I completely agree with you in regards to the trackpads on the Steam Deck. With the pads, it makes menu and desktop navigation a lot easier on the Deck. It also opens up a lot of possibilities for games that heavily use or require a mouse, both in and out of Steam. As an example, something that I frequently do on my Steam Deck is play Flash games on it, and with Steam input, I can easily maps all of the necessary keyboard controls per Flash game on the Deck and use the trackpad for accurate mouse controls.

Though there are still archives of a lot of different Flash games online. One of the bigger ones is BlueMaxima's Flashpoint, which is a program that allows you to download and load Flash games and animations within it, but it might be difficult to install on the Steam Deck from what I've seen.

Steam Deck all the way. SteamOS is the "console" experience that PC gaming needed to break into that market. It doesn't matter how powerful other devices are if the experience of using them is janky at best and and absolute headache at worst. Maybe one day Windows will play nice on form factors like this, but as great as PC gaming is, the reason why console gaming still has such a big draw and market share, is because of it's ease of use. I've been both a PC and console gamer for as long as I can remember, and of course I prefer PC gaming overall, but you can't deny that the console experience makes the barrier to entry for people just way way lower. Don't agree? Tell that to the Nintendo Switch. It's woefully underpowered compared to PC's and hell, even other consoles, but the numbers don't lie. The fact that the Switch is STILL selling both consoles and games as well as it is after all these years is unarguable proof that the "console formula" works. Same for Sony, same for Microsoft. Yes, us PC gamer folk are usually more than capable of doing the necessary tweaking, installing, workarounds, mods, etc. to get a great experience regardless of the hardware, but I just don't think that's who Valve is targeting with the Steam Deck anyway. They are very obviously targeting the PC gamers that want more ways to play, and more importantly, they are targeting the console gamers that are curious/wanting to get into the wonderful world of PC gaming, but don't have the time, money, and experience to get into it. The Steam Deck bridges that gap. Affordable, versatile, boot it up, log in, and boom, you're gaming. Just like a console. In the end, gamers just want to game. So the experience that makes you game the easiest is going to win out.

Is the steamOS with it's simulation of windows games via proton faster than just playing on windows os with the windows bloatware? Bc this will make the difference between buying an ally or a deck
@mgord9518 Жыл бұрын
@@TheUltimateHacker007Depends on the game, but a lot of the time it is faster. WINE (which is one of the bigger parts of Proton) is a complete reimplememtation of common Windows programming interfaces. So it's not really a "simulation" or emulator, it's more a Linux API that just so happens to correspond 1:1 to common Windows APIs. Because it is a reimplementation, certain functions might get the same job done in a different way, which could be faster, slower or less compatible than the "real" Windows API. But yeah, the lack of bloatware along with Linux having much better OpenGL and Java performance can make certain games have far better performance.

The jury's still out, my only discovered preference was for the Onexplayer with the 5800U, the ergonomics and feel in hand appealed to me over the other consoles, it may have to do with it matching the size of my hands versuses the other handhelds. This appears to be a monster of a handhold but with the announcement of the Asus Ally and other 7840U handhelds coming in the near future, this device is too little too late, I don't know if they plan to release a new OXP with the 7840U but if they do, it could make the entire handheld market more interesting. On a desktop, i aktually think you can still create a local account just by unplugging the LAN. At least it worked on mine. It will just give you the option to say "I don't have internet". BUT, if you have wifi built in into your pc, it won't work or you need to unplug/ get the wifi card out for it too work. And why they where so simmilar, you can turn of V-sync. V-sync locks your fps on the refresh rate of your monitor, so if you really want to compare them, disable it. Even tho, this is one of the first videos of you, i watch, I already love them. Thanks for making my day better

Damn, the way you fly through menus and setting on the steam deck so effortlessly and interface with it makes it seem so comfortable and natural. I know the 1xplayer is new to you so you don’t have the muscle memory with it, but damn it makes the steamdeck look faster, more intuitive, and far far more effortless to use.

