First time I heard this song, it was when I was collecting some things from the home I grew up in, before driving out to my first apartment by the college. As I was driving through my hometown (which has exploded since I was born) passing by all my memories and nostalgic haunts, this song came on the radio. It brought me to tears. It was a perfect coincidence of entities that left it's mark as a climactic life moment. I remember it clearly every time the song comes on, usually the reaction is the same. OneRepublic has managed to bottle the *sound* of memory in this song. The slight foggy echoes to every punctuated notes makes every beat feeling like a passing glimpse into your childhood. It's intimate, grandiose, and bittersweet, and the bass reaches deep inside you as the tempo encourages you to look on these things fondly- as you continue to move on from them, never able to return except in abstract. I don't know how the general music-consuming public looks at OneRepublic, but no matter one's tastes, I think it is undeniable that what they do better than many others today, is the projection of atmosphere and genuine emotion.

You've described it so perfectly, the emotion and *sound* of moving forward and onwards from familiarity, from comfort- onwards into something New. Not yet good or bad, just unexplored. OneRepublic played the same role for me too - listening to them is always an aural time capsule, and that's always too powerful for everyday listening which is why even though I love them to bits I can't bear to listen to them on the regular. Another song that evokes the same feelings( for me personally) is We're not just Friends by Parks, Squares and Alleys

There are many things in life which can make one sick or die, but those three cannot if one just says "No!" and walks away. Stay in school, be involved with sports/ physical exercise/fitness, learn to play a musical instrument, learn a foreign language, learn a trade or a profession, work hard, save money, get married, have a family, buy a condo or a house, get a dog and a cat, go on vacations, and enjoy a healthy life. so, I want to share something about this song and why it's so important to me. I came to the United States as an international student 6 years ago, no English, no education( at least good enough to go to college ). I always dreamed becoming an Engineer, but that dream was away for me, I was lacking plenty of education for it - English, Math, physics... you name it ( The country where I am from has no good educational programs at school). So, I started learning English and the University of Texas, took me 9 months. Then, I jumped into a community college - Odessa College. At Odessa College, I learned the basics- math, physics, chemistry. I then became a physics and math student assistant to my STEM professors and tutor for classmates and other students. All these things within two years and 4 months. After that, I got a scholarship that covered 95% of my tuition at University- Illinois Institute of Technology. There, I completed my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated after 2 years ( very challenging school). There, I met the love of my life and we moved to New York after graduation- I currently have a job and I am doing my masters online in Software Engineering. About 5 years ago, I heard this song and kept it for the rest of my adventures. It help me to practice English, to study for exams, taking a shower, making me feel better then failures. I was actually listening to this song when I met the love of my life- future wife, now my fiancé. I even listened to this song when I graduated, and so many other times! Best song ever for me, very powerful to keep me going. Thanks OneRepublic!

Funny story: at the start, my high school, would play this with a video explaining about what classes you can choose to go to. I can’t look at it the same way again. Still a great song tho. (Also I’m home schooled now bc that school didn’t do what they were supposed to. I’m a slow learner and I need teachers / parents or friends to help me understand. The teachers didn’t do that. I was so stressed. Then, one teacher stopped emailing me about assignments. He assumed that I knew what to do. I never know what to do. So I got even more stressed. He also half assed the grading process. He made me redo several assignments bc he lost them. He still is a teacher there. But my family told me I should move to home schooling. Best decision of my life so far. I know it’s not the story you wanted to hear but I just wanted to share it with you all)
