I take my longest trip ever on day 3 of owning my Onewheel+ XR where I learn about "speed wobble" the hard way. I also talk about foot fatigue and I even get the chance to practice and share with you the art of falling off a Onewheel!

Bruh I'm so sad. I got my pint X the other day, and immediately had one of the worst crashes you can have. All this, despite preparing myself, and having the perception I was "respecting" it. I kept it on Redwood, was staying under 10, and was getting a feel for carving while going 6-8. It was incredibly squirrely, and threw me right off. Fractured tibial plateau, and fractured my hip as a 26 year old. Just had surgery. I really don't know if I can get back on in 6 months, but was having so much fun...

Okay nerds I'm going to break down the speed wobbles, proper foot attire, and your sore feet for you. Speed wobbles pertain to every type of board sport on a solid surface/semi solid surface (snow), and in some cases bicycles. It all has to do with misalignment, so if a bike has misaligned components, the dude in way to tight of clothing can get the death wobbles and bites it. For boarders it has to do with the alignment of the person, their weight is not properly position over the board, in other words... "You're not keeping your center". Imagine a line going through the center of your body, maintain that line, if that weight goes too far one way, the board follows the direction of applied weight or pressure . At that point you course correct/over correct, which might be small, but non the less it's over correcting, creating a pattern in movement in the board that leads you to be out of control. Practice making your center stronger, get a balance board to teach you that, such as an "Indo Board". Next you will never see a skater wearing Nike's, they wear flat unsupported skater shoes like DC's, because flat shoes allow for quicker responses. If cushioned soles mattered you would see surfers wearing them. If that isn't good enough for you, go checkout snowboard boots in a snowboard shop, particularly the one that require ratchet strap bindings. Finally, your feet hurt because they are weak You're using muscles that you don't normally use. Don't believe me, and think it's your shoes, then take a couple of Yoga classes. Then come back and tell me it's the shoes.

I second everything Jay said, and shoes make a huge difference. I tried my running shoes, adidas allstars (like a skate shoe) and my Supra high tops. I was fatigued after riding 2 miles with the running shoes, the next day I rode over 12 miles with the allstars on and wasn't fatigued until the very end. The high tops yielded an even better result as they provide a slight bit of ankle support, while still keeping your feet flat to the board and sturdy.

Bend your knees!!! That is why you are feeling so much 'wobble'. Think of your legs as shocks. Bend your knees and you'll absorb bumps a LOT more. Watch videos of people who do hard trail riding and look at how much they bend their knees.

I had a fall recently and it was one of those situations where you realize your going to fall and you can’t do anything about it. I tried to slow down but at 18mph and wobbling out of control, that’s it. The funny thing is I went through every “stage of grief”before I actually fell and I was ready and I just ran. I can’t run 18mph so I was down but I could slow my self a good amount. That was the fastest I’ve ever ran now than I’m thinking of it.

Heyo, I'm riding my XR for a good 2 weeks now. I have a long history with skateboards/waveboards/windsurfing so I felt right at home with it. Usually I completely ignore pushback, it is no problem for me and cruise my city with 25-30km/h (16-19mph). I think you totally get used to riding nose up once you try. BUT WEAR SAFETY GEAR! Seriously you are completely right, wristguards and Helmet can save your life. In case this is still a thing: the wobble is mainly because your ankels exhaust. Obviously riding helps train them. And repositioning your feet while riding as well as bending your knees should help a lot. Slowing down and/or taking a break should never be frowned upon either! In my City (in Northern Germany) there is a lot of cobblestone pavement that reeaally exhausts you fast because of its uneven surface. Just lower your point of gravity and go low and bend the knees, dont ride faster than you are comfortable and you are good! One small thing I noticed about your riding (from a month ago *cough*(maybe it changed)) is that you need flat bottom shoes with NO cushion AT ALL and around 15:00 in the vid your back foot is way off the footpad. I like to have my feet fairly centered. I noticed if I turn left I mostly use my front foot and to turn right I use my back foot a tiny bit too. If anyone is interested I can make some vids of me riding! Float on my friends! (Collect my language errors and keep them, thanx ;D)

This, 100%. When your ankles get tired, you can feel the muscles get slow to respond and even sometimes shudder or shake a little. That's a sign you need to give yourself a rest. I ignored that today and hit a really bad wobble and flew right off my board for the first time ever. Glad I had those wrist guards on; wear your safety gear, folks!

