This is just a theory, but to moons think that it’s called ‘Lit’ because it is the after tense of light. This is the end of the Light era. I didn’t come up with this theory, I saw it floating around to moon Twitter..
@wiktoriaj43295 жыл бұрын
Yeah because it would make the most sense as the reason behind the title - the reason being that throughout their MVs ONEUS have been traveling back in time. Valkyrie would be the representation of the futuristic modern times we're in now, Twilight would represent the european middle ages when they believed in the supernatural's existence (witches, werewolves, vampires etc), and then there's LIT which is like a representation of possibly the korean Joseon dynasty. The reason why it could be the Joseon dynasty is because in the teasers, Leedo and Ravn were the only ones to sit on the throne - and even though I'm not sure HOW many To Moon (and potential newmoons) know this, but King Sejong the Great's real name was Leedo - which as we know, Leedo was one of the members who sat on the throne (even at the end of the actual mv). Ravn's case is a bit interesting, as during the Joseon dynasty there was also another king whose name was Yeongjo - being closely similiar to Ravn's real name - Youngjo. That's a pretty interesting thing I learnt from some twitter moonies! Anyways, back to the reason why To Moon twt speculates the title is LIT - if you look at their debut album - LIGHT US - it uses the infinitive form of the verb ''to light''. And the conjugation for the verb ''to light'' is; (infinitive) to light -> (present) lights -> (past tense) lit -> (past perfect) has lit

@@wiktoriaj4329 There was a clip of ONEUS talking about their real names relating to really influential people of the past and present. That's why they considered calling themselves KING KING as a band name for a short while before ONEUS was considered. That's how To Moons made that connection. xD

I'm not even Korean, but the fact that they incorporated so many traditional elements in both the song and the MV makes me emotional, just because that's how I feel when I see artists from my own culture mixing pop music with traditional elements. It's such a beautiful thing that celebrates our uniqueness and sense of belonging to a group, while also bringing people together at the same time. It's heartwarming and brings pride to the people from that culture while also being relatable for foreign listeners through common sounds that everyone around the world knows. It's simply amazing, stuff like this makes me incredibly excited and I wish more pop artists, from all cultures, would do this kind of stuff more often. Hopefully this song becomes a hit. I love ONEUS, I've been supporting them since their debut, and they managed to exceed any expectations I had for them with this comeback. Great idea, great execution, positive energy, cultural celebration... it's art.

Honestly, Oneus has floored me from day 1! Their videos are stunning! I am absolutely in love with this MV and song. It is so beautiful and fun. I am a super big fan of MVs where K-pop groups use more traditional aspects visually and instrumentally. The first time I saw it done was with VIXX in Shangri La. And personally, I LIVE for traditionally beautiful Asian entertainment. On another note, David you are adorable and there was a moment around 4.22 where you looked like you fully fell in love! In regards to the title: isnt the official title both "Lit" and "가자" ?? I assume they chose to add 'lit' because- 1) they have their whole 'light us' trilogy and the past tense of 'light' is 'lit' so it's a fun English pun. (Like Valkyrie/ 밝히리 was a fun English/Korean pun) And 2) also to just appeal to a western English speaking audience that may not be familiar with hangul or Korean culture. But yeah, as a fan, I think most of us just think of it as 가자. Also thanks for this reaction, David!! As someone who has only scratched the surface of understanding Korean culture, i feel as though I can't fully understand and appreciate the depth or magnitude of this MV/song even though I do enjoy it!! But to see how excited you got about it, it really warms my heart and I feel like it helps me appreciate the MV/song even more through seeing your reaction.Does that makes sense?? K-Pop music videos that center around traditional Korean arts are visually and acustically very intriguing and I wish there were more. BTS' Idol stage at the MMAs 2018 is my favorite stage, and I loved Vixx' Shangri La. Perhaps some MVs are just not so well known...(?) There is Arario by ToppDogg that dates back to 2014, but it seems most MVs are pretty recent... I can't think of any MVs done by girlgroups right now., unfortunately. (If anyone knows any, please let me know. 🙏) Maybe it is more common for stages than MVs to include traditional instruments and themes? Recently, there was the Destiny performance by Oh My Girl in Queendom and Mamamoo represented different Joseon characters for their fanmeeting. And while mentioning stages, it is impossible to leave out Ddaeng which was just amazing. :) Also, from (just) the instrumental side: the use of the Taepyungso in Sunmis Lalalay song is magnificiently wonderful as it enriches the song so much! Looking forward to your Explained video for the ONEUS one! :)

I actually really like that they made the English title "Lit" because from a foreign perspective, yes the song is heavily influenced by Korean culture, but they are also appealing to that universal party feeling that everyone around the world can relate to. They are drawing everyone from all backgrounds in to join them in the party of their performance with the title and then showing off their roots, giving us a powerful taste of their culture. I don't think the effect would have been the same if they only used the Korean title.
