In addition, when I watching her paint the tiger with the interviewer, I realised that this sort of thing takes incredible patience as much as skill. Maybe not for someone like me, since I am a grumpy old man who has very little patience, which I why I preferred mathematics, because I could get in and do it. One might argue, if one could paint or draw a picture that looks exactly like a photograph, why not just get snapping ? But no - this is better, because one can still see the effort put into it. This is a lesson for anyone, especially other kids, wanting to take this on - do the mahi, and then the rewards will come - no pain, no gain, but to this girl's credit, she enjoys it - if you don't like it, don't do it, but if you love it, that is a bonus.

If it's so like a photograph then take a photograph. We're admiring the immense skill rather than the aesthetic value. True art says much more than a photo.

hyperrealism doesn’t just look like a photo. some hyperrealistic styles do, but most don’t. ive seen so many hyperrealistic styles that could not be done by simply taking a photo. they just have such a clean, lively look to them. artists can change something they like/don’t like in a reference, and make their own stylistic choices. every artist’s technique is different, resulting in different outcomes. ive seen a bunch of hyperrealistic artists using the same reference photo, yet each outcome is different and unique to the artist. it can be hard for non-artists, to understand, but hyperrealism isn’t just one style. there are so many styles within hyperrealism. it’s not just an exact replica of a photo, but capturing a moment in life with the artist’s own twist. even a style like hyperrealism can be abstract

Brilliant ! My late brother in law could do it like that - he used pastels, but also had the same sort of expensive coloured pencils that Isabella has here. Some will use certain techniques and smear it across to blend the colours. I also saw the one on the girl who was compared to Jackson Pollock, and indeed, whatever one does, if they are happy doing it that way, to each their own. I personally do prefer to see someone that takes time over the work, like they have studied how to do it, and put in the effort. This is not to disparage what others do, and in the end, the artwork speaks for itself. In 1979 we were in Mr Blackett's art class at Chisnalwood Intermediate in Christchurch, and he was the first one to teach us about M.C. Escher, for they said he could do art like that - as it was a photograph. Unfortunately,, Mr Escher died seven years before that when I was two, so I did not know him. I am not an artist myself, yet my late brother in law tried to encourage me into it, and he meant well, but I said to him, We each have our speciality - his was drawing pictures - he was more into pencil or ink on paper, then coloured pencils and pastels, but not oils or painting. I did a bit, but my expertise was more with letters and numbers, especially maths, and it is good to do what You are good at, and enjoy it - so I trust this young lady will do so, and be successful with it, since this hyperrealism is impressive - kia kaha !
