If you asked someone "Should you trust a random stranger you never met and send them thousands of pounds?" everybody would say "Hello no.". But if you ask the same people "Should you trust the person you love?" they would say "Yes, of course.". Now unfortunately they fall in love way too quickly and they go: "I should trust the person I love and the person I love is this random stranger I've never met so... It's more than that. The scammer promises you that you'll get your money back when he gets home. You're roped in from the very beginning. Add to that that he contacts you morning, noon and night with frantic requests, and you're too exhausted to think straight. It's extortion -- if you don't send me more money, you'll never see any of your money again -- and as much as commenters here are laughing it off, extortion is a felony. So is fraud, misrepresenting oneself for monetary gain -- that one carries even higher criminal penalties.

This scam is even worse when it is your husband abroad saying he is in trouble and needing large amounts of money to get him home, only to find he has set himself up nicely in Thailand and left you and his children with nothing. In the same way as these poor women, the Police can do nothing because they have no jurisdiction outside Europe and no extradition partnerships with far and middle East countries. The majority of the targets are white women and the majority of these scanners are in West Africa. Even in the Caribbean, scammers target white women tourist because they are easily fooled into believing that these young men just must have them because they believe that they are the most desired of all women on the planet. I personally have watched these women get played when they go on vacation looking for that idea of "going Island". This has been going on for years, but now with the advent of social media the guys use them over the internet. In places like Kenya they are known as Muzugu. And the guys will go after them and will tell them anything they want to hear, and get them to give up all kinds of goodies

I think it’s often older people who fall for these scams because online dating didn’t exist at the time of their earlier relationships. Basic rules for online dating: Use it to break the ice by sharing basic details of each other and what you’re looking for. After the above has been done, propose meeting in person. If a meet doesn’t happen in a week or two, it probably never will.

For Christ sake, the lady in the film who is upset at the police for not flagging her account when she kept having so many financial transactions that she actually did herself sounded really pathetic! And how are you going call for a central authority to regulate online dating when the central authority should be innate common sense a person needs to use when a fool you’ve never met starts asking you for money. When you don’t take personal responsibility for your role in getting scammed, you’ll fail to learn the lesson because you think it’s every body else’s fault except yours for being so gullible, desperate and thirsty for attention and love. Learn to love yourself then you’ll never think you have to purchase someone else’s love to validate you. That’s exactly what these women were doing and that is trying to prove that they’re loveable and they were endeavoring to solidify their position with these creeps by giving them money. Just stop trying to be a paymaster to win a dudes affection and get some dignity about yourself this type of stuff won’t happen to you.

Thing is, scammers wil go to great lengths: forging documents, bank statements etc, editing videos of "themselves" but aren't. Bottom line is, if someone has huge assets as shown in these so-called documents, their bank will give them what they need because of those assets. They wouldn't go to a complete stranger to save them. Bottom line is don''t hand over your retirement savings to someone you've never met. So the website has written information on their site telling people not to go offline, and banks tell people it looks like a scam and people still go ahead. But people think someone else should have warned them? People who are adults have control over their own money - and willingly send money to people they have never met - yet think some other professional group should be spending time warning them - yet ignore warnings they are given anyway.

Yes, things are getting worse all over the world. Getting back to the psychopaths....one out of 100 sounds a high figure....but people confuse the terms psychopath with persons who MURDER (at the least) and move on to becoming MASS-MURDERERS, but this is incorrect. Most psychopaths do not become murderers, they just cause HAVOC in the lives of people around them and/or close to them - a psychopath cannot be changed - the only way to stay sane is to REMOVE yourself from the psychopath without ANY contact at all.

I still don't get this . . . how could anyone be so desperate for "love" that they would fall for this? Almost every case I've seen so far has been a middle aged (or older) woman, usually overweight, unattractive, living alone, and suddenly they find "Mr Right" on the website . . . the handsome, charming successful guy. And they all believe, without exception, that no matter how overweight, unattractive, or old they might be, the mythical Mr Right has suddenly fallen madly in love with them. Sorry, I just can't wrap my mind around this . . . this delusional fantasy these women have convinced themselves to believe in defies any comprehension. Horrible as it is, anyone this delusional is going to be easy prey for whatever sort of scam finds them. My only surprise here is that despite their obviously diminished mental capacity, they've actually managed to have sizable amounts of money . . . at least until Mr Right comes along. One of the women commentators here blathers on and on about how these men are completely detached from any emotions, their only goal is to get money . . . as if this was some sort of unimaginably rare circumstance. Seriously??? Maybe this is the problem here . . . these women project upon the surrounding world that everyone is completely overtaken by their emotions, just like they are, that this is the norm for everybody. That's yet another extension of their delusional fantasy world. No, the world does not work that way, and no, not everyone is so blindly immersed in needy emotions.

If you're over 40, female and have any type of money or a home... Just count your blessings and accept the natural scheme of things. and accept the FACT that no decent, normal, generous, ,kind, romantic, attractive, eligible guy is going to want you for anything besides your house, money or financial security. Thats ok. - It's not worth looking for " love" at this stage of your life. If you want "companionship" Ok.. fine, I get it but you don't want to become one of those neurotic smelly "dog mommies" or a crazy cat lady, then.. get a hobby.. travel, learn how to surf, kyak, ski, cook, sew, write a novel, take in a foster kid, home school your grandchildren, get involved in a food bank or volunteer at an animal shelter make a KZbin channel, get involved in community theater, or volunteer at an old folks home or go on a mission trip with your church, or volunteer work at the national Forrest or park system.... Pour your energy and funds into something worth while, useful and meaningful. If love comes, fine, great, whatever.. but don't go looking for anything like that. Find something more meaningful and it will all work out for you. There's nothing wrong with romance, but it's only when you're not looking for it that you'll ever find it. In the meantime.. Live...
