It's a known fact that when you drop tiny parts they fall through the earth never to be seen again.LOL I tried everything from laying down sheets and working over old cooky sheets with a towel in the bottom to deaden the bounce. Kinda thinking evil spirits and not the drinking kind. LOL Take care you two great content as always.

I learned the importance of that spring working on older snowmobiles. It will not run without that silly spring. I see them on Briggs and Straton lawn mower carburetors under the diaphragm. Typical item . I learned a long time ago to work over a bench and have a towel under the carb to catch the bits that fall out.

That's partially why I don't take my carburetor off my equipment. I'd either loose a part, or have extra part's leftover, and end up taking it to a shop to be repaired. I stick to the basic repair's, like a tune up. Thanks!

It should also be noted that there is a small atmospheric vent into the pulse chamber under the pump diaphragm so the chamber with the spring doesn't fill with crankcase oil. This is the same concept as the small circular sintered bronze button on a hockey puck fuel pump to keep a slight flow of air through the pulse chamber keeping the crankcase oil in the engine.

I got tire of paying $50 to my Stihl dealer for just cleaning the carb on my weed eater and chain saw. You have two fuel filters but I lost the one in the carb as well as the spring. I finally ordered a new carb for $12 and installed it with perfect running results. Did not even have to get the special tool to adjust the idle and mix. I learned the hard way about living the tools through the winter with ethanol gas. Now, I have the DeWalt 60v chainsaw, blower and weedeater and do not have to spend nice days working on my Stihl. Further, I do not allow anything but premium gas (non ethanol) on my property or in my vehicles.

I never did carbs. But I know what a accumulator spring does. Same shape. It slows the 1st 2nd shift so mom does not feel it as much. So a bit like that. But I also have never seen a fuel pump on small engines. Now I know why. I just thought it was all gravity.

Steve, you started talking about "in and out" and I though April would make your face turn red again, but No. I want a remake with Sarah Wayne Callies. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 She wouldn't have missed the opportunity. 😝 But now I know why I've never seen one in a 2-stroke carb rebuild kit. And now I know I might find one if I ever have to work on or rebuild the 4-stroke carb in my Troy-Bilt Powerhead or my Pressure Washer. My Craftsman VTS DLS 3500 46" Deck tractor mower with a Briggs engine didn't have one. At least the original Nikki didn't, or at least I didn't see it. That could be the part that was lost. I replaced it with a Briggs OEM. I don't know about the Troy-Bilt Horse 46'' Deck tractor mower yet, but I may find out soon enough. It has a Kohler Courage SV470-SV620. I'm using the Craftsman while the Troy-Bilt is down for rust repair, but I like the Hydrostatic much better. Thanks, Steve and April. Another great one! Sorry my comments go on and on, but I like to share. I subscribed because I'm still learning and your channel is great.

I knew that but!! But now I can't recall seeing the spring in the last carb I rebuilt? The engine still is doing the same thing, fires up then acts like it is out of fuel. Exactly what it was doing before the rebuild though. It's on my boat, chevy inboard and I planned on going into it one more time this spring. Now I'll be looking for that spring under the diaphragm!

Wow!! now I really understand the diaphragm carbs more! Now I will think of them as a carb with a built in fuel pump which I never thought about them that way before. In fact I was kinda scared of them because everyone I tried to rebuild didn't seem to work. So I'd just buy new ones.

Oh my word, as soon as I feel one of the little springs fall from my hand, I know before it even hits the ground that I am already heading towards the scrap machine pile for another one, because there is absolutely no point looking for it on the floor, it's gone, lol. Same for the inlet needle spring on the metering side. I think those springs go meet up with the socks that go missing in the washing machine, wherever that secret place may be.

So a two stroke has a wee heartbeat, too cool. 😊 So without da spring a four stroke s heart fails and it dies. So if your diaphragm or spring fail your machine has in effect a heart attack and will die. No gas flow means no life. 😢 This some very interesting stuff indeed. I love the education you give us for free. Thanks so very much for your time and hard work.

I have yet to work on that carb. Is that the type of carb used on the "2/4" strokes? It is like the spring on the old Briggs motors under the diaphragm.
