Robert from Blue Planet Surf got a Onewheel and we tried it out in the parking lot. It's not as easy as it looks in the marketing videos. Robert gives us a quick breakdown and we review it together.

What if you add a thin brush to the underside close to wheel to try to eliminate pebbles flying up? Thank God they have the XR model out... Outside the technology, it's nothing like a hoverboard...

$1800+tax for the Onewheel and still no safety technology to prevent nosedives? With the digital ride shaping app it would be mandatory that sudden shutdowns at any speed would be non-existent. If the Onewheel is over powering to keep you level, the app should display that, so you can make those adjustments or be aware of a possible shutdown! I'm in my mid 40's / 170 pounds and purchased the XR model and after 100+ miles the Onewheel it suddenly nosed dove and sent me smashing into the pavement. There was no push-back, battery was above 95%, flat surface and cool morning! Ambulance was called, sent to Emergency Room with Dislocated shoulder and fractured arm! I'm currently in Serious pain and no mobility in my left arm! Here's some advice, if you buy this, you better know how to take a crash at any moment, as soon as you get comfortable, you lose! Better hope your health insurance plan is up to date and active you will need it!

Rider error happens. Own it. If you are going at top speeds then expect to have a nose dive. Respecting the power of it is a good start

For a board like this balancing with one wheel making a nosedive “non existent” is just about impossible. The board can tell you to take it easy by “pushing back” but if one keeps pushing the issue it just forcing their weight forward, the nose has nowhere to go but down. If your weight can push the nose down then it can nosedive. Basically the rider has to know the boards limits and accelerate smoothly and accordingly while keeping weight centered and balanced, when the battery power is lower, even smoother movements as the power to keep you balanced reduces , if done so properly the chances of nosediving dramatically reduces. The only way nosedives could be non existent is by having enough power on tap to balance you no matter how much weight you put forward at all times which would mean the board would be capable of going 100 mph which obviously would be unreasonable.. anyway After getting really familiar with the board and it’s boundaries, learning properly, front wheels by like Synergy Wiz and Fangs brings confident back to 100% if involved in a nosedive or two, practice and get used to those and it allows you to push the issue again as well as have some fun with them. If using then without the experience and practice and knowing the limits could get you into trouble in a different way as well as the board can accelerate and keep rolling on the nose... point is just ride smooth and remember it’s not made for fast acceleration and speed or abrupt movements , remember its main purpose is for floating on many different terrain with crazy cool ingenuity and just cruising and you’ll be good to go! I believe Future Motion nailed it as far as having the perfect amount of power to balance an average rider who learned properly to keep centered and balanced while accelerating by tilting nose forward smoothly @ an average speed of 15 mph or so before “push back” starts and of course knowing most would push the top speed plus downhill etc would factor in and five a few mph faster top speeds but still slow enough to keep the board somewhat safe is perfect. Any slower and it would feel too slow once one gets used to it and faster would be creeping up on speeds that one can get severely injured even more so than already is happening so it couldn’t be any more perfect in my opinion.... If one wants to accelerate fast abruptly etc get a Boosted board or the like but if you want to carve around on a bumpy road and imperfect sidewalks plus occasional grass, dirt, gravel & whatever feeling the “floatingL sensation then the One Wheel is unmatched!
