It's tradition on ANZAC day for veterans to get together to raise a beer in a toast to their mates who didn't come home. That's why the pubs are open early. They go to the dawn service first to pay their respects to the fallen, then raise a toast to them at the pub afterwards.

Hi. I'm from Melbourne and I liked your enthusiasm for the place i call home. I've always thought it was a special place, so to have that re-affirmed made me proud. I also like that you didnt focus on the glitzy stuff and sat in parks walked around, and just chilled out. It was an easy watch and you felt like friends.

Fabulous to see you discovered Pellegrini's, one of my fav places and it is true about the 1st espresso machine in Aus. Also, the 1st pizza place in Aus was in Lygon Street, Carlton, our little Italy. I have lived in Melbourne for 42 years and originally from Queensland (yep, I'm an old bugga) and Queensland is totally different to Melb and Syd. Make sure you go to Healesville Sanctuary, part of Melbourne Zoo but north east of Melbourne in the 'bush'. The best place to see Australian animals up close and personal. Love watching your channel.

Very much enjoying your videos guys. You may have already left Melbourne by now, but given that your penguin experience at Philip Island didn’t really work out, do you know that you can see Little Penguins ( they are no longer called Fairy penguins) if you jump on the 96 tram to St Kilda (25 minutes). I’m a local here, but I am still super impressed that you can see these beautiful creatures against a backdrop of the city skyline. You may also see a Rakali, a native Australian water rat, that has a fleshy white tip on the end of the tail like a Ringtail possum. You will also be able to see Luna Park, with the world’s oldest still operating roller coaster and, perhaps, sample some cakes from the remaining cake shops in Acland Street which were established by Eastern Europeans in the 1930’s and 1940’s. I trust that you will continue to enjoy your travels up the east coast.

LOL, Great video again! I'm SO glad you guys made the effort to get up with all of us who went to a dawn service. They happen all over the country and are amazing. I think our one at Cronulla had even more people than it did last year! and the number of children and kids seems to be growing each year too! It is a very special day, on which a few things special things happen only on that day. You know it's a special time/day when you're standing with thousands of others in the pouring rain and no one is going home! I hope you guys are having a great trip back home to see family. I'm so looking forward to your trip north when you get back and making your way up to Sydney. It's my city and I hope you like it too. Don't forget to look me up on here and I'll help you get about and see many of the sights Sydney and even my home town have to offer (as I did for "Rob Reacts" last year - I took them to the Blue Mountains and Many Beach). Anyway, Safe travels! 💒 🔔

Probably too hard for tourists, but the best way to observe Anzac Day is to go to one of the services in a suburb or country town. We go to the one in our own suburb. There's a short march, with a service in traditional form to follow. It's much smaller and more personal than the main marches in the city, somehow more moving.

ANZAC day is the one day each year when the game of two up is legal. At least in NSW, I can’t say about the other states. Go to any pub on ANZAC day and you’re likely to encounter a rowdy two up game. The dawn service and parade afterwards is to be found in every city and town across Australia and New Zealand. The dawn service in Newcastle is at the spectacular location of Nobbys beach with the sun rising over the ocean. It concludes with the firing of the six inch guns at Fort Scratchley above Nobbys Beach. The attendance this year was estimated at around 45 ~ 50 thousand.

My heart broke a little when you had a barrito. When you are back in Melbourne (or Sydney) find a Vietnamese Roll. Lots of migrants came to Oz in the late 70's and brought with them French Backed rolls stuffed with lots of meats and salads and condiments that ooze. What makes them extra special is the fresh chillies and coriander... sooooo good. As a white kid growing up in the outer-suburbs of Melb there was a lot of fear of Vietnamese culture from my peers (ie. racism). But experiences like eating my first V-Roll was a defining moment for me breaking through those prejudices.

Tired? Then you'll have an appreciation for the old(er) veterans who get up in the very early hours of the morning to attend the ANZAC Day Memorial Service and March, many journeying in from the countryside. The reason why pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants etc. are open is also for the reunions of various veteran groups and their families that take place as well as the general public. My spouse was one of the many who walked in the March. He held a board with a photo of his father and his father's medals. Looking forward to more videos from you when you return to Oz. Enjoy your time with family and friends back in the USA.

When you guys are back in Melbourne, try to get to Crown Casino at night on the hour (each hour after dark until midnight) to watch the synchronized flames on the hour bur only for a couple of minutes (they use a LOT of gas). The best vantage spot is the King Street bridge. 🙂

I’ve stayed at crown twice. Once with hubby for anniversary, once I just took my 2 youngest for fun. We all loved watching the flames at night from our room up high. My daughter didn’t sleep in her bed, moved the comfy arm chair and ottoman right by the window to watch the flames lol

Have a safe trip home, guys. Would love to see a bit of Tia's "best man" speech...everything she does is a bit of hoot. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to when you return.

love that you got to experience anzac day. not sure of the timing of your return - whether you have been and gone again - but get yourself to a brunetti’s for coffee and cake.
