I know the manga business is actually majority women (google says 77%), but it's still funny that rolling three one-shots randomly dropped three female authors. My quick maths might be wrong on this, but I think the odds on that were below 50%, so it was less likely than not.

Ohhh yeah that's an interesting observation!!! I'm no expert on magazines but I'd be willing to guess there are a lot more shojou, shounen ai and maybe josei magazines that are mostly oneshot anthologies which might lead to there being lots more female written oneshots!

There's nothing like taking the odds with manga or anime and throwing it all out the window to get something quite remarkable or something out of nightmares

Too right! That's definitely my hope in trying to make this little series! I want to find some cool random stuff (or absolute trash)

I LOVED THIS! One shots are honestly such an interesting part of manga and I wish more of them would get translated officially. Super excited to see you read some Shoujo!

Happy you enjoyed!! And yeah they're a lot of fun to read, I've always admired how people can tell short stories and I'm looking forward to reading a lot of different stuff!

3:57 retcon within 50 pages is crazy lol
@TrentinArt8 ай бұрын
I think its less a retcon and moreso the oneshot trying to do a super dramatic twist ahah

This was a blast from the past! I went through a kick reading 3-4 of Yukino Miyawaki's works back in middle/high school, so I recognized the way she draws faces right away, though I never read this oneshot. I wouldn't say she has the best art or storytelling, but her works are definitely easy to get into for new manga fans and the CW-level drama is a good hook for middle school girls, which I guess is the point!

Ohh interesting to hear from someone familiar with their work!

Seeing the title brought to mind the fact that you occasionally see the one-shots of manga that end up in Jump, and how they'll often have either minor or major differences. OumaZoo, for example, gave Shiina the ability to take on his animals' characteristics and had a greater focus on action from the beginning, but in the serialization those both had to be worked up to. Hungry Joker, on the other hand, was completely unrecognizable aside from the main character's design - the high concept, power system, and even setting were 100% changed, which I think really shot it in the foot from the beginning. I don't know if that's a topic you'd get much mileage out of, but it's an interesting experience I've had a number of times now.

It'll be interesting if any from Jump pop up since I tend to not mention them too much in the Axe Files vids so I can concentrate on the main series. I'd compare them a bit if I rolled them for this though!

I really like the video format. One shots like Goodbye Eri or the Toriyama One shots would be fun to highlight as well

They'd definitely up the runtime of the videos since they're a lot longer haha

This is a fun idea for videos! What luck you rolled an Arakawa one shot first video.

yay new trentin vid! Is this gonna be a new series???? It reminds me a lot of what Lextorias has been doing with anime..
@TrentinArt8 ай бұрын
Yes! I'd like to do these now and again to mix up what manga I talk about! I'm aware of Lextorias's vids but theyre actually more inspired by Sean Seansons Random PS1 game videos!
