It's a really good AV receiver. My family has has the 709 for about 4 years now and the only problem with it was actually the power supply. One day we tried powering it on and it immediately shut off. We called Onkyo and they fixed it for free. Otherwise, very good choice

Using 2 subs is a great idea, you will not overwhelm your room if you space and set them correctly, but it will enrich the bass and sound quality immensely.

I think the order of speaker outputs actually makes sense. Makes cable management a bit easier since you have the right cables on the right and the left cable on the left.

I've got a 646 in my entertainment room and it's served my VERY well. I imagine the 709 will do fantastic! Good to see you got one picked up, mate.

Thanks for lovingly going over all the "stuff" on your receiver. I bought my first AV receiver about 20 years ago. It was a much simpler affair than what you have. I guess mine was more of a glorified switch to route audio and video signals. LOL

Great video Tom. I can't say I'm surprised, I don't know how you coped with all of those switches and adapters but I always appreciated the fact that you made your setup your own. You've got an awesome receiver there. Those receivers are great for music too, your turntable will sound great on that phono stage, it suits your AT95 cartridge perfectly specs wise. Very much looking forward to part 3.

I have the same receiver as you have, bought it in 2011. Since then I've sent it in for repair once in 2014 where I had issues with it sound output and network card not working anymore. Onkyo return it to me fixed and after some time my main HDMI output failed. Unfortunately I was not able to send it back for repair, I don't remember the exact reason if I was or was not in the extended warranty time given by Onkyo till 2018. I currently use it with the second HDMI output, which works fine however the menu is not outputted on the second HDMI output, but it does show up on the LCD of the receiver. It's still a good piece of equipment and I still enjoy it for it s wide range of features. I do believe that the sound issue will come back as I've had times where I needed to turn off and on a few times before the sound would work again. So at this point it's just a matter of time before it fails again. I will be on the lookout for a repair shop that can work on it and perhaps fix it.

That's what I like about this channel, loads of interesting information about items that I may or may not need ! I have been getting by with a sound system that does the job but I had to replace the PSU on it recently which made me start considering other possibilities. I was looking for something purely for use with the PC that had options but kept ignoring AVR's because I didn't really understand the benefits. After watching this I can see that I really need to revise my opinions on them and take a closer look. Cheers Tom ;)

what port will the vga output through then? do you get a choice of composite or s-video?

Was just going to mention the HDMI problem , but you beat me to it :P I have had two of these, currently got the TX-NR515, which I don't think is all that different, I like its feature set, and the sound quality is superb. Before I had a different one the TX-SR606 (I think) and that had some kind of HDMI problem, although not sure if that was the same as this one. Mine manifested itself in that you couldn't get the setup menu on screen, the capacitors were replaced by my dad once on that board, but recently it seemed to fail again. Still Onkyo makes some great amps, and believe it or not were bought by Gibson guitars

Such a nice amplifier! I use a DAV-S550 amplifier like your old Samsung all in one amp you had, but I'm making the move to seperates.

Looks pretty good! I find the newer Onkyo receivers sound their price but have good features. I am a bit of a Yamaha fanboy though. I personally prefer the way they sound.

Hi There, I would need your help to set up my Onkyo TX NR 6100 brand new l got it as a gift 4 years ago and never got to use it. Still in the box. I would need your help to set it up with my Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Speakers that have both the input that comes from the amp and the output that goes to the cube speakers at the back of the sub. I have two sets of the Bose Acoustimass 3 Series IV Speakers and would like to use the front and rear speaker output of the TX NR 6100 like an integrated amp for playing music as well as watching my cinema. Thank you for your help.

This looks like a good AV amp so maybe you could ditch the phono leads and just use fibre optic cables to connect all AV equipment to each other which is what I have done and you get better signal quality, if you have XBOX360 then you do need a lead that has the SVGA connector which also has a TOSLINK connection so that could connect to your AV amp.

sweetness that is what it is but it is 7.2 two subs for this beast!
@RWL20125 жыл бұрын
"two subs" lol... "7.2" isn't part of the Dolby spec. It's just a marketing gimmick that means a built in RCA splitter on the subwoofer output. I had EIGHT subwoofers (if you count the drivers - two amplifiers, each powering a quad-driver sub box) on my 7.1 receiver and will have those same eight subs on my "7.2" receiver. only difference is the two amps will go straight in to the sub outs on the receiver and I won't need to use my RCA splitter anymore.

Onkyo really is top of the line if you want a home cinema!!!! :-) I'm saving for one as well. I currently use a Philips 686 stereo receiver from 1968, connected with an optical digital to analog stereo converter in between for my tv... Time for an upgrade for me i'd say :-P