I was wondering why there are separate Joy-Cons too. Nobody will confuse it with a Switch! Maybe they expect the sticks will drift? Then they can just tell you to buy a new pair for $60 instead of letting you service it. Also I've seen photos where the controllers were attached to something that looks like the Switch's charging grip. They sell those magnetic keyboards too so if you attach one and remove the controllers then it turns into a Surface-style device (basically a netbook) giving it a second use in school or work without exposing your epic gamer power level.

Game that'll absolutely push your hardware: Elden Ring. Gotta run through all kinds of hoops just to get it to 30fps on Steamdeck. The OnexPlayer seems nice enough but I agree with you on the trackpads. Those are such a big game changer for handheld PC.

The more I watch your vids, the more your voice reminds me of youtuber Smii7y, but a tone lower, and at the same level of enthusiasm. Love it.

I bought the steam deck as a replacement for my laptop. I am now working full time on my steam deck, and once I am fed up with work, I pull it from the dock and switch back to console mode. I do have a desktop on my server that I remotely use too. I think this alone has lowered my power use by 60..80W My 4k monitor would allow to connect to my server, but the monitor only supports 1080p as max resolution for the on-board soc. I would still buy the deck price wise. I would buy the deck support wise. But if the deck wasn't there but something like steam holo (not steam os v2, but really steam deck steam os) would exist, I would buy that and have a bit more room when I am working in the train. Yes, I work in the train too. Everything is possible with the deck. Just as long as you don't install windows, it keeps being useful.

I had one of these for work a while back but ended up selling it. I preferred the Legion Go simply due to it's price point, it performs about the same and also has detachable controllers that work detached and a touch pad (sadly only 1). Out of all of the handheld PCs I've used (Steam Deck, GPDWin 4, ROG Ally, OXP 2, Legion Go) the Legion Go is my favorite right beneath the Steam Deck itself. Most of these modern handheld PCs perform nearly the same (sans Steam Deck), and the price OXP are asking for is just not worth it when you can get a Steam Deck, Ally or Legion Go on the cheap -- relatively speaking of course.

Windows is simply awful for these devices, that’s why the Steam Deck is king, it’s not just the hardware.

No matter how much better the performance of this thing is i just cant think that it would surpass the steamdeck for me. The steamdeck is such a nice pakage with a very fair price that its hard for me to just imagine to switch over to a different system.

to be honest, this handheld is very powerful but it just looks cheap. The steamdeck is very streamline and good looking

I believe the removable joycon are similar to Switch as it seems to also be able to be docked in a Switch dock(looking from the 2 dips on the bottom of it) , quite cool, Like a steamdeck + switch married together. I think that would be quite a plus, now thrid party manufacturer needed only to make the onexplayer Joycon docks or smthing Would be pretty cool concept if multiple joycons are supported as well really pushing the Switch game together idea

Also you can replace your joysticks without servicing the entire tablet. Removable sticks are definitely beneficial
@Notpoop906Ай бұрын
If I had to guess, they probably originally planned to have batteries in the controllers to use them wirelessly but they realised too late that Nintendo's joycon patent basically hinges on the fact they have batteries in them which are charged by docking them in the console. I have seen stories involving third party joycon manufacturers that got into trouble with Nintendo and later had to implement a dedicated USB charging port on each "joycon" and remove that ability to charge via the Switch console so they could re-release the controllers and not get sued. I assume the Onexplayer designers discovered this too late into development and didn't want the clunkiness of having to charge the controllers separately so they just removed the batteries and called it a day.

The fact windows is so terrible on touchscreens is pretty hilarious seeing as they had an entire 5 year phase where they were designing their entire ecosystem around tablet and phone functionality UI. Windows 8 was basically designed for a tablet. Now 7 years later its more tedious than using Vista with touch.
