My mom made a deal with my dad if he quit smoking he could get a new car. One evening he came home with a New Yorker. It wasn't new but had been in the Chrysler executive program so looked like it just came off the showroom floor. It was black with red leather interior. It even had the moon roof option. The only time I got to drive it was to Prom. One thing's for sure, it made you feel like you were really someone special. I wish he would have kept it. @petermartinijr.10123 жыл бұрын
My father had the same car, you have no idea how comfortable this car was. When it comes to seating comfort, today's luxury cars can not compete with the American Luxury cars of the 1970's. Nothing and I mean nothing today, including a Rolls Royce, comes close to how comfortable luxury cars used to be.

@@petermartinijr.1012 My Father's Buick Electra with its massive velour seats was the most roomy, comfortable and SAFE feeling car I have ever been in. It was massive but didn't seem so at the time. It was just how cars were I thought at the time. The back seat was especially comfortable on long trips and more comfortable than any Limo I have ever been in with its blue velour upholstery. I like leather seats but this velour was so very comfortable both on really hot days because it was cool to the touch even on blazing hot days and cozy on cold winter days. I had a friend who's mother's BF had an imperial and we rode in the back many times and it too was an exceedingly nice place to be.

Thank goodness they don't. My Mom owned a dark green coupe BRAND new 1978 New Yorker Brougham with white top and green velour interior. Looked great. Total mechanical NIGHTMARE. Came with lean burn system that was horrible and on a good day, this log pusher would only get 7-8 mpg with premium fuel. To make that even funnier, the fuel tanks wee HUGE. This car reminds me of hers. Thing was, like this one, and hers, they would rust on the showroom floor brand new. .

His wife loved the Imperial so much she bought a 1977 New Yorker Brougham since they had discontinued the Imperial. They never had a lick of trouble with either of them. They always kept up with the scheduled maintenance. I've driven cars from Chrysler I kept them maintained. Never had a problem. In fact, I remember the one day in the winter of 1985 was so cold people on my block couldn't get their cars started. My 1981 LeBaron (slant six engine) started. My Father had one of these specially ordered from the Factory. Silver exterior and Red Interior. It was a 1977 which was basically the same except the front grill and different wheels. It was a four door car loaded with leather. Sadly though it was a lot of trouble. That Electronic lean burn system was the culprit. It only had 30k on it at 7 years of age and the Tranny started slipping. It was traded in for a 78 Mark V which was a good car but it started burning oil. The styles were much more individualized back then. I would say the Lincoln would have been more reliable because of Chryslers Financial problems back then..

I bought one new , and replaced the steering gear box 3 times. It failed all 3 times in left hand turns, and broke. Chrysler Corp replaced it twice under warranty. The third time, I replaced it with a gear box from a 74 Newport, and traded for a new Lincoln Mark 5. I've never gone back to Chrysler.
