Lyle's hostage tip stories reminded me of my worst Tip Story: it was a Curry restaurant, and I paid a 15% tip (Meal was $30, tipped exactly $5). Here's a weird one: Remember that show Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel? There was this one episode where they tested the myth that women with big boobs get tipped more. Spoiler alert I guess, but... Myth Confirmed... BUT upon reviewing the footage, they found that it wasn't just MEN who were tipping more after seeing a woman with big huge boobs. WOMEN actually tipped EQUALLY more money by the SAME AMOUNT & PERCENTAGE! Why? I have no idea, and if I recall, even the Mythbusters couldn't figure out anything conclusive about it either! You'd think it would be the opposite & that women would tip LESS under the pretense that they're jealous of seeing a woman with bigger honkers or whatever, but it didn't happen! Another fun thing about tipping in the US, for restaurants anyway, is even if you tip your server 20%, the server still has to pay out the other support staff, like bussers, bartenders, and hosts, a percentage of their total sales, it ranges from like 2% to 3% for a cheaper restaurant and up to 6% percent for fine dining restaurants. So if the server gets stiffed on a bill, the support staff still gets tipped out anyway so the server actually loses money.

I fucking hate tip culture. A pizza place local to me that you have to pick it up and bake it at home yourself, recommends tipping. I did for a while cause ive always been conditioned to tip, but realized theres literally no reason to, when im cooking it and picking it up myself. They dont put very many toppings on my pizza anymore. They make the same ammount of pay i do, and i cant accept tips at my job.

Bartenders like the ones Chris described only work at trendy bars/restaurants and they often make over a hundred bucks every day they work. Generally speaking they're very pretentious and substitute their "mixology" studies for an actual degree in their minds to make them feel like they belong in the trendy and expensive bars and restaurants that they work in, and to cope with being a college drop-out. The good ones are actually in dive bars, not deafening holes in the wall but the kinds you see a bunch of old-timers playing pool and cards in. That's where you can get 8 dollar long islands poured in a solo cup and they're the best. And if the bartender is a sweet old biker chick a few kind words can get you a freebie too, sometimes.
