So I'm guessing you can't hit kids in the sims without mods (I dunno I always used mods lol) but that's why the kid grew to get slapped. The game didn't have any animations that involved hurting kids so the mods bypasssed this by scaling up the child model for a second to get the slap. I can't explain it any other way...
