Our NR838 is 6 months out of warranty and the video out stopped working. Talked with Onkyo tech support twice and all they can recommend is trying the factory reset and/or ask us how long the HDMI cables are. The HDMI cables are fine - took the Onkyo receiver out of the loop and the video passes from the components to the TV without issue. Thanks, Onkyo. You've lost another customer.

ONKYO USA Onkyo 838 may have support HDR? At some future update?

Got mine yesterday, awesome! The only thing is that compared to my previous TXNR636 it sounds less loud on the same Master Volume Level. It can reach Volume Level 100 compared to that TXNR636 that could only go up to 80, though. Other than this, it's great! :)

Confused about the atmos part of the onkyo tx-nr838. First do you need atmos content to use atmos setting like Blu-ray? Once you do the update for atmos on the onkyo do you lose the 7.1 and have to use 5.1.2? If you connect an lan to the onkyo will the onkyo automatically do updates given you no choice but to use the atmos?

Nice - but I am patiently awaiting Onkyo's release of a receiver with HDCP 2.2, 4K passthrough with up to 60Hz, AND up to 9.2 channels of audio! :-) Am I correct to expect a TX-NR939 that will be able to replace my TX-NR905? :-)

Same thing happened to me. audio stopped working so sent it in for repairs. 3 months later got it back. year later i hear a loud pop and look over to see flames coming out the top with smoke. call customer service and nothing. Then put on facebook and they said i would have to pay for labour. they would only cover parts. what the hell. i would rather spend 1000 dollars and buy a different brand than spend 100 and have it blow up again in 2 months

Big mistake to drop Audessey MultEQ :(

For a small room it isn't bad. My Denon in my theater uses Audessey to a great advantage. My TX-NR838 also uses it's technology in the living room and sounds good also. They dropped Audessey to be able to offer Atmos at a decent price. Just food for thought.
