Bought an ONKYO TX-NR676E believing I could watch 4K videos of my sons' basketball games, recorded in 4K of course, using my very own iPhone. NO SUCCESS! After 2 weeks of re-wiring, changing of HDMI cables (latest 1 being the "4K HDMI Cable 6ft - Atevon High Speed HDMI 2.0 Cable 18Gbps [Supports 4K HDR]", investing further on another not-so-cheap 2017 NVIDIA Shield TV Box (latest firmware to boot!) hooked up directly to subject Onkyo AVR. Still, all the NR676E could do is passthrough 1080p 60Hz! Tops! My LG TV 65UJ630V has no trouble displaying UHD quality though when the Shield's HDMI OUT connects directly to TV's HDMI IN but then, Atmos & DTS-X get compromised (not viewing iPhone-shot 4K vids anymore) making me conclude the Onkyo receiver does NOT do real 4K passthrough as claimed unless a kind soul here tells me otherwise & explains to me so I'll change my negative opinion on the AVR I purchased. Thanks!

Onkyo Ht-R494 freezes via Arc connection on my LG TV. Everything else works but ARC. Tested with new HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 cable. LG TV is from last year and supports ARC as well. Obviously ARC is activated on the receiver and TV. What can I do?

Great video 👍🏻 Im purchasing a new receiver tomorrow. I was looking at the Sony 1080 but now I’m leaning more towards this one after a few reviews I’ve read. Is this tailored more towards music than movie? Also can you change bass and treble on the fly when listening to 2 channel music ?
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lewis - and thanks for your positive feedback. The TX-NR676E and its successor TX-NR686 are engineered to show their strenghts in both worlds. While originally coming from the movies world, today's AV receivers have many features related to high quality playback of audio (e.g. circuit design, support for hi-res audio streaming/services, wireless multi-room audio, ...). Basically it's up to you how you would like to use this device at a given time. You can easily adjust tone when listening to 2 channel music, e.g. by pressing the TONE button on the front panel (repeatedly to switch between "Bass" and "Treble"), and turning the TONE dial below the button to adjust the sound...

OnkyoEU much appreciated, thanks. all setup today and I’m absolutely amazed how good the sound quality is compared to my 5 years old pioneer receiver. Even before I’d done the room AccuEQ the sound was tons better. Extremely impressed. The only thing I’m confused with is should I run my floor standers in full band or just set to small and use the crossover? I’m using a Dali e12F sub too so should that take over all the low frequencies instead of the fronts ? Thanks again!!!
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lewis, many thanks for your positive feedback! Regarding your question, this is actually a matter of personal taste (e.g. there is no "right" or "wrong"). With floor standers, using full band and "Pure Audio" mode is the perfect choice when listening to music - in this mode, the sub will not be used. When watching movies, full band can still be used together with the sub. But you can also set them to small and use the crossover setting - also a very good choice for movies. As said, the final decision depends on personal taste and your actual room/listening environment. We would recommend listening to both modes in your environment and then deciding on which sounds better for you.

After the initial setup is complete, how can the OSD for the setup menu be brought back, on demand?
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
To redo the Initial Setup: If you terminate the procedure on the way or want to change a setting made during Initial Setup, press on the remote controller, select "7. Miscellaneous" - "Initial Setup", and press ENTER.

@@OnkyoEU Thanks. I got it going. Needed to re-calibrate after moving some things around. It's a lot of receiver for the money. Something that's not highlighted is the excellent analog-to-digital video processing that makes my old LaserDiscs watchable on the video projector. Support for SACD/DSD is awesome.

Hi I have onkyo 676 great sounds and working great for more than two months then it shut off upon powering " check speaker wire " display I'm using a banana plug , i'll check all the speaker wire seems good. I tried hard factory reset it works for 1 to 2 weeks same problem again. I listen at a very low volume with a fan in front of my receiver to get rid of thermal problem as other receiver does in the forum. My software was updated to its latest version. Lately I could not perform the factory reset since the receiver shuts off for a few minutes no standby mode lit. I purchased this receiver with only 1 month warranty yet no onkyo service center within our city. This is 120 volts, thus im using an AVR lately I heard several clicking sound in my AVR which I presumed to be the caused of this issue. Please help..

