Onimusha 3 was my all-time favorite. I wondered if we see Samanosuke/Tenkai again, or maybe that's him or someone else? I don't know. Either way, I'm excited about this game and can't wait for this game to come.

I hope more than anything that the Oni AREN'T retconned as evil like western society typically interprets demonic entities. I love the benevolent protector characterization of the Oni in the franchise as it's accurate to many mythological stories of oni in history. Onimusha was one of the first video games i ever remembered watching my uncle play it when I was 4. Can't believe it's finally back 💜

18 years...18 years for news of a NEW Onimusha game 20 years for its release During the gameplay, you can see the clash mechanic that can happen since Warlords, the orbs are also flotaing around in yellow color which if is accurate to past games are health orbs, the dismemberment could also be fatality attacks such as in Warlords where after knocking down an enemy and then pressing the attack button on them during that moment will perform a fatal attack

This caught me off guard and I can't wait. I almost gave up the hope of them never making another game. Excited to say the gameplay will be closely incorporating the Onimusha's block/defense mechanisms. Both scenes fighting the genma are blocks that counter to something, truly sick.

If this is Musashi, then i am even more hyped. I'd always had the belief he'd make a great onimusha main character. Though, like you said, the onimusha anime wasn't what it could have been. I wonder if or how they'll implement issen into this game.

The enemy at around 6:30, it isn't as much hair/fur as you think, it looks mostly like paper with stuff written on it. Not sure what type of notes they are or whatever they're called. I thought it was hair at first too, until I realized that would NOT match the quality of the content seen so I took a closer look and saw that.

I'm glad us Onimusha fans have something to look forward to. It's been so long since I've gotten to talk about it. I think you're right. It seems like Osric, which would be cool if this IS a rework. Might give us more focus on certain foes. I'm a little afraid of the direction, but I'm hopeful!

The corruption coming from the gauntlet could be because of Nobunagas souls in there. On the magic weapons, I am getting early game vibes from the footage in the trailer before you actually got any new weapons. That mainly comes from the main characters clothing. Now this is pure speculation of course, but those tattered and torn up clothes he's wearing don't feel to me like how he is gonna look throughout the game. Maybe alongside new weapons he also gets new armor or clothes. At this point it is really just too early to say anything about this, we got like 20 seconds of gameplay footage after all. Also I don't think that's Samanosuke, the description of the game says it takes place in the Edo era, which would mean Samanosuke would be between 67 and 332 years old. And we know how old Samanosuke looks like from DoD.

Im pretty sure we get a sequel. The description states Edo period. That started in around 1600. Onimusha 1-4 played all from mid to late 1500. the times may not be 100% but its definetly not onimusha 1. I could imagine someone found samanosukes gauntlet with nobunagas soul and him slowly is taking over? Would be interesting. But i wish for more lore behind the oni over everything else 😂

Saw the trailer and immediately had to check if you'd already done a video on it. I was so hyped watching this trailer, the art-style is a nice evolution of the original series and the Genma look brilliant (after the disappointment of the designs in the Netflix series I am so eager to get some creative looking Genma again). Yes it looks like Sekiro/Souls-like gameplay rather than the classic hack and slash but unfortunatley I think that's the best way to give it a chance of success. Hopefully some of the original gameplay is still included but I'm open to this change as long as the gameplay is good. Plus that kind of game has an established audience so hopefully it'll help bring new people to the Onimusha fanbase and get the game to sell well (more money might mean Capcom are more likely to fight through the licensing to give us proper remasters of the other games). It's oddly reassuring that you seemed to be worried about the same thing I was, because as hyped as I was watching the trailer the moment that line about 'feeling less human' came up I immediately got worried. I really really hope that there is more inspiration from the games than the Netflix series here, because I really don't want them to go in the direction that story did. Although, considering your annotation pointed out this game is set in the Edo Period and the character could be Musashi, part of me is cautiously optimistic that they might be learning from the mistakes of the anime and actually reimagining that story into something more in line with the original series. Which could be cool because the anime story had some potential, it just didn't work as an Onimusha story. Again that's being cautiously optimistic, I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for the story to be good. And honestly even if it is a reboot rather than a continuation of the series, I think I'd prefer they just do a different story than rehash the one in Warlords. New characters and new plot, just keep the Genma and Oni faithful to how they were in the original games. Samanosuke is so established in my mind that I really don't want to see him done any other way, I'd rather a brand new cast than risk changes to him and the other characters I love. Loved hearing your thoughts as usual, I'm excited to see a new Onimusha game and keeping my fingers crossed it's good. Can't wait to see the next What-If.

I wish they would have co op in it. The co op was so fun in 4! I used to play it all the time when I would go over my friends house as a kid and I would love if they tried that again but made it more streamlined. Also, I thought the character in this trailer more closely resembles the character from the Netflix series.

I've been a fan since the first Onimusha in 2001. I was waiting for this reaction video from you lol i watched the trailer live and when I saw the gaunlet absorbing the red souls, I knew it was Onimusha, but I still said, "there is no fucking way!!". I'm just wondering if this is a complete reboot or if its connected to the previous games in some way.

