particle board is better for this?
@kevinm413
@kevinm413 3 жыл бұрын
Good catch. MDF is the better material for this application, as it is more dense and because it has a more uniform fiber size it machines better. The video is made of me cutting a scrap piece of particleboard I had on hand as a practice run. It came out fine, so I kept it. It has worked okay for a beginner so far!

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I am trying to learn Fusion 360 and it really has a steep learning curve. I should be getting the Onefinity I ordered around Christmas and am trying to figure out what software I will design my projects in. any suggestions on flattening the learning curve on fusion 360?

Hi Kevin, what spindle and water cooling set up have you used? Thanks again
@kevinm413
@kevinm413 3 жыл бұрын
Huanyang 800w spindle/1500w VFD. It runs fine on 120v/15A circuit. The cooling is just a submersible pump in a kitchen storage container. 80%water/20%antifreeze for some corrosion protection. There’s only about 2 gallons total in the system, but at 60deg ambient the spindle can run all day and stays cool.

#283 here,would i be wrong to just use a router table to make the dovetail grooves. I don't know as much as you.
@kevinm413
@kevinm413 3 жыл бұрын
Not at all wrong! That’s probably the ‘standard’ way of doing it. I just thought I’d use the machine to cut out it’s own board. I could send you the g-code program for each operation, but you would need to use the same size bits.
@Jimstacyray1

Sure, but i am thinking using a router table so i can make the board bigger . But the one you have is plenty big . I got til nov 7 and im just now working on my cnc table top.

yes, the controller has options to jog the toolhead, or to manually enter g-code.
