My daughter got given that gymnast Barbie doll and yes! Drives me absolutely bonkers that it doesn't have bendable arms and legs. I mean seriously what is the point? If the pop reveal dolls got articulation why didn't this one?

I use to just casually watch Barbie reveal stuff or just ignore it but recently I’m like really into all the color reveals and the pop reveals. So I ordered the rain coat one. I love that line. I really want the neon ones and the fruit ones.

I actually really like the dog with the Stacy go-cart because it’s a pug and I have a pug so I really want this set mostly because of the pug 😂 And I have the mermaid/unicorn Barbie which came out in 2020, she looks best in the mermaid look 😊 I had a feeling you’d be tempted by the Barbie dollhouse 😂 The little kitty condo is so adorable 🥰 I love how you thought this would be a shit-on-Barbie video and it’s mostly not 😂😂😄 For an answer on Chelsea, I know when I was very little, I loved pretending I could drive cars or go camping on my own so I would have loved a Chelsea camper set as a kid 😊

When I was a kid I would have loved that gymnast with no joints. I had a gymnast Barbie with joints and I struggled to dress her because I thought the knee and elbow joints were ugly. I would have to put her in pants and long sleeves. Luckily I've gotten over that aversion, since most dolls have lots of joints in this day and age.

I love that Stacie racer doll, I don't think we have it in the UK (in fact I don't think we have Stacie at all? The only sisters I see are Chelsea and Skipper) I haven't seen the new pop star either but I'm assuming we will get her since we got the last one (which was the first one you looked at with the holo skirt) - she is so adorable Also I so agree with you about every single Barbie playset having a dog regardless of whether it makes sense, I can just tell that some executive is looking at sales figures and mandating it

That was very fun! Personally, I loved the BMR1959 dolls; they weren't playing it safe and I loved them for it. Some of the Barbie fashion packs are pretty cute, but the quality is still pretty low - weird fabrics, no hem - blech

There as been so many newer Barbie playsets I wanted to buy so bad, but I don't because they come with a Barbie doll I don't want. I just want the playset for dolls I already have. But now Mattel is starting to make some playsets without a Barbie doll so that makes me happy!! I was able to get the Barbie Mini Foosball Table, Game Night Theme set. I love that it works and the dolls can play with it!! Taking photos of my dolls playing with it, is so much fun for me anyway. LOL The only thing I don't like in the set is it came with a dog, I love animals but my dolls are mostly Sailor Moon dolls and they don't have a dog in the show.

I think the reason why people are loving the Mini Barbie Land is that they use it for their dolls playing with dolls. You know how fearbook Twyla comes with a game she can play with. It's the same thing but with Barbie playing with a mini dolls that looks like her. Or like it's your Barbie dolls are collecting mini Barbie dolls. At least that's how I see it. I could be wrong.

I honestly think the online adult collector space has gotten a bit... out of hand with the hating on Barbie. Not saying there aren't a lot of crappy ones, but there's tons of crappy toys on the market full stop. Maybe if we were all angry because of the environmental impact, I'd agree, but it's only ever because they don't appeal to adult collectors, which like... yeah, the $7 doll with the painted on top and no articulation probably isn't going to. I don't see why they're worth even wasting breath on, let alone emotion! And on the other side of it, because the online space is so consumed with anger, it's missing a lot of these genuinely cute sets that are great for roleplay and dress-up, like you noticed! If Barbie was as horrendous as the online space would have you believe, we'd have seen Mattel straight-up retire the brand outright at this point. Truth is; they make genuinely good little playsets and roleplaying opportunities for that 4-8yo market. I'm glad you did some window shopping and got to see some examples of why Barbie is still on the market! It's good to see some enjoyment of the brand. :D

I think for me a lot of the frustration with Barbie is the lack of fun middle ground type dolls. Like I 100% understand there is a market for their lower budget releases, and then we have grossly overpriced collector dolls. But it feels like they’ve really struggled to make dolls that fill the sort of Barbie Extra niche, where they have nicer fashions and articulation. Imo, a lot of extras felt like they were designed with the younger audience in mind still, so the clothing frequently missed the mark or the accessories weren't appealing. Idk if that makes sense, but that's my take on it. Like when RH made their budget dolls it didn't bother me in the slightest because they still had nice $25-30 dolls, like they spanned the whole spectrum. Idk if anyone else would agree, but thats what I personally found to be lacking with Barbie Plus (I'm showing my age lol) I do think it's just hard to know what playline dolls were available when I was a kid and how cool they were compared to some of what is available now. That being said they have some releases coming out that I'm hoping will fill that void, and doing this video definitely proved that even without those on shelves yet Barbie has some cool stuff out, just takes a bit of effort to find sometimes haha

@@FaeryTaleDolls That's true that there isn't much middle ground! I really think Mattel mostly relies on other brands they own for that market (like Monster High) instead. And... I don't really blame them. I thought Extra was a pretty cool line but I'm part of the problem; I didn't buy any. I liked them from afar, but had no interest in owning them. This middle 8-13yo market is probably something they've decided just isn't feasible to chase after, and I get it. Especially since Rainbow High seems to have decided the same. (Last Barbie line I got was BMR1959. I thought it was extremely awesome, most excited I've been about Barbie maybe ever. I miss it!) I wouldn't worry about age haha, I think I'm roughly 3-5 years older than you! I get it. There were some sweet sets back then. But there was also a lot of garbage too, I think the decades make us forget that. Really my personal beef with all the garbage coming out now isn't so much that it's garbage (of course I'd prefer everything to be at the level of $40+ dolls all the time!), it's the quantity of it which I find very concerning from an environmental standpoint. Especially when toys are not expected to be handed down from grandparent to parent to child etc anymore. They're now manufactured like fast food, made to be disposable, and that's what I really have issues with. We could probably have our cake and eat it too, if the US toy industry hadn't turned itself into a wild arms race pumping out 100 dolls per single brand per year. Once upon a time, you tended to get one or two Barbies, and everything else was fashion packs and playsets to extend the longevity and play of the small number of dolls you had. Maybe if they slowed TF down and didn't have this insane schedule, as well as change the market culture of fast toy consumerism (which the companies themselves caused), they might actually be able to put some cash towards good fashion. 😅

I think the Barbie aisle has been AWFUL. But im old enough to remember when playline Barbie was amazing in the 90s and early 2000s. I wish I could travel back in time with my adult money and buy whatever I wanted. They seem to be on the right track now though. I love the Odille mermaids and Im so excited for the fairy thats going to come out soon.
