I’m building this! Bought the plans a few months ago, slowly accumulated the parts... and now I’m finishing up this stage - I have a table saw! So far so good... I’m super excited. A tip for those newer than me: the footplate of my Chicago Electric circular saw is not parallel with the blade. It’s off by about 1/64th over about 5”. Difficult to properly square until installing the throatplate(s). Once the throat is cut out, there’s a nice big hole in the top through which you can square the blade itself with the table top instead of squaring the footplate. A simple enough work-around, it just means the throat plate really needs to be done right away if you don’t get lucky with the Harbor Freight gremlins. Also, I would have only drilled 3 temp holes in the foot/top instead of four. No biggie. FInal thought on that... once this is finished, I expect the first thing I’ll want to upgrade is the saw anyway, and most ‘better’ CSaws have proper foot plates. Thanks Sir Tommy! I think this thing is genius, and honestly... I would’ve paid more for the plans. Tyty

I’d love to see a video on starting woodworking, such as, if you had only $300-$500 (or $500-$1000) what tools would you buy as essential. Perhaps taking into account this MicroShop as a first project to beef up what you bought with the starting money. Your tools are of various quality/price so you are the guy to do it. Just a thought since your whole shop isn’t as overwhelming as others with 10s of thousands of dollars in machinery...yet.

Thanks for the suggestion! I might have time later this year to do just such a video. The MicroShop might not be the best place to start though for people starting out...it's definitely not a beginner's project. Either way, it's a great suggestion - thank you!

Thank you! Later on in the video series, you'll see that end up changing the way the saw mounts. At this point, I was just trying to get the saw mounted temporarily so I could move on with the project. I hope this helps - next part coming soon!
@Russwig4 жыл бұрын
I think a better way to attach the saw to the top would be to swap out your cut off screws with counter sunk machine screws and nylok nuts. You can do everything the same way but when you get to where you cut off the excess screws remove them (one at a time) and replace with a #8 or #10 machine screw after you counter sink the hole. This will be much more secure and resistant to vibration.
@OneMinuteWorkbench4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! If you keep watching the series, in a few weeks I should have a video up of the way I permanently attached the saw. What was shown here was just a temporary measure to keep moving forward. I hope this helps!

I didn’t make a video about it, but basically it’s several thousand still photos that were imported into video editing software and each of them times to be just a fraction of a second. There were 2 of us doing to shooting/positioning...it took about 3 hours to shoot and about 3 days to edit. There was some trickery going to with making the pieces go through the saw I’m order for it to be safe. We had to shape the pieces by hand so they wouldn’t catch on the blade. Anyway, I hope this helps!

Maybe it would be a good idea to install the riving knife before you actually start using the table saw? :/ I mean, if you're going to install one later anyway I see no reason not to do it right away.
@OneMinuteWorkbench4 жыл бұрын
One of the goals for this project was to build it without using my existing shop tools like my table saw, drill press, or miter saw. So it's a "chicken vs egg" sort of scenario...you gotta start somewhere.
@MultiKlompen4 жыл бұрын
1:58 why dont you drilling through the frame?
@OneMinuteWorkbench4 жыл бұрын
At that point, I was trying to get good alignment before drilling through the frame. You'll see just a little bit later on in the video where I add alignment blocks, and then add more screws, some of which are through the frame. All that said, these are just temporary anyway....later on in this video series, you'll see where I create the permanent attachments for the saw. I hope this helps!

I really, really love the section "Buy The Plans" in movies DIY on KZbin.. WTH?!?
@JoseSilveira-newhandleforYT4 жыл бұрын
Ignoring the design and prototype build time and effort, just drawing the plans is an enormous task - can't see a reason why it should be given for free. Anyone interested can pick up the ideas and build a similar project without buying the plans - it's not mandatory paint-by-numbers and people can add or change features at will, so this seems to fit all types of viewers. Many times I buy a plan from a YT creator, not because I need it, but because I like the channel and want to contribute - creating content is expensive!
@jorgenlannock4 жыл бұрын
@@JoseSilveira-newhandleforYT well said! I never make plans. Such big amount of time gets in it and makers usually make no plans for theirself, so making plans afterwards is timeconsuming and takes away for new projects. 😁

@@OneMinuteWorkbench , I'm a pragmatic guy! The point is, when you expose a concept in the video, it can be taken without details, such as dimensions, and so anyone adapts that idea. By this I find it a waste of time to think that someone is interested in the plans of a concept, which, let's face it, is often copied and slightly modified to look original. The world of KZbin DIY is divided between those who have a workspace with many tools (which means money), and those who do not have such resources, or are left-handed.
