Where is the video talking about the Zone 2 feature? I wanted to know if I can view two sources at once. Like playing two game systems each on its own screen (using both HDMI main & HDMI sub). And will be able to hear both audio sources (both Main front(L&R) & Zone 2(L&R)?)
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can use Zone 2 HDMI to watch the same content as played in the main room. Viewing different sources at the same time is not possible. Thanks for asking!

First thanks for posting the video! My question is I have a older 708 which was great but after 6 years when it turns on no sound output at first. After a few off and ons sound will work. Onkyo repair center will change the board and labor for about $220. I just bought the TX-NR 656 and set it up but my question is Can you change the display from the CAB/SAT to displaying the sound that is actually being output? I know that if you press the I button it shows the sound info but then reverts back to default setting. This is my 4th onkyo and the only one that didn't automatically show the sound info as Blue ray was playing a HD sound.

Just got off the phone with Onkyo who informed me that Onkyo models no longer supports showing the sound info instead of input name. Poor decision I think. This was the reason for the purchase. Now looking at a Denon which has the options I prefer

If I have a 5.1 setup in main room, and I have 2 additional speakers (each in separate rooms with independent volume control knows), does this receiver enable me to do a Speaker B configuration (as I have now), in that the other 2 speakers output, in stereo, what the source in the main room in playing?
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, this AV receiver supports a Zone 2 -which you can use to listen e.g. to the same music source as in the main room. For the output of the audio signal, you can choose between powered mode (e.g. connecting your Zone 2 speakers with a speaker cable directly to the AVR) or line-out mode (requiring an external amplifier in your Zone 2 room).

I have another question about the 656. I went into my settings to set the equalizer settings for prefix #1. I then selected it and noticed a difference in sound quality right away, but for some reason today I noticed that the sound was very flat and i checked me equalizer prefixes and it was turned off so I turned it back on. How can I make it so that the my desired equalizer prefix is kept even after I put the receiver and stand by?
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, please be aware that ... 1. Editing of equalizer preset settings is done in the setup menu (where you can change/modify the frequency settings. 2. The preset settings need to be activated in the Quick menu for the corresponding input source. E.g. - You have edited "Preset 1" to match your movies preferences. - You have edited "Preset 2" to match your audio streaming preferences. Then choose e.g. "BD" as input source for your Blu-ray player, press the quick menu button and select AccuEQ/Preset 1 as equalizer preset for this input source. Then choose e.g. "NET" as input source for audio streaming, press the quick menu on the remote and select AccuEQ/Preset 2 as EQ preset for this input source. The selected presets are then automatically saved for each input source and will be automatically switched when you select the input source next time.

I am a prospective customer. Plan to buy this amp within the next two months. A quick question regarding the "2-6 Equalizer Settings" seen at 3:46 in the video. This is very exciting news to me as I have more than 16 years experience mixing sound. The ability to set my system the way I like it, at this level of detail, is something I'm looking forward to. But, what does it mean when saying "As for the 15 available bands you can actually use 9 of them". I'm unsure how this is implemented? Does it mean that you can apply changes to 9 bands and when you want to make more changes you are blocked? Can you make changes to any 9 bands?
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, from the 15 available bands, you can select up to 5 bands (here: 25-160 Hz) for the Subwoofer and nine bands (from 25 Hz to 16 kHz) for all other speakers. And yes, you can change your selection. But e.g. only up to 9 bands can be used at the same time for the "other speakers" (front/center/height...). T

How do I pair/set up Sony Wireless headphones with the Onkyo656? Is that where I would access zone 2?
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 8 жыл бұрын
Hi - this depends on the wireless headphones you are using. Please be aware that Bluetooth wireless headphones are not supported by the AV receiver, e.g. it is currently not possible to stream audio from the AV receiver to any wireless Bluetooth headphones directly. To use any wireless headphones with the AVR, you will need a transmitter that will be connected to the AV receiver to either the headphone output or the cinch/line output (this depends on your wireless headphone).

Hi Onkyo, thanks for the video it was a great help!! We upgraded our receiver to the tax nr 656 from an older Denon. In our main room we chose the 3.2.1 config which is what we have an that it working great. One issue we are having is getting zone 2 working, we have 2 hard wired speakers over our bar and I have them connected to the back of the receiver where it says zone 2 and we have no sound. I have checked the connections numerous times and we are out of ideas. It seems like it should be simple. Can you help ?