So the Receiver will not upgrade the 1080i (720p) signal from my tv provider to 4k, as my tx-nr656?
@OnkyoEU7 жыл бұрын
Hi, correct. The reason for this is that basically all of today's 4K displays already have an integrated up scaler. You will hardly find any 4K display without one. Adding another scaler in the processing chain does not make sense - especially if the main priority of this device is actually the processing and handling of audio :) Thanks for asking!

Can it fix Lip Sync issues when the sound arrives *after* the picture (ie delay the video not just the sound?)
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
Hi and apologies for late reply: when referring to the A/V sync where you can manually adjust the delay, it will only support delaying the audio, not the video, we're afraid.

Thanks for the reply. Can't understand why it's so rare, when my old AV receiver had it. Seems silly to have one without the other (not to mention infuriating!)

Hi, firstly great video, thanks so much for it. Just one question to confirm my understanding. So this receiver doesn't do any video processing whatsoever, it just pass the video through to the TV, is that right?

Hi and thanks for your feedback. The video signal will be passed through to the TV, correct. There is no further processing.

Hi Philip, please apologize - we're afraid we have received some incorrect information. The TX-NR676 does NOT support upscaling from 1080p to 4K, it will passthrough the signal only.

Is there a way to reduce my master volume while speaker levely callibration. Right now the master volume is set to zero reference level.

Hello, there is no way to modify the volume level during calibration process. The volume is set to a predefined level as part of the calibration process. Modifying the volume would cause incorrect calibration results... Thanks for asking!

Can you add an external amp to this receiver for use in Zone 1?
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
Hi, the TX-NR676 supports an external amp for Zone 2 only - not for any channels in Zone1. If you are looking for an AV receiver with multichannel pre-outs (in Zone 1), TX-RZ820 and higher models will be the right choice... Thanks for asking!

can i hook up all my devices (xbox, apple airplay) to the receiver and only have the ARC cable go to the tv? i want to know if i can disregard my tv hub with this receiver.
@OnkyoEU5 жыл бұрын
Hi and yes, you can hook up all your mentioned devices via HDMI to the input ports of your AV receiver, then using a single HDMI cable to connect to the TV. Please make sure that ARC is enabled in the setup menu of your AV receiver and your TV (some TVs support ARC for a specific HDMI port only, please consult the manual, if required). Thank you!

Turn on Dolby Loudness (3-2 in menu) and listen in Atmos or Dolby Surround. Also increase the source volume dB coming from the Apple TV into the Onkyo (4-1 in menu).

Unfortunately ONKYO SUPPORT lies about this (edit gives conflicting information). Onkyo 676 with chromecast built in DOESN'T WORK WITH GOOGLE HOME (edit...does work) OR GOOGLE ASSISTANT (edit does work). Onkyo FAILS in clear information on this. Very disappointing
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
Dear erredobble, We're sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the setup of TX-NR676E with Google Home/Google Assistant. The TX-NR676E with Chromecast built-in does support Google Home and Google Assistant. Please you let us your support ticket # so we can follow-up on this case. Thank you!
@erredobble6 жыл бұрын
Info on Internet and from Onkyo support department is very conflicting. They said assistent was not supported but home speaker is. Had to ask several questions on this because first reply was that there was no voice command support at all. Finally bought a Google Home for this and still did not work. But fixed it today by resetting onkyo receiver so it did link in the home app (before it didn't). Now Google Home voice commands works after a long frustrating search. And now you come with the answer that assistent should work on the 676e........how difficult is it to have clear information on this at the officiel onkyo site and manuals.
@erredobble6 жыл бұрын
Just tested via google assistent and it also does work......didn't have to import a google home after all....how nice.
@OnkyoEU6 жыл бұрын
Hi and many thanks for your feedback: it seems there was just a misunderstanding regarding the use of Google Assistant with TX-NR676E. To clarify for other viewers: The Google Assistant does not work "on" the TX-NR676E, but it does work "with" the TX-NR676E. This means TX-NR676E is compatible with Google Assistant, but Google Assistant is not installed on TX-NR676E. To accept voice commands for the AV receiver, you will need a Google Home device or a smart phone/tablet running the Google Assistant App. We're glad to hear that issues seem to be sorted out now. Have a nice weekend and fun playing around with your new setup!
