Great flight, scenery and procedure Mathhew. Nicely done! Mountain flying is a whole different ball game, as if helicopter flying wasn't difficult enough. Plus the 'stress' of VATSIM.🙂 I like your video production and commentary as well, nice use of the Navigraph map to visualize what you will be doing. Looking forward to more of your (VATSIM) videos!

Wow, I very much appreciate your positive feedback! I would like to make a video about helicopter flying in mountains - maybe in the next few weeks? I'm also happy to know that any future VATSIM videos will have at least one enthusiastic viewer! 😂😂

@@matthew-lets-fly Ha ha, I'm sure it will get more viewers than just me! 🙂You don't see too many helicopters on VATSIM, let alone on KZbin, so it's good to inspire others this way. I'm particularly interested in seeing VFR procedures down in Australia and New Zealand to see how it compares to here in the Netherlands. I hopefully have some of my own VATSIM VFR helicopter flights to share soon.

I like your Vatsim flight, as I do the same with helicopters. this is really a great enlargement to realism in flightsimming. Ad a helicopter simmer you should fly the London heliroutes. This is fantastic. Having Heathrow tower on the radios…this is so cool.

Thanks for your positive feedback! I agree that the London heli-routes would be an interesting challenge. It's often very busy on VATSIM so I'm sure the stress level could be very high! 😂😂

At 7:40, when you comment on your climb rate, I believe you are getting into a leeward downdraft from the hill, given that you said you had wind coming from your right.
@matthew-lets-fly3 күн бұрын
That is such a great observation! Thank you so much for pointing that out. It was remarkably strong! And it's not the first time I've had such a strong downdraft effect. I'm really grateful for you offering such a persuasive explanation for that event! Do you have real-life experience??

@@galvedro Wonderful! I just watched your old XPlane 9 glider video - how fascinating it is to see old content like that! What do you think of gliders in MSFS 2024?

@@matthew-lets-fly I am pleasantly surprised by environment representation (updrafts, thermals, dowdrafts, turbulence, correlation with clouds, etc). Towing was bugged to the point of being unusable when the sim was released, but Asobo seems to have sorted that out already. The flight models I have tried have all issues at takeoff and landing: the DG1001 does not behave properly with brakes extended, making landings are very artificial. The LS8 is better, but ground effect is too weak for what I would expect. I think the experience is good overall, and that the current issues should be fixable.
@Griphos2 күн бұрын
I don't think it's a bug. I think you're experiencing rotors on the downslope side of that mountain. The wind travels up the mountain from your right, as you pointed out earlier, and as it cross over, it can turn into a strong downdraft. Mountain flying is very tricky!

Thank you so much! Indeed another viewer also pointed out this possibility so I’m very grateful to you both! I’d love to do a video on alpine flying because it has so many interesting challenges! 😀😀

I feel like I need a very big amount of collective to stay in hover, let alone taking off. Compared to the R66 that is. I guess the 66 is lighter but still I think the A-Star needs to much collective. Whats your opinion on this?
@matthew-lets-fly3 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your comment! Hovering is the most energy-intensive part of helicopter flight, so it's normal to use a lot of collective. In my view, in the MSFS 2024 R66, the collective comes on too quickly within the range of any controller, and so it feels too powerful and springs off the ground. The H125 seems more realistic to me. I think the default Cabri is also very good. I hope that helps? 😀

wow! That was awesome! I wish i could calibrate my controllers for that precision!

Ha! Thank you for that nice compliment!! I'm very self-critical so I'm always trying to do better. My controllers are now very old so I'm hoping I can start upgrading them this year. (I'll need a new chair first!). For you... have you tried lowering your sensitivity? I have -0.80 on the cyclic and pedal axes.

cars rendering in front of the dust...this sim needs lots of work.
@matthew-lets-fly3 күн бұрын
Yeah, if you look at my "better landings" video you can see some objects rendering from behind a hill! 😂 The cars in front of the dust seems like an easier fix than some of the other stuff. I do hope they can implement less dust when helicopters are at idle.
