Time for a bit of a detailed response they probably weren't really asking for: Depending on the speed of an injury, it can happen so fast it pinches the blood vessels shut and it takes them a moment to re-open (the medical term for this is "shunting). It's quite common in stuff like high speed car accidents or gunshot wounds due to the velocity of the bullets. Combined with adrenaline, which is a natural painkiller, people have been able to continue on in spite of grievous injuries. (Look up the shootout of Sgt. Timothy Gramins.) There are cases of people not feeling missing limbs at all, people getting stabbed in bar fights and not feeling it until someone points out they have a knife in them, cases of people who get fatally shot and are able to keep pushing themselves until they just... drop dead. Dr. Beck Weathers is another example, who had suffered the worst case of hypothermia in documented history during the Mt. Everest tragedy of 1996. He fell into a coma 15 hours out in a blizzard, woke back up, and in the midst of hypoxic dementia walked himself off the mountain back to into the safety of camp. (He also maintained the presence of mind to check on his incapacitated teammate Namba Yasuko before heading back to safety.) Alternatively, there are people who get shot in the leg once and die on the scene, or people who slip and fall and knock themselves out and land facefirst in their pet's water dish and drown. It's an interesting duality, the paradoxical durability of the human body.
@placeholder_0094 жыл бұрын
That is kinda weird, how people are both very durable and very fragile at the same time.
@kryyto65874 жыл бұрын
Interesting, you're a probably true, its totally paradoxal
@fematrailer3 жыл бұрын
I know this is old but... There's more to the dynamics of bleeding than just shunting and cauterization and such. Adrenaline and parasympathetic nervous responses also cause blood vessels to constrict, referred to as vasoconstriction, which can often slow bleeding enough to make a noticeable difference. This is what is happening when you see someone get shot multiple times and still be running around fighting. The thing is that it doesn't last for very long, and the blood vessels will actually dilate after the stress response wears off. This often leads to the person who's been shot multiple times and escapes to bleeding out the moment the Adrenaline is gone--basically, they stop being tensed up and all their blood dumps out at once. It also explains how a person who is injured during while fighting sometimes doesn't bleed out as fast as someone who was taken by surprise and given the same injury (the difference between a stress response occuring before an injury or after/because of it.)

The fact that scientists believe the Universe will end doesn't disprove religion. Firstly because science is constantly disproved by new theories and therefore any accepted fact of science is not necessarily true. Every state has bad points, the problem is that for some reason California is like seen as this microcosm for this and that, despite it being one of the largest states with the largest and most diverse population, with the quite most diverse political population. People like to complain about guns, but we had sheriff's who handed out CCWs like candy, as well as counties where open carry was tolerated for people who had a reason, despite it being illegal state wide. We had (but thanks to some awesome groups, including some fighting against the laws in California, there's way more states with relatively no knife laws besides restricted places) some of the best knife laws in the country, other than for switchblades, but some counties and cities are also some of the most strict in the country. We've got some of the wealthiest and poorest. And yeah, we've got homelessness and people doing drugs and shitting in the streets, but the sad fact is people want you to think that isn't an issue in every major American city. You don't think going to Texas you're not going to find homeless, or people doing drugs or shitting in the street? If you don't, it's because they're pushed out far enough by the cops, or they're just regularly placed back in jails, which costs the tax payers there a shit ton of money, compared to just finding them housing and mental and physical rehabilitation. Let's put it this way, there are states out there that are how Chris describes Ireland. They want to act like the Midwest or south or whatever is just a bunch of nice grannies, but there are places there where people will just punch you for no reason, even if their granny is great at the church Sunday potluck. Every state has their fucked points. Only people who get to complain about a state should be the people who live there, because those complaints should stem from trying to change something. Granted, the way things are, people seem to like changing things for the worse, complaining about things that literally don't exist, simply because they read about it on the internet. But my point stands. If you don't live here, you don't get to complain about it. And if you weren't born in a state, you DEFINITELY don't get to complain about it until you've at least lived there for a decade.
