Once it arrives for sale in the U.K it will no doubt cost around £1200/1300 like the previous versions. Steam Deck is nearly £1000 less for the base model and you also won't have to ship it off to an unreliable Chinese retailer for repair. Absolutely no contest, no matter how much more powerful it may be.

These will be far more popular in regions that Valve doesn’t service, where the Steam Deck is likely to cost nearly the same and support from Valve will be nonexistent regardless

Totally agree. If I had to do it over again I would have got the cheapest steamdeck and stuck one of those new 1TB M.2 2230 drives into it with a 1TB SD card for older games and still would have saved money over this thing. Is suspect one day all these non-valve x86 handhelds will be just running steam OS and Valve won't bother handling the hardware anymore. Edit: I got me a 2TB WD M.2 2230 drive for my steamdeck which is paired with a 1TB SD card for my emulated games. Hall effect sticks as well, it's a sweet lil system now.

This was insightful. I think the controllers not having their own batteries pretty much kills my interest in this thing. A big thing that interested me about it was the detachable controllers. Another thing is if it's going to be a hefty device it needs to be more ergonomic. That's one thing that really makes the Steam Deck work for me - despite how chonky it is, it feels good in my hands.
@Xyspade2 жыл бұрын
They probably had to not put batteries in the controllers in order to not violate Nintendo Switch patents, but it still seems like it comes dangerously close lol. But the controller dock handle thing is a good enough compromise for me. I never quite understood why someone would want to play with a joycon in each hand anyway.
@tattoodrdoke2 жыл бұрын
Detachable controller in this case is a gimmick. It would need to have all the features of the joycom but I can imagine that tech is patented.
@sboinkthelegday38922 жыл бұрын
All these companies, really trying to keep the Wii U dream alive. Without even remembering it's best features. I could consider one of these devices if they were actually innovative and did something new and functional. Like the approach could be one hand holding the main unit, and THAT could attach to either the screen or the other controller or both. Keep the guts all the time in one hand and you don't NEED a cumbersome adapter block, and you can make the other controller more like Joycon, lightweight with gyroscope and all that stuff, maybe a laser pointer. I could use an IR thermometer. Focus on ergonomics in the heavy hand, and use the other as more of a balancing point that can afford to be a little less comfrotable and detachable. And the screen could be easily replaced with a full on TV when you don't want to use the pack-in as a portable console. Maybe hide a full keyboard under the screen that slides on top of it, go for a kind of a sheikah slate design with a nice grabby handle. So you can use that awkward stand in cases where you're typing something, which already needs some settling down. What am I gonna do with this or Steam Deck, carry along an additional keyboard?
@chaodck2 жыл бұрын
I think the battery-less controllers answers to two things, as they said above patents and also due to limiting the weight of the device, with them attached. Regarding the ergonomics, I've seen a few reviews and they say it's a comfortable device, and that it doesn't feel as heavy as it is.

Great balanced review of the device. It is good to hear the pros and cons of a device without to much biased to another product. I know for most people that are involved in these videos and watch them it doesn't matter but one thing that never gets mentioned is the reason these products have a market is because the Steam Deck is still not sold world wide. This product while expensive is really the only option other than a Switch to buy where I live Australia. If Valve would sell the Steam Deck in my country I would jump on it in an instant but right now this device is the only option I really have. Especially for me who has large hands. I find all the other brands too small and uncomfortable to play. My hands go numb after a short play on most devices. I currently have the Ayaneo Next and it's controls are even worse for that hook thumb you mention in the video. From what I can see of the shape the OneXPlayer 2 is going to be a lot more comfortable than the Ayaneo Next. Well I hope it is.

You know how Nintendo is with protecting their stuff, and I've heard stories of other systems that were hit with a cease & desist from them. So I'm not surprised that these controllers can't work on their own when detached. Perhaps making them unusable while detached was a way for them to get around it? The Steam Deck value comes from it's continued software support from Valve vs generic OS layers. I think we will see a continued line of Steam Decks becoming a prominent handheld console in the next 3-5 years as more people switch to PC. This device appears to be running Windows 11, which introduces issues on it's own since Windows is such a resource draw vs Linux based OS. Overall, I think Nintendo is the handheld king with the Switch though. That form factor and weight with the performance it can deliver is pretty outstanding still in my opinion.

Hello, this is very interesting but could you tell me how long the battery lasts when blocking games at 40fps at 25 watt? Can the console land on the dock of the one x player mini pro because nobody talks about it and it's very important? thank you

You should do a let’s play of riders republic. Would love to see your reaction knowing your a huge arcade racer and ssx fan.

I like the design and the performance. However 2hours of playtime is unacceptable for me. And it is so bulky. I can just buy a 15" gamer laptop for this price, and its not much bigger. I know that the switch and the steam deck are successful. But it's a bit too much for me.

I think the laptop comparison is 100% true, especially at the starting $1200 price... however as somebody who travels a lot, there is something to be said to using a handheld on a cramped plane as opposed to a laptop...but still not sure it's worth the $$

Detachable controllers are the future for handheld PCs, now you have a hybrid handheld console, tablet, laptop and desktop PC. I think gpd win 4 is still the best looking device coming soon.

Man I was expecting $500-600, something where maybe you wince but it’s comparable to the competition. $900-1200 is “laughing as you walk out” money.

They added the micro sd card after all? I saw a review a couple of weeks ago & there was no sd card

This thing, Logi Cloud, and the Aya Neo seem to exist purely to demonstrate the high value proposition of the SteamDeck.

At first i used to think a lot like a lot of comenters here about the price of these new handheld gaming PCs. But they are legit full fledged PCs with high end graphics and processors smooshed into a portable so the price does make sense. Also like to mention that I'm not a huge gamer but since a lot of these machenes run windows they double pretty well as a media device.

They are using laptop components in this device (laptop CPU+GPU). That booster button has the same purpose as in gaming laptop to switch between the integrated video chip and the more powerful GPU.

There a whole bunch of Chinese companies pushing out 6800u devices in the future.They are all a bit simulair in price but thats because Valve is large company and they can take a hit selling a cheaper handheld. They make it up on selling software. Those other Chinese handheld manufacturers don't sell software, just the hardware so I understand the price. You should look into the GPD Win 4 perhaps. Its the smallest 6800u device and a tribute to the PSP and Vita. It looks just like one. I love the way it looks. But also, it starts at 800 bucks so its not for everyone.

CPU is certainly more powerful but with the decks hardware adjustable screen refresh you can get 40fps without drop outs unlike other solutions, not to forget this uses that gpu for pushing 4x the pixels, on an 8in screen i don't think it's worth it, and if docked then aren't you just gonna get a laptop? at 30w your looking at LESS than 2 hours battery. At the price just there's no comparison, then again I don't think anything else could be. Deck was custom made by a big firm at priced at a loss almost anything else is always gonna be much more.

@@beezle1976 oh my bad I mistook it for the igpu of the 6600u. Thanks for the correction. I'll edit the comment I think most of the principle stands.

The deck was also made in China. Only designed in the USA.