Hey! You know that zone 2 line output? If I wanted to use a tape deck with this receiver. I know I would use one of the RCA inputs for the tape decks line output, but for the tape decks record input line in, could I use the zone 2 connector for that since its just a line input? Also what features become limited when you use zone 2? Because you said in the video some stuff becomes limited when you use zone 2. Thanks.
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can use the Zone 2 Lineout to connect the AVR with the RCA input of your tape deck. However, the following limitations apply: the audio from AV components can only be output to Zone 2 when the input is analog or 2 ch PCM audio signals. DSD and Dolby TrueHD audio signals are not output to Zone 2 when selected with the "NET" input selector. Thanks.

Hi, I have UDP-205 and planning to listen my cd collection by using dedicated analog outs on it. I also want to use HDMI out from OPPO and HDMI in on ONKYO for movies only. Would it be possible to switch inputs on ONKYO and WHICH audio in on txnr-656 would you suggest? (since this model doesn't have 7.1 or 5.1 analog ins?) Thanx
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Igor, you could use e.g. HDMI 1 (BD/DVD) for movies and analog input 5 (CD) as input for analog stereo. You could use any other analog stereo/HDMI input as well, but using HDMI1 and analog 5 the input button descriptions would already match your sources...

How am I supposed to decide between Dolby, THX and ALL Surround? I feel like something is wrong when choosing something other than All Surround on my 7.1 setup?
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 7 жыл бұрын
Hi and apologies for the delay. Usually, you would choose (or let the AVR switch to ) the listening mode depending on the source content: e.g. Dolby Atmos listening mode for Dolby Atmos content, Dolby TrueHD for Dolby TrueHD encoded Blu-rays, DTS:X for DTS:X content, etc. Please be aware that "AllCh Stereo" will use all speaker channels, but filling the room with stereo L/R sound only (e.g. not making use of any surround audio tracks from your DVD/Blu-ray). So this mode should only be used for stereo content, but not surround encoded material. The Advanced manual for TX-NR656 explains all available listening modes on page 29 (and following), and shows you on page 32+ which listening modes can be used for which source material. We hope this helps for now - please feel free to get in touch with the colleages from customer care if you have any specific questions regarding listening modes - you can also reach them by phone, if you prefer: www.uk.onkyo.com/en/support-273.html

Thank you, I have another question? How can I configure the settings so that when I watch only tv it will output the sound from the tv speakers?
@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, to have your AVR output the sound of your TV, you will need to use ARC - Audio Return Channel. Your TV needs to support ARC (and the HDMI cable needs to be connected to the HDMI port of your TV which supports ARC ) - and your AVR needs to have ARC switched on in the setup menu ("Yes" in "5. Audio Return Channel). Also "HDMI CEC" needs to be turned on. Please be aware that only the "Main" HDMI output of your AVR supports ARC - not the "Sub" HDMI output. Please refer to the manual for more details about Audio Return Channel / ARC.

@OnkyoEU
@OnkyoEU 8 жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure which setting you are referring to. In case you refer to the setup menu 2.2 Crossover settings, please set the crossover frequency according according to the information provided on your speaker manual. Despiste any technical specs, sometimes it can be even better to try different settings (e.g. 70 Hz, 80 Hz, 90 Hz, 100 Hz) and listen for yourself (e.g. choosing a song in good audio quality that you know well). Do you hear any difference? Does it sound better with a specific frequency setting? You hear "more" or "less" with a specific setting? Does it sound more or less "natural"? For many audio settings, there is no single "100%" correct setting...

My "old" TX-NR818 had major hdmi issues after 1,5 years.. Fortunately it was solved due to warranty. They just replaced the whole hdmi board. Be aware to leave space behind the hdmi interfaces, so the hdmi cables are free. That was the reason my board broke, they told me...Well, that had nothing to do with it, since bad hdmi boards were well known issues regarding many stories on avsforum. Hopefully the 656 had a better hdmi board.. But again, the low price / what you get is something to consider about. But again, more expensive amps with the same features are not always better amps.. So I got myself one 656, so far so good...

Hi legbreaker, thank you for your feedback. Please be aware that the issue with the HDMI boards turned out to be a problem with a defective network IC/chip from a leading, well-known hardware supplier. The chip had a "hardware bug" - something that does not happen often, but as we can see, it does happen. And something that we were certainly not aware of to avoid the issue right from beginning. As a response to the issue, the Customer Care Program was initiated to offer customers the possibility to have their product easily repaired: www.eu.onkyo.com/en/customer-service-program-118747.html This program even extends the standard warranty to make sure that our customers are not put into any disadvantageous position. Enjoy your TX-NR656 - and in case of any issues, please get in touch with our customer care team, the colleagues will be glad to assist...