Great video friend! I've been riding eboards for 3 years now and i'm a huge skier since my early teens so I've really developed substancial cafes, adding in the board weight of 30 plus pounds it really takes a lot of effort on just a 3 mile roll. I absolutely had no idea and it still surprises me after 1 month of having The OneWheel.. Ride safe expect falls and hopefully you'll all overcome those huge learning curves, especially when you will eat it hard!

Being an experienced snowboarder has help me quite a bit as a beginner on a onewheel. Therefore, when my speed wobbles came up early on, I was able to ride out of them by loosening up my legs and feet with most of the tension, if any, was in my lower calves which i used to direct myself. I would also position my weight over my back hip rather than simply lean back. Apart from that, be willing to tip your feet at your ankles in an effort to keep them flat on the board at all time. So again, Stay loose Use your lower calves to direct yourself Position your weight over your back hip Tip your feet as needed to keep them on the board as best you can

Nice vid! I am a beginner too on a OW+. I've never done boardsports and I agree it's a steep learning curve but a lot of fun so far. I have had mine for about a week now, riding it a couple of charges every day. Still riding slowly, not above 15 km/h, so I have a fair chance of bailing and running it off. :) I too get those wobbles, more so after prolonged riding. I guess it's due to my inexperience and riding a bit tense in the feet. I get foot fatigue after a mile or so on gravel or bumpy terrain. Hopefully I will be less tense as I get more experience. Keep it up, I know I will! :) Subbed! :)

Totally agree that OW is not made for speed. Amazed to see so many riders chasing speed. That means more risk of falling, and worse crashes. For me the challenge is in the precision on small hills, trails etc. No need for speed - it will always be slow anyway compared to many other fun sports.

Hello, I am on day 3 of my onewheel XR, I also have been a bit worried and confused at what to do with wobble that happens a bit at speed, I have a history of skateboarding and snowboarding. Thanks so much for the video. I have been doing really well, I have taken 3 bad falls, 1 on each day, which nocks my confidence for a while. I think I may be taking it too hard before my muscle memory has been built for the board. I have been 20mph on the board and it is very fast for concrete. The falls tend to happen so quickly and so randomly that I end up smashing my hand and knee into the ground. Before I role. Each time i’ve gotten up straight away and got back on the board, that is natural to me with skateboarding, but I’m used to bailing differently on a skateboard. What PSI do you run in the tyre? Thanks for the video and good helpful information, you have helped me.

I have a one wheel that I rode for 800 miles in the first year that I had it. And, yes, I am familiar with the wobble tendency. However, as it is unnerving and dangerous, I experimented to see what could be done to reduce the wobble tendency. I completely solved it by experimenting with different air pressure in the wheel. I found that, when the pressure was somewhat low, there was a slight delay in response to my movements to steer and control the wheel and that contributed to experiencing a wobble effect. You don't want to make the wheel too hard. Check the pressure in the wheel and raise the pressure just a couple of pounds at a time until you find that you are getting an immediate steering response without the wobble tendency.

I had my first two spills yesterday and today. 1st one was a hard front-side left turn (I ride goofy) with a poor & uneven surface, plus legs too straight. Executed a near perfect shoulder roll and ended on my helmet and toes. Today was just too much speed & uneven surface with zero warm up. I'm only in my second week of riding, and foot fatigue, shin fatigue are taking their toll. Did my first trail rides with an experienced rider. Came off the deck a couple times, had to carry over some heavily laden root sections.

