really like your extensive use of 1/4 in irrigation drippers. That must have been a life changer in terms of watering your plants. Great job Pecan Grove

What a blessed place to live and work. My dream is a high tunnel. No room where we are now. Praying the Lord put us in our perfect place. We are blessed where we are though. God is good ALL the time.

Hello Danny and Wanda. I sure appreciate how well you take care of the plants you are growing. The onions and celery is looking very good. I' always very inspired and wish my high tunnel was up and running but must wait until Spring. Good to see the comparison. I look forward to seeing how things go in days to come.

Garden looks fantastic. Onions are super. I planted 50 plants last spring. For softball and baseball size onions. I am on my last gallon bag of frozen onions. Guess I need to plant more this spring. Went through them all just myself. I love onions. No growing now here in Indiana. Looking forward to spring.

When I was living in the Phoenix area in n Arizona, I saw peppers and lantana commonly used as highway shrubs. If they don’t freeze or get diseased, they are perennials, as are tomatoes.

Danny, how often do you fertilize your plants
@vickisavage892919 сағат бұрын
Different varieties of celery are supposed to have different flavors and growth habits. Lovage is a perennial that is supposed to taste like strong celery and be useful for both food and medicine.
@vickyboyer238418 сағат бұрын
Do you wrap your celery? I grew it once and the instructions said to wrap with newspaper. I cant remember why. Yours look great.

It's to blanch the stems. It isn't necessary.

Would love the Vego beds but it’s going to be awhile. One thing at a time and I want to get a high tunnel in place first.
@vickisavage892918 сағат бұрын
When you are comparing the high tunnel and outside onions, remember that you separated them and put the better ones in the high tunnel. I hope you are planning to have a second high tunnel. I have ideas… 😁
@vickisavage892918 сағат бұрын
There are DEFINITE differences in growing zones, even if they have the same USDA cold numbers. Almonds, olives, and pistachios all are Mediterranean crops that require dry summers and don’t like humidity then. Avocados handle humidity well, but are subject to sun scald until they grow enough bark and canopy to protect themselves. A FEW Mexican varieties of avocado are cold tolerant to the mid teens, but they are not grown commercially despite being sometimes delectable.

I grew a lot of celery this past Summer. It was so bitter, it was inedible. I ripped it all out and fed it to the sheep.

Celery is a cool weather plant.
@HeatherNaturaly10 сағат бұрын
@@pecangrovems So you plant it in the Fall? I planted mine in April. It grew really well, but was inedible. I don't have success with Fall/Winter crops. It gets too cold, even with frost covers. I could never afford a high tunnel.
@pecangrovems9 сағат бұрын
@HeatherNaturaly we have to plant in the fall because it gets to hot in the spring to early.

You can help pollinate the mystery plant just to see exactly what it is. And cut off leaves that are blocking the other's, i mean after all, you let it grow this long. I'd grow whatever produce it does & save the seeds. Just because it was determined enough to grow back, it's adapted to it's grow area. I was told you couldn't grow raspberries & blackberries together because raspberries could pass on diseases to the blackberries. Maybe that's just if they're outdoors? 🤷♂️

What kind of weed protection do you use to keep the floor looking so clean and weed free???? We are putting in a small one, so I need some kind of weed barrier for the inside.
@gmcvay418 сағат бұрын
It's woven weed fabric. Same thing nurseries use. I think he laid cardboard over the top.
