6/8 gb ram doesen't increase the speed of the device...the ram capacity increase background active apps on the long time usage. Btw is the stg capacity the big difference that influence your choice. The 6 gb ram have the only 64 gb storage. Today smartphones record 4k videos and 16+ mp photos. This means you have 5+ megabyte for each photo and like 1 gb 4k video for 2 mints of video length. Have only 64 gb for apps, media, camera and have no way to add extra stg with micro sd..make you to choose the 128 gb with 8 gb ram as the best buy. This is my opinion.

@braveheart13206 жыл бұрын
I'm sure most people chose the 8GB for the increased storage, whether it's 128 or 256, due to the lack of expandable storage. The 8GB of RAM is likely for future proofing and a bit of marketing for the people who really don't understand RAM.

Seriously? A "speed test"? You're either not the brightest bulb or are intentionally misleading whomever would look to you for valid information. With no apps running in the background and then even with all of the simple apps/tasks you open the extra RAM won't come into play. Tell ya what, open Spotify and download 500 songs while watching a HD KZbin video, surfing the web, and playing a game. THATS when you will see a "speed" difference which is still an idiotic statement.

RAM isn't designed to make you run faster unless you're struggling on loading more applications and your RAM is already filled up. More RAM gives you the ability to have more apps running without slow down. The differences in speed was more about the CPU dye and silicon manufacturing process. You can have 2 exact CPUs and they will perform near identical but still have some differences in speed... Nothing really noticeable.
@masterofdisaster31286 жыл бұрын
Faster RAM writes the data faster in the RAM storage. That's why app startings can slow down caused by slow RAM.
@chrgeorgeson6 жыл бұрын

Looks like the 8GB variant was the right choice since Oxygen OS just introduced Smart Boost Mode; allowing for that extra RAM to be utilized at cold app startups. Approx 20% faster launch up of cold apps. Edit: For those curious... it stores frequently launched or heavy cold app (an app that is not loaded into RAM yet) data into RAM even when not executed. Normally, you’d have to launch an app manually or at start up. When it comes to manually launching apps, the data is stored on flash or an SD card, handled by the processor and loaded onto RAM for active execution and standby of the app when multitasking. Allowing for much, much faster performance when actively using the app and switching back to the app. Normally more RAM just means you can have more running/stand by processes running at the same time. So you can switch between them quickly. Once your RAM fills up, the OS sends an pkill to the kernel to end some programs and free up RAM as you need it. Of course, 8GB of RAM means you can have less apps being killed as you launch up more and more. But with this new feature, it sounds like it’ll store important app startup data either at OS startup or randomly at some point after boot. Meaning some apps will launch faster. This shouldn’t effect the resume times though. But it’s sick that OnePlus is actually utilizing the extra capacity. Hopefully they allow for manual control of what can be stored in RAM for this new feature.
@WaiGee_6 жыл бұрын
the increase of ram doesnt make the phone faster per se, it just means it needs to reload fewer things so you can tab out of more apps and when you re-open them you wont have to load it, its just there ready to go. Few people really need 8GB of ram, i'd say only for video editing and photo editing and/or you want the extra 64gb of space. Otherwise you can skip it and get the 6gb/64 version
@WaiGee_6 жыл бұрын
Footnote: I forgot to mention that the OnePlus 6 has a split screen mode, what im guessing is that the extra ram should allow for a smoother experience in split screen. How much it matters if it even matters is beyond me because i dont own two copies of the phone to test it.

@KellicTiger6 жыл бұрын
There is no practical difference between 6GB and 8GB. If OP made a 4GB version there would be. But ultimately more RAM keeps your phone running more efficiently without needing to close down apps. Yes yes I know Google says you shouldn't need to do this but since day one on Android (I had a G1 the day it came out.) that has NOT been the case. The only other reason to get 8GB is to future proof the thing as much as possible as the newer the OS the more likely it is that it will eat a larger footprint of RAM for the OS. With Project Trebble its likely the lifespan of a supported handset will be longer as OEM's don't need to dick with Qualcomm's drivers. Google's HAL handles all of that. But ultimately CPU and the SOC's overall bus speed is what is going to give you performance, not RAM.

You do know that RAM does not determine how fast the device is right? Speed of the device mostly depends on the chipset.
@bri_oni6 жыл бұрын
this test is mostly pointless, because all its doing is testing the cpu. if you want to compare speeds you need to do it after you've been using it for a while without powering it off. the extra 2gb isn't going to help anything when both have just been turned on. The 8gb is mostly pointless unless you're gaming, since you can just clear your ram or restart your phone
@masterofdisaster31286 жыл бұрын
