I have their $70 CAN mini wheel and it also works well. Thank you so much for this review! Seeing an experienced potter use it gives me more confidence that it’s worth buying as a learning tool / intermediate towards buying an expensive model. 👍🏼

I don't have this exact wheel, but another inexpensive Amazon find that is almost identical. It's a great starter wheel, and I've used it since December 2021. I've successfully thrown 3-5 pound pieces, but I don't throw that heavy regularly. It's working just as well as it did from day one. Great starter wheel until I can afford a standard sized wheel! It's nice to see professional potters review these mini wheels. I think we all know what it's like, at some point in life or another, to not be able to shell out over $1,000 without hesitation. Great review, and keep on potting!!!❤

Hey! I did have one very similar. It was around $230 but is basically the same thing. Exact design. The problem I had was that the wheel had metal divots that tore my hands up. Also, the fact that I couldn’t use a bat or tiles was difficult. I have upgraded to an expensive wheel and it’s obviously much better. This small wheel was a great way to get started and realize how much I love throwing pottery. Love your videos. My boys and I are big fans! ❤

I was so afraid to buy one of these last year when I started pottery. I ended up buying a used Speedball Artista, and just recently upgraded to a new Pacifica GT800. Had this exact wheel and review been available back then, I would have felt a lot more comfortable buying it a cheap one. Word of warning to ya'll, be careful when buying used equipment. The Artista turned on and appeared to work fine at time of purchase but once I brought it home and started throwing on it, I then noticed something was off. Don't be a dummy like me, always test before buying! 😛

Thanks so much for the review. I make my living creating hand formed tiny ceramic vessels that hold essential oils and have always wanted to explore creating some on a wheel. I have researched tiny wheels and have found several highly rated ones that will cost me as much as a larger size wheel like this……so, I really appreciate your opinion and review,,,,,it really helped me decide this one will have more versatility. I love the smaller size of this wheel as my studio space is limited, and this one will store easily. I also love the fact that it has a foot pedal, an option the tiny wheels did not offer. All in all, you really helped me decide this wheel will probably be the best choice for my budget and my needs,,,,,thanks again!

I bought Vevor's largest wheel. It is taller, has a 14" wheel head, and a 450-watt motor. It cost about $100 more than the one you tested. I'm a beginner & it's been fine for my needs. If it wears out I'll consider upgrading to a pro brand, but until then this one is good. edit: Out of curiosity I decided to see if I could center 8 lbs. As I said I'm a beginner, so it was a bit of a struggle for me, but the wheel handled it fine. I'm sure an experienced potter could center well over 10 lbs on it.

I have one of these, I am a hobbiest potter, it works well for that purpose. It doesn't center as well as the wheel at the studio I go to. I also hate that there seems to be so little room around it the wheel that it is difficult to get things off the wheel sometimes, also the wheel is much smaller in size 9". I think its a great starter and I definitely want to upgrade one day but this one has helped me with wheel techniques and getting use to the wheel.

I’d love to know how to create firing schedules and picking clay to be able to fuse simple clay dishes in my current glass kilns. There are no videos on you tube that I have found that explain this process. - glass fusing kilns program at defined temps, not cones. I would love to learn how to create programs for clay as I love pottery but I want to make some little pottery items (mugs, figurines, plates) just for myself using my current kiln. I have a Jen Ken EZ PRO 15 6 and a 52” Olympic glass fusing and slumping kiln with a Bartlett RTC 1000 controller. Thanks a million. I hope you can help with my request. Much love to ya.

I bought a wheel that is very similar to this a year ago on Amazon. I was just starting out and didn’t want to invest in brand name wheel until I knew I’d be at it for a while. The only issue I’ve had with it is the plastic foot pedal. Sometimes it snaps down and won’t stop completely. And I cannot replace it because it’s hard wired. I’ve started looking at brand name wheels with more durable foot pedals but they’re so expensive for a very part time hobbyist.

I got into throwing in 2020. I was a ceramic sculptor before that. I'm disabled with left side weakness so I didn't know if I could throw especially with a foot pedal. So I got the shimpo aspire pottery wheel with a hand lever it was about $550 when I got it. It works great for me. My concern watching you throw is now light the wheel is. If I put to much pressure while throw will it knock over the whole wheel? My shimpo is small but the motor is good and it feels stable. I do wish I got a bigger wheel, because it turns out I love to throw. The bat pins on the aspire wheel aren't standard so it can be a pain to find bat etc. What ever wheel I get with have to have a hand lever.

You brought up a valid point in that you don’t know how long this will last. (And be honest , anyone starting up a teaching studio wouldn’t invest in these). This wheel is now closer to $180 online. I think if I was going to recommend a compact wheel to a beginner, i tell them to save their money and spend a few hundred dollars more instead on a Shimpo Aspire or Speedball Artista wheel. They are from reputable companies and will handle easily more than 2 pounds ( I have personally thrown 14 lbs on an Arista). The also will maintain they’re $$$ value should you ever need to sell them; can’t say the same for the Chinese knockoff. It’s better to get a wheel than you can grow into, than one you will outgrow quickly.

****************** Hi Jon - I bought this wheel - it came yesterday. Very cute, it acrually looks like it will work on a lower tabletop (for standing). I was wondering if yours has a wobble to the actual wheel "disk". Mine has a slight wobble which probably means it is unlevel - I haven't thrown on it yet because I was considering sending it back for this reason. However, if they all have a little wobble, I would just work with it - considering how cheap it was. You get what you pay for :/ Please let me know *************************** Thanks!

I have a similar wheel less than $200. I put it on a table so I can stand & throw. I've put as much as 10 lbs on it to throw off the hump. I was trained to throw on the wheelhead and wire it off, so I'm not missing batts. Anything that adds weight will slow it down. It definitely struggles with more weight and if clay is not wet. I switched to porcelain and it's 100% easier. My wheel will not do large plates, obviously the wheelhead is not large enough. As a beginner, I'm satisfied. As my skills grow, I'll consider moving up to a pro wheel if I make a profit.

These little China-wheels are showing up everywhere, though for the price, I guess you have to leverage your expectations as to longevity. I've read some long-ish term exposure issues with motors and bearing burning out, but it's likely going to put some pressure on the traditional wheel manufacturers 'cuz yeah, they're stupid cheap. Me being me, I just assume build one as I have belt, motors and pulleys laying around as a tinkerer does.
