The G1 looks sexy. I think I might take the plunge and grab one. The sound is really good. How is the display quality on the device and is the cooling good? Great video as always
@GameTechTalk8 күн бұрын
The display is great, exact same as Legion Go and X1 Mini if familiar. Cooling so far no issues, regular fan curve is a tad too noisy for my taste but I've made a quick adjust and the temps have been keeping up nicely so far. The audio is decent but a step back versus ONEXPLAYER devices that had Harman powered speakers. If you never owned one, it will be of no importance as the sound is still fine but if you are familiar, the difference is there.

@GameTechTalk3 күн бұрын
Sadly, I have not. Did do a lot of digging and seems like the final outcome will be similar CPU and 10-20% less GPU power. So, 255H should have similar graphical output and fps as 8840U, in a nutshell. 255H is for the gamblers among us, if you want a guaranteed "top tier" experience, don't think twice, go HX 370.
@tomoprime2173 күн бұрын
@@GameTechTalk the 140T igpu is the star of the show I had thought. It will be much more powerful than a 140V as compared to the newer MSI claw ai 8/7 chip. It should be pretty competitive to the HX 370 for the money especially in power efficiency.

How does it feel for long term gaming
@GameTechTalk8 күн бұрын
Surprising in positive ways. The controller layout is more pleasant than its number one competitor, at least for the time I spent playing on it so far. I still haven't ran the full test "playing laying down", "playing in bed", etc etc but just in a "gaming stance", the curves of the body and the overall layout makes this a really comfortable experience. And though I mentioned it before, and I see people presuming that the rails are a problem, so far, they feel like they are not even there.
@Buddylite048 күн бұрын
Any thoughts on cooling?
@GameTechTalk6 күн бұрын
@ Haven't tested that specifically yet but so far so good. It's a handheld PC so it'll never be dead quiet but even with lowered fan curves, it's been holding up sustainable temps with the games I played so far. I will be putting out the benchmarks in due time to thoroughly stress test though so the final results will give us the final picture.

How do the speakers sound? Does it have any bass
@GameTechTalk5 күн бұрын
I will address it further in the gaming review (maybe even the productivity review), in a nutshell, the audio is good but a little too heavy on the bass and lacking the amplification to push it forward while not polluting mids and highs. It's one of those few exceptions where there is a bit too much bass, I will try and see if I can adjust it before the review and share a fix in them, it sounds like a problem that will easily be fixed though.

@magfal4 күн бұрын
@GameTechTalk a lot of customers in countries where the average disposable income is high and a large proportion of the population work in IT, use localized keyboards. With a separate module they could tailor those rather than having separate SKUs for the whole machine.
@GoblinboyXL9 күн бұрын
This would have been my next device if they cut out the sidewalls, they are unnecessary to include for all but a cm on the top and bottom to keep the keyboard enclosed within the unit. Would have made the device far more ergonomic. Hopefully some intrepid modder comes along and dremel out the side to show OneX whats possible with the next gen, as with that small change and a bigger battery, this device could be incredible
@Ruiso78 күн бұрын
@@GoblinboyXL if they use a dremel to get rid of that, then there would be a gap between the display and device, might damage the hinges as they are probably not designed for to go that far. What's more comfortable this or the xone player ?
@GameTechTalk5 күн бұрын
As someone that likes the X1 controllers, I think from a gaming standpoint that the controllers take a slight edge but it also makes the whole package feel heavier as the weight is off to the sides, rather than being centered. Arguably, for longer duration gaming, I think the "centermass" approach and advantage of the benefit could take the lead in comfort specifically.

@GameTechTalk5 күн бұрын
This is a first for the brand and they strike a different balance than the competing devices that have a similar style. I'd say experimental in the sense that by being exposed to their take, I find things I think I'd like to see in a future iteration but in that same breath, I can also say that's tech in a bubble. Overall, the G1 is exciting for me personally, but will there be better down the road? I most certainly hope so!

I would like a review focusing on productivity. I've owned every version of the GPD Pocket and skipped the latest to buy this so I want to know if the trade off was worth it. :) Specifically interested in how usable the trackpad and keyboard. OFC also interested in gaming too but hard to do both justice in one video!
@GameTechTalk5 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your input. I'm still debating if I merge the do and have dedicated sections or one separate but with your specific questions, I'll make sure to make note of them and answer that one way or another. Cheers! :)
@han-shenyuan40585 күн бұрын
Thanks for replying to me! It's one of the rare times the creator wrote back. I'm so excited. ❤ If you do focus on productivity - how typeable the physical keyboard is I think is key. Onexplayer would have made a bad move if they went through all this trouble but in reality the keyboard isn't great for real work. As an example, I would consider the GPD Pocket 1, 2, and the P2 Max to have terrible keyboard layouts but the Pocket 3 was slightly better. Other questions in the productivity vein would be battery life for non-gaming workloads. I think some of us are also wondering how repairable this is - is it easy to open up and repair on our own; given the high TDP capabilities, I could see the battery getting crushed over time. Would be nice if that was replaceable.

Does it have Thunderbolt 4?
@GameTechTalk8 күн бұрын
Not to get technical but Thunderbolt 4 is an Intel technology. USB4 supports same total bandwidth and is retro-compatible with Thunderbolt 3 as Intel pretty much donated Thunderbolt tech to the USB organization. Thunderbolt 4 requires multiple components for the tech to be fully supported so in a nutshell, the AMD variant of this device should be USB4 capable, whereas the Intel version should technically be Thunderbolt 4 capable. For the most part, it'll give the same results in 95% of scenarios, including most eGPU enclosure solutions. The rare occasions where Tb4 will have an edge (if but small at that) are rare and the connector would not be the only necessary component to ensure compatibility to do so. Tl;dr - No for AMD models but it has something just as good, technically yes for Intel model but can't confirm at the moment.

The X1 / X1 Mini exist for modular solutions, based off of the experience I've had, I can totally see people go for the G1. @DudeStrange8 күн бұрын
Well, as someone who's also on the fence (for bit different reasons) i did some research into G1's pocketability, so here's what i found out: 1- the official Indiegogo page claims the 208mm by 146.5mm when closed, which just so happens to neatly correspond with the dimensions of the A5 sheet of paper. 2- this means that you, as i did, can make a rough dummy by stacking about 4-6 generic notebooks to mach the 32mm thickness of the device. and so far it seems that i have one pair of jeans that can fit about 90% of the device with minor struggle when inserting the "device" at first. my winter jacket fits it whole nice and snuggly. a compact size fanny pack i have fits the "device" halfway trough when inserted vertically (sadly it's ziphole is to narrow to put it horizontally)which might be nice alternative to carrying cases, and i already saw online some that would fit the criteria
@GameTechTalk5 күн бұрын
The answer is yes and the proof is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmXMo5-sqqeqrNE Great find @DudeStrange and yeah, for the most part, I'd say probably no to jeans pockets (except baggy back pocket ones) but for sweats, jogging, light fabric, should be more than fine, same goes for most jacket pockets!
