Hopefully you do this same arc-by-arc recap with other huge manga like One Piece and Slam Dunk

I loved this video and how you took such a thoughtful approach to manga analysis and demographics! Ooku: The Inner Chambers and Mr. Paper Bag is in Love are both some of my favorites, so I was happy to see them on here. A couple of shoujo recs I'd suggest for anyone looking more into what the demographic offers are *Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty* (a fairly short supernatural drama, anyone who's a fan of Fruits Basket should definitely give it a look), *Natsume's Book of Friends* (a supernatural iyashikei that's very heartwarming and relaxing), *Usotoki Rhetoric* (a charming historical mystery series), and Furare Girl (which is a bit unique for its use of ecchi-style comedy in a shoujo manga).

Yup this was the current main franchise at the time so nothing really for you here if you already love Gundam. I thought mentioning the weirder smaller side stuff might be kinda redundant

I actually really like how weird and meta the ending was. It was at the very least more unique than the typical axed ending you would see in most cancelled manga. It also gives me the impression that Kawaguchi is willing to get experimental. It’s been a while since he’s done anything but I do hope he returns for a new serialization one day.
@TrentinArt8 сағат бұрын
For sure, it's ending was very memorable and It's a shame those ideas weren't tackled further due to the Axe. Really hope to see him back in the future since the other small things I've seen from them have been great!

Do not put off Turn A!!! It is easily Tomino's magnum opus. I think watching it last is the most damaging advice that people give for such a good show. Knowing that a Borjarnon is actually a Zaku, the Shining Finger (which is only done once) is a reference to G Gundam, or that the GX shows up for 0.05 seconds doesnt make you appreciate the show more. Most people can barely make it through 1 series, let alone all of them just to watch Turn A. Its not just a good Gundam anime, its a good anime in general that doesnt deserve to be slept on as much as it is. If anything, Build Fighters requires much more series knowledge to appreciate but no one ever recommends that to be viewed last.
@TrentinArt2 күн бұрын
I've gone through it now, I probbably wouldn't say save it till last but you definitely get more out of it after watching a lot of gundam and that's not just referential. It's thematic, it's narrative feels purpose built to comment on Gundam as a whole just like Unicorn to me so watching a few series first would give you more to chew on imo

About p6. I have heard for certain series that goes long like 50+ chapters, they get a axe notice 6 months ahead. So when the mother died, at that point he got the notice that he has to end the manga on a certain issue. P6 was one of mt fav, truly unique.. unique in a way that it could be an amazing series in history
@TrentinArt6 күн бұрын
Hmmm I've never heard that before tbh so I'd take it with a pinch of salt. Really glad so many people love it though, it's a fascinating jump manga for sure!

Tbf I think Sanjis main gag is a huge detriment to his character and the series overall and I would also complain about it a ton 😅

This is a very good series, but it’s frustrating how often you feel compelled to pick apart the moral content of the material you cover through the framing of “holding up.” It’s just a way of approaching art under a historical perspective that I fundamentally find useless. You’re weighing something intrinsic to a unique nation with their own sensibilities against the hyper specific standards of your time, place, and culture-rather than taking it all on its own terms and context. In a century these notions of what is or isn’t “dated” will ultimately wash away and all we’ll be left with is the art. I get informing people curious of what may potentially make them uncomfortable in a series, but as actual criticism it’s not very compelling.
@TrentinArt9 күн бұрын
Valid point, though I still feel compelled too. Some stuff just isn't nice to read and I feel that warning is warranted for folks who can't deal with that sort of thing. Sometimes stuff is more nuanced than just critiqing and exploring art, I value how I and others may feel too.
@WhatsUpFella9 күн бұрын
@ Thank you for replying. I think you generally are doing an excellent job with this and honestly I think it’s totally fine to acknowledge some “dated” elements of these series as a consideration of others feeling. It’s just something that became so apparent going through these videos that I felt compelled to point out where I think it can take away from the function of this as a detailed historical document. I just finished the next video and your handling of Dragon Ball and Toriyama’s passing was beautiful. So I’ll definitely be sticking around. You got a subscriber out of me lol.

Lol I didn't expect that 15:23. 16:48 Oh you make an interesting point, in the last interview about Yoshihiro Togashi's work, he created this character based on different readings and cultural trends at the debut. Maybe he keeps an idea about Hibari. Lol magic trick 19:14. I like this opening 34:11 Video Girl can have huge impact on an era. Homeless is grind to the top, many guys (I've inclue grils also). Some many person still on web and get some friends, and relationnship, affection. That a great work by the author, when he've wrote this manga in era, is touching a big problem on Japan. Now, that problem drove all over world, for best or the worst. I didn't mentioned all media, what about. 49:00 Thx I made a mistake in making this time at a specific place, when I talk with my friends. It's an classic 52:07

Yuji being in the corner of all those later issues feels very “Ariana what are you doing here?” Lol. This was fun! I never really looked at the covers much beyond an initial “oh cool” so it was fun seeing you take an artistic lens to them. I agree that the group karaoke cover, the JJK Anni cover and the Godoy one are really good. Would love to see you cover the 2024 covers, I looked at them again and there’s some really cool ones! (The Dragon/Dance crew covers are fun, some solid ones for new series like Astro Royale and Ichi, and nice final ones for MHA and YozaFam, though the latter MIGHT get one more depending.)

Rokudenashi Blues managed to stay as one of the best-selling manga without an anime adaption. Jojo, despite his influence, was niche and sold in much smaller numbers. Blues, on the other hand, was up there behind DB and SD in sales, and it wasn't until is anime came out that YYH overtook it in sales.

Video Girl AI is one of the those series that JP fans still remember and want a full adaption of. I'm surprised it never got a full adaption and just a couple eps. The OVA seems to end in a way that makes the message more anti-escapism.
@crzyboy19011 күн бұрын
I expected Dai's newer adaption to make the series go mainstream in the U.S., but it just never grabbed fans' attention. Plus, there was a little bitching about more DBS lol.

Ippo is definitely top 10 manga i've ever read. It has everything: Action, Comedy, Romance, Drama... The way that we see Ippo and friends get older is so cool, i can't even believe Ippo started off as a high-schooler. There has passed at least 5 years and no time skips, just 1400 chapters as we follow Ippo's life and growth. I'm honestly so invested in these characters i cry every ten chapters or so lol.

Mixed Vegetables by Ayumi Komura is a fun little romance series where a girl from a pastry shop family wants to go into the sushi business so decides to make a classmate fall in love with her so she can take over his families sushi restaurant (when the guy wants to bake cakes for a career). its reminiscent of Kaguya-sama Love is War
