Just curious what were the issues with this car that you didn’t buy it

Before I answer, I do want to emphasize something. The seller did point out the bad vinyl top in his listing, so he didn't hide the fact. The main issue (in addition to some smaller issues, which can all add up) was the vinyl top was damaged (he graciously includes a new vinyl top as part of the deal). On the way down to look at the car I researched vinyl top repair/replacement, and it is quite extensive and potentially expensive. ( the seller told me that the cost to install new top was $500, I believe). I should point out that if I had researched this issue before agreeing to go down, I wouldn't have agreed to meet the seller. But since I had agreed, I didn't want to renege. (On the other hand, I did want to see the car in person, to assess the extent of damage to the top.) In addition, if the vinyl is badly damaged, the metal underneath is susceptible to rust. I do realize that this car is about 40 years old, and I don't expect a 40 year old car to be perfect. If you are interested, and if you have mechanical skills, you might want to check it out. I’m not a mechanic, so I couldn’t have done the car any justice. Sorry for being loquacious.

Thank you. I enjoy your detailed explanations. I know rust and vinyl tops can be an issue. I had a 1983 Oldsmobile 98 that was about 10 years old when I bought it. At one point the top had to be replaced. Surprisingly I found the Oldsmobile/Cadillac dealer gave the least expensive bid. I love the 1980’s GM full size cars tho years later I had a 2002 Cadillac DTS and that was a Great car. I don’t own a car now as it is not practical for me in New York City as I cannot afford off street parking but I still enjoy looking

I guess I'm partial to the 1980's cars, too. That is the time when I left home, started driving, and bought my first car....I guess it's nostalgia. With the exception of my '91 Seville (which isn't running) I don't own a car either. In the meantime, I keep searching and window shopping.
