Great trip report! I like the unusual routing from Adelaide to Japan. Interesting flight from Cairns to Tokyo on the MAX as well. Got excited to see the Royal Brunei 787 at 3:34. Used to live in Brunei for a few years in my childhood. Have you tried them yet?

Hi Jayden, I’m not surprised your luggage didn’t make the next flight to Cairns. I’ve learnt through my own experience, that if you have less than 1.5 hours between flights, you have a very slim chance of your luggage making it. As you’re aware, boarding gate closes about 15 min before departure, which usually means final luggage has been loaded 20-30 mins before the boarding gate closes. A few years back I had a cancelled flight from FRA to BKK, as there were heavy storms in FRA that afternoon. So I got diverted to MUC, then onwards to AMS to catch an EVA air flight to BKK. I had a 30 min transit between MUC -AMS, then a 60 min to get from the non Schengen area to international departures at AMS, and barely made the flight.mind you, my baggage did not arrive until the following day after I arrived in BKK. Lastly, I could not handle a flight of more than 5 hours without any IFE, so I don’t know how you or any other passengers would have survived it. I wonder if you would have been better off going with Jetstar in a B787 where you get IFE - even though you have to pay extra for it…
@JaydenWong9 ай бұрын
haha yeah, sadly I had no choice. Adelaide thing. You catch the first flight after curfew which is 6am to the east coast, and you have limited time to catch your next flight. Qantas/oneworld parters are the exact same if you go from Adelaide- Sydney/Melbourne - Asia/USA/NZ/South America Prior to covid, I had never visited the Qantas international lounges in SYD and MEL for that reason, never had time. Recently I went only because I slept the night in Sydney/MEL

OMG JAYDEN, You keep calm and always smiling without your luggage. Transit flights takes so much energie from the passenger and missing your luggage would make me crazy.😅 If the airport logistics strike, then we take mostly handbagage with only the necessary needs. But I can imagine it's not easy if you have to take much more devices. Thanks for sharing. Japanees crew were very engaged and friendly. Great vlog!👌👍🙏

Impressive video Jayden and this Virgin Australia Max 8 needs TV screen and AC plug like a United B737 Max 8 which are equipped with Both. Had Virgin Australia went with that option then it's the proper setup for CNS-HND and also Transcontinental flights PER-SYD/BNE/CNS. 16:37 that might be the runway that JL516 crashed or the runway you're landing in. 19:58 Try the QF A330-303X or A330-203. I wonder what was the return trip

Some are making similar comments here in Europe and the US. As you may know more and more carriers are deploying narrow-bodies on transatlantic routes. But any negative feedback doesn't seem to affected JetBlue's carrying ..maybe because it provides superior onboard service (compared to the big boys).

It's basically aimed at Japanese tourists visiting North Qld, leaving the outbound services basically to 'low yielding'/budget passengers departing out of Australia (Most Australian outbound medium/high yield leisure mainly take the FSCs out of the East Coast capitals)

Another great video Jayden. I especially like the inclusion of hotel and city checks towards the end. I realise VA is downgrading to a hybrid airline but really it ought to offer complimentary catering on an international route of this length and one which serves Japan. Look at JetBlue ...it's a budget operator for US domestic but on the transatlantic it becomes a full service airline (complete with Mint (business) class) and everyone praises the quality of JetBlue's Y catering which is superior to normal airline Y food.
@JaydenWong9 ай бұрын
Hi Alex!! Thanks for watching this one :) When I flew VA to New Zealand last year I was hoping there would be free hot meals but no :/ not even lounge access if you’re in business or got gold/platinum. Definitely nowhere near VS and even Jetblue!

VA are using almost the top end of the maximum range of the 737-8 MAX at MTOW for the CNS-HND route. Whilst on a good, fine day the aircraft could take almost a full load at MTOW, this can change relatively quickly if weather conditions change en-route prior to the scheduled takeoff, which could affect payloads, which for example storms forcecasted mid-route may require the aircraft to take alternative waypoints to get around the weather, thus requiring more fuel

Thank you Jayden for showing me why not to fly Virgin :) Water, Tea and Coffee is all you get on a flight from Melbourne to Cairns, and even worse, Cairns to Japan? FAs walking around with Eftpos machines like beggars does not make for a great experience. We need an airline like Singapore to fly domestically so there is true competition with Qantas. Virgin and Jetstar the budget airlines, Singapore and Qantas the premium service. People can then choose One World or Star Alliance. I don't understand how people think Virgin is a premium airline - they only have 7 Lounges in Australia and charge for food - even on their longer flights! Jetstar PAX have more access to lounges across Australia than even Virgin "Business" passengers do. Anyway, love your videos mate. Keep it up!

Virgin B737 MAX 8 looks actually stunning and pretty comfortable too, but for me it sounds a bit crazy to fly on it for 7hrs. I think they gonna fly daily using this B737 MAX 8 for the Bali routes except SYD. The seat features a lot of things too like the USB port, although some new phones these days don't have the USB cables anymore, and considering that there's only free water, coffee and tea even onboard such a long flight, I would have expect more but I guess that's what Virgin target market is. Do they really get ur missed bag to Tokyo the next day after you get to Narita and how did they manage that? Anyway, the food offering onboard isn't bad either, bunch of cup noodles and there's buy onboard hot meal with 2 choices, for me both meals looks really good, but imo the portion for the chicken rice is quite tiny. I wish VA open their lounge on Cairns knowing that they operate some domestic flight to SYD, MEL, BNE or ADL etc., but for international I think it would be weird as they only have 1 international flight from Cairns. Great videoo Jaydenn👍👍

Hi Jayden Thank you for your vlog. Mind asking if you will be travelling with Starlux in TPE?

no plans at the moment, perhaps in October when they launch HK flights!

Yes, you would think you’re flying on a Scoot or Jetstar flight…
@fghjkas509810 ай бұрын
@@paulsz6194 It's not that bad as Scoot or Jetstar, the pitch is more like 31-32 inches which is average. It's just that the cabin of the plane isn't made to handle a flight that long.

Hi Jayden. That Max 8 loo is really squishy !😮 The plane did seem quieter than an older 737.... although I wonder did you feel safe , considering all the problems the Max 8 have had ? I knew last year the Max 8 was coming to Virgin, but it's safety record still concerns me. Was there a reason that the plane is limited to 70% capacity ? Is it a Max 8 thing, or so that the plane can fly the full distance from Cairns to Japan, on standard size fuel supply for the Max 8. (rather than a 737 long range plane, with bigger fuel payloads)
@JaydenWong10 ай бұрын
Hi Heather, yeah I feel safe. If the pilots are there flying the plane, I'm sure they know what they're doing and they're confident :) For the capacity, I think it's just a bit too long for the 737 MAX, hence the plane needs to be lighter. Qantas 787 to Dallas and London and similar restrictions.

Amazing video Jayden I live in Mackay and was wondering what country would be the cheapest to fly to?
@JaydenWong9 ай бұрын
perhaps NZ or Bali via Brisbane

Moral of the story: fly JQ' 788s if youre from CNS, fly with an Asian full service carrier if youre anywhere else in Australia.

Fantastic video and review! Although Virgin Australia = a budget airline at full service airlines price.
@JaydenWong9 ай бұрын
Thanks! Actually between Japan-Australia, Virgin is pretty much the same price as China Southern via CAN, and both are significantly cheaper than any other carriers!

I just want to point out that the katakana you wrote on the thumbnail is ケアソズ, which is incorrect as the it's a 'so' kana not the 'n' that should be in the 3rd character. ケアンズ would be the right way to write it.