This game needs to play like a true hack and slash title in the mid 2000's, with hints of Devil May Cry 5. We dont need this to be soulslike in terms of gameplay. I like the art style of the game, it feels like a proper supernatural horror story in Edo Japan. I hope ISSEN makes a massive return, those critical strikes made Onimusha what it was

Pretty sure they can't use Samanosuke without Takeshi Kaneshiro, since he/his agency also has rights to the character. I doubt Capcom would be able to just alter the design of the character and say it's Samanosuke. I don't know what the situation is with him, I read somewhere that he is slowing down on acting and focusing on his own interests now, but I hope he does come back eventually, absolutely love him as Sam. Also hope they keep it as a fast-paced, flashy hack-and-slash, there is no reason to change genres. I also absolutely despise what they're doing to the lore of the oni gauntlet. They did it in the anime, where the gauntlet saps the user's humanity slowly, but that goes against the cannon of the games, since the gauntlet did the exact opposite, giving powers to the user, preventing their death, slowing aging, etc. I'm mostly positive though, super happy we're finally back!

Before this trailer, what I hoped for was for them to do a Final Fantasy 7 style remake of Onimusha Tactics. It is not a very popular game but it has all the popular characters and enemies from the 1st 3 games. They wouldn't have to deal with character likeness issues with the new protagonist, Onimaru, and his design and Onimusha transformation look great based on art of the game.

I think the protag is a resemblance to Miyamoto Musashi figure (with the 2 katanas), in which the character also featured in the anime. The timeline also in edo period, inline with popular figure Miyamoto Musashi. the character design also resemblence to the vagabond looks of Miyamoto Musashi in Vagabond manga.

That other game capcon dropped where you liberate cursed villages definately seems to have some development pillars within this game judging from the sense of scale and the new genma.

I'm very happy, 20 years since Dawn Of Dreams. What a nice surprise. Now, if this game will be placed in the Edo Era, i have to say a few things: 1. The Shogunate was reigned by the Tokugawa clan, and the first Shōgun was Ieyasu Tokugawa, the real father of Hideyasu Yuki, Soki in the game lore. 2. In real life, the Edo period begins after the Sekigahara Battle. In the series, that battle was not recreated. Can we have that battle as the final stage? 3. In real history, Tenkai Nankōbō was a priest in The Edo Era. In the series, Tenkai is Samanosuke Akechi in disguise so, Tenkai will be back? And that's it. I really wish to play this game with all the modern stuff like sekiro, monster hunter, Ghost of Tsushima, Ronin, Nioh, etc. Welcome back Onimusha 😁😁😁😁😁😁

The closest modern day game AAA is Warframe, they borrowed alot of Onimusha elements into their engine and wow its like playing Onimusha again! but with many many many different characters and each being unique. its like Onimusha on absolute bonkers!! and Onimusha is still today one of my favorite games, totally a rare gem AAA in its time, I only wish they came out with another one with many characters!

honestly i liked the whole trailer but in the end when he says 'i am feeling less human every minute' line i feel like they want to portray oni to be kind of bad as well like the anime, but i really hope i am wrong and this game get superhit breaking all the records so they make remake of all the previous onimusha game, idk i think they can pay spent few % of budget of the game for likeness i don't think they will charge more than $1 mill. Capcom can afford that much.

I really thought Onimusha was dead after the failed warlords remaster and the netflix anime too. I'm also afraid this becomes a Sekiro which is a game i personally dislike a lot but this is still a great chance for the series to come back if this new one is a sucess which i believe that it will be since souls always have a lot o attention (see wukong). I know I'm not one to force you to anything but, could you do a speculation video about this game later? talking about where this could go since it seems it will be after dawn of dreams timeline.

The original's issen mechanic is what got me hooked to perfect parry/dodge mecahnics in action games. There's so much potential in a modern Onimusha game and I have faith in Capcom. I'm sure they'll make something amazing. EDIT: 8:36 - I loved the katana so much in the original, that after my first playthrough all my subsequent playthroughs where done with that (including the demon realm). It's effectively an issen run that looks and feels _amazing._

If i would bet, i would say it's gonna be Capcom's "God of War", could be their Souls-like tho, but i think they'll just place their bets on that instead because it fits Onimusha really well... Or they can just make a Resident Evil with Swords again, i wouldn't mind, i'm playing the shit out of this even if it was a Minecraft clone xD

@DanishThePenguin but it has been confirmed that it is a sequel to dawn of dreams, the new game take place in the Edo period, right after dawn of dreams, but it the only confirmation information right now about the story.

@personaking7 When I say it isn't confirmed, I mean we don't know if it's a reboot based in Edo period, and therefore a separate continuity. If that's the case, then everything that happened up to Dawn of Dreams has no impact on Way of the Sword. I do hope that it is a sequel rather than a reboot, but only time will tell
