I was a math minor in college! As a major, you have already done so much more math than I ever did, though! I disagree about the goats and the doors, that you should always switch. Either that, or I need more explanation? Once the 1st goat is revealed, you have two closed doors and either a goat or car exists between each of them. They both have a 50/50 probability of either result, unless there is more information about the doors and goats and how they would be arranged (like if they are in an order or pattern). If you switch to the righthand door, you have a 1 in 2 chance of getting the car. If you reconsider and then once again choose the lefthand door, it also has a 1 in 2 chance of getting the car. Your odds improve with or without changing your choice. I’m trying to think of another real-life example that would illustrate this principle but I can’t without adding info where the outcome of one door affects or is correlated with the next (like the presidential election maybe? The way one states votes is correlated or even affects the way another state votes). Also, in your Q & A you described what made you finally get TikTok. Well, I might get TikTok because of this. I love the balance of funny and actual lecture

you have a 2 out of 3 chance of picking a goat in the beginning. the host’s reveal doesn’t change this initial probability. the host always reveals a goat, so if your first choice is a goat and you switch, you get the car. since you have a 2 / 3 probability of picking the goat initially, that means if you always switch you have a 2 / 3 chance of getting the car. if you want to find out more, search up the monty hall problem (as kyne mentioned), it’s a cool example of how our intuitions about probability, especially conditional probability, can be flawed.

The Goat/Door question is making my head spin. Isn't it still 50% chance of getting the car, since you show us where one of the goats are and allow us to switch, anyway? I understand this is a paradox, and I'm in no way trying to refute it, but I legitimately can't wrap my head around it. Yes, you start off with a 33,3...% chance of going home with a goat, but knowing that one of the other doors is a goat and is removed from the problem, don't you now have a 50% chance of getting that sweet car? I could've still unawarely landed on the goat on my first attempt and then switch to a goat after. Isn't it the same thing? My head

hi! you start off with a 66.7%, not 33.3%, of getting a goat, because 2 of the doors have a goat, and only 1 has a car and, if you pick a goat the first time, the host has to remove the other goat. so there will never be a scenario where in the second choice you switch from goat to goat also, your second choice (when there are two doors left) IS dependent on your first choice. for an example, let's say the car is always in door 3. 1. you pick door 1. it's a goat. door 2 gets removed. if you switch, you win 2. you pick door 2. it's a goat. door 1 gets removed. if you switch, you win 3. you pick door 3. it's a car. EITHER door 1 or 2 gets removed (it doesn't matter which one). if you switch, you lose so what this shows is 2 out of the 3 times, switching will lead to the car. the same logic would apply if the car were behind door 1 or 2. i hope this helps! :)