I've had an electric longboard for 3 months and can vouch for speed wobbles and your feet hurting, I'm hoping once I get a OW my feet will be more used to the corrections they need to make.

At 15:40 you switch from right foot in front to left foot in front. That is what I noticed giving me better control. If you go back 15 seconds you see since your right foot is in front you are going slower. I think your mind is telling you that you are going backwards, so you go slower and feel the foot fatigue more.

"Fatigue Feet" (that's what I'm calling it): To help work those feet muscles that get sore - Workout. At home, hop on it and be stationary for 10-15 mins at a time and repeat. IF you get too efficient at it, do stuff to distract your balance, like watching onewheel videos on youtube =P .

About how long did it take for the wobble to fade? I am on day two, 12 miles in, and I am getting the occasional wobble. I just slow down when I feel it, but I am curious about how long it took your ankles to get trained. Love your videos, btw.

Leg wobble happens when your weight isn’t committed to one edge, you wobble because your weight is shift not from heel to toe. Also it can be from uneven ground, which you just have to hold your edges more to stay smooth. Bending your knees and squatting down will help you hold balance and add extra edge pressure. Day 3 you won’t learn that kinda stuff yet.

Yeah, if you forget to bend your knees and decide to push it over 20mph you WILL get dumped! This thing kinda has a mind of its own.. Onewheel should have a legit safety program in place for new riders, IMO.
@BlownMacTruck
@BlownMacTruck Жыл бұрын
@@gregdonald9506 You probably figured it out by now, but you have to turn to sit on an edge. The way to do that and go “straight“ is carving - you’re basically constantly transitioning from edge to edge.

hit hard today, how to bail when you have trees on both sides of you without and no other option but to jump backwards and do a split when one foot is still on the board. All i can say is, im glad i had kneepads today, i would have dislocated my knee cap :p

Like snow boarding you’re facing the same way so when you fall you fall the same and you keep injuring the same area over snd over. I feel like this now but now at 50 I heal slower and the memories of being wrecked overtake the go all out thoughts.

Wear a backpack always, one with a bladder for water is recommended as it serves two purposes. 1. hydration ( you can do shit without water so drink it ) 2. protection, I have exploded a full bladder of water on a failed drop before, Likely the amount of energy it took saved my back ( think of it like crumple zones in cars, the energy it takes to rupture it is subtracted from the total energy delivered to YOU ) :) Iva also lost a bladder that I had filled with air as i was doing something risky and was out of water. :) backpack will save a lot, and go with it when you Fail :)

Rip chips, yeah took a nose dive, lucky my summer motorcycle gear doubles as onewheel rider gear, I did strain my muscle on my foot, but once it heals up Imma head back on, I think the wobble may be something you start avoiding with conditioning of constant riding, cause I definitely got it my 1st rides

Not sure why but I was on cruise mode limited speed to 24km/hr but I was still able to push the XR to it’s limits and encounter a nose dive causing significant damage to myself. Why wouldn’t the board stay at the lower speed and not shut down??

I wear protection when i ride. :-) didn't think i needed it ,I'm over 70 so i thought I'd just be careful. So i fell while starting out on my ECU AND the motor shut off and i went down on my hands and knees and i was sure i broke my wrist but just sore and i ordered all the gear that day.

"dress for the slide, not the ride" I would be in the hospital right now if not for the gear i was wearing today. Put a dent in a helmet i purchased 35min earlier. Just because you are geared up doesn't mean you have to take it to the limit. Day 4 for me. Likely 2 ribs broken or cracked a sore wrist hip and shoulder with possible collar bone injury. The sad part, im likely going to ride tomorrow if i dont hurt super bad lol. Don't go max speed up hills and don't expect pushback before a nose dive. We learn, we ride. ICE the wounds.

Those of you who are watching this in 2021 or later: if you are having speed wobbles, bend your knees more and get your center mass lower, you'll have more control and your knees will absorb some of the wobbling.
