I was preparing to repair this amp after watching a video of an almost identical issue on the same model (Different channel) that was posted by NorCal715. However, during the preparation for recording one of the output transistors when POP!! and got incredibly toasty. Can it still be repaired or is it gone forever.

you should always check the bias pot for damage or oxidation which is the reason many amps fail in the 1st place. the pot gets "dirty" the bias goes way out, it overheats, but when there is pre drive damage always check because the carbon track on the bias pot might also be burned out. also check any small diodes and resistors in the zone or in series with power paths. Before you touch any of the bias pots you can check resistances from the legs, just see if they all show a division of the pots total value usually if the pot is 100 ohms it might be 30 ohms on one side and 70ohm on the other or 40 60 etc. if one side shows different reading way out from all the others you know it is dirty or blown. Once you know the history you can proceed to clean them and retest. Get the npn and pnp transistors the correct way around, keep them insulated from metal surfaces when necessary, sure you know all this though. Also check the speaker protection relay for low resistance see if it provided a consistent path each time it closes the contact, an old oxidised or burned contact can possible lead to arcing and amp failure.

Should the amp/psu section fuse(s) not have blown by this point?

How do you remove the main board with all those white ribbon power cable connectors and those other power connectors that have a wire wrapped around a pin I'm really struggling to repair one of these it's so frustrating, I'd like to get this board off and put the rest to the side while I fix the board

What fault do you have? My advice at this time is to buy any unrepairable Onkyo receiver from this era for £20 and start disassembling it. You will find the connectors are ridiculous in function and purpose, only yo find the wirse are soldered to the board also! The wafer this ribbon cables will pull out. You can then wipe and reseat - which can on occasion fix some faults. Removing boards on these awful receivers is labour and skill intensive because of the (deliberate?) way there are assembled. 90% of the faults with these receivers is 'no sound' and 'relay failure'. For the no sound problem there are tips online - including heating the DSP chip For 'flashing red light', 'wont turn on' from standby you will have to remove the main transformer - remove the multi core wires by carefully unclipping the awful white connector blocks as you go further. The raly can be bought for £3 - but fitting it is another matter. Iv been working on these units for 12 months and have never had the need to disassemble anything else but the main power brick - mainly because its just not worth the hassle. If its just for enthusiasm and a your hobby I apologise - read on.. I bought many of these as a learning curve hobby after my 605 failed (I cant remeber why) but I ended up repairing 2 x SR606, 3 x SR608, an SR609, an SR414 and an NR515 (which I am using at the moment) and Im waiting on another SR608 tomorrow which has wont turn on from standby. Get a beaten up one to tear down. The connectors are bizarre and of differing builds. Usually though you would find the 2 clips and push in whilst pulling etc

Hello. While Onkyo is restructuring globally, would you know from where one can source spare parts for Onkyo? I was looking for parts for the TX RZ1100 but not been able to get a response from any Onkyo support from Japan, Asia, Europe and USA! 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unfortunately I am unable to advise on your issue. You could always try NorCal715's channel, who specialises in Audio equipment repair. He helped me with advice on my amp and also provided schematics.

Hi Friend. Have you soldered in the new parts? I'm anxious to know if you repaired your amp.

I have not carried out the repair on this amplifier yet, It took me a long time to find all of the required components as my supplier kept pushing back their re-stock date. I have all the components that are required and will be filming the repair soon. Please subscribe and click the bell icon to be notified when the video is posted.

Hi, Well with a powersupply of 125V en 5A that will give a bang :D I am wondering if you have a dump (bin)file of the video flash EEprom of this receiver? It's Q8085 on the HDMI board. I have repaired the HDMI board of this receiver but it has no OSD or composite video which is caused by an empty eeprom. It would be much much appreciated

Unfortunately I do not have a dump of the EEPROM. You could perhaps message Norcal715(I make reference to him I. The video), he has also carried out the same/similar repair as this and is where I got the Inspiration to do this myself, he also provided me with schematics and service manuals. I am waiting for a few more parts to arrive and I will be videoing part 2 of this repair, if you want to see how it turns out and if it can be repaired then like and subscribe, I do out out a lot so you wont get a lot of notifications but every sub helps.
