Fun fact: white button mushrooms and portobello mushrooms are actually the same kind of mushroom at different stages of growth. I learnt that from Dr. Greger’s videos. Although I’ll admit that when cooking, I might buy them for different purposes, especially if I wanted to do something like a portobello steak or burger.

On the basis of a recent visit to UK (mostly Oxford) in June 2003, I'm able to make the comparison with suburban/rural Japan. At 200 yen to the pound, exchange calculation is basic mental arithmetic. The big bargain in Waitrose and other UK supermarkets is the cost of various types of cream. Single cream on your Corn Flakes, luxury. In common with Japanese supermarkets, the alcoholic beverage section is large and very sparely occupied. Only makes sense if the mark up is large. A relatively cheap yen and a strong pound means UK imports are expensive, but you can still get a 70cl bottle of benchmark Johnnie Walker Black for around 3,000 yen (Stg.15.00). Used to be 2,000 yen. Japan's a hard country to take sober; fortunately I don't have that problem. A 720cl bottle (glass not plastic) of South American wine will set you back Stg.1.50. Imagine Nanny State UK puts excessive sin tax duty on booze. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit Forty years and counting

Waitrose tend to reduce their items in stages throughout the day. Looks like you were a bit early for the bigger discount. I would say you need to go about 7pm for better discounts

when you look at the yellow sticker items they are still in most cases still more than buying in date items in other shops. Just because it is in a Luxury supermarket and hikes up the prices for items you can get in cheaper supermarkets. bet they all just come from the same farm or factory. so really the food standard is NO better. just that some people want to say they buy at a high class supermarket. potatoes 2kg £2 when you can get 2kg of potatoes for £1.29 at normal price or £1.15 for carrots that you can buy some for 45p. You can just go to a cheaper store and get all the yellow items cheaper as in date items spending £6.75 for meat when you can get 400g of steaks that are £3.50 in Asda so it is a waste of time, its not really a saving.

I think supermarkets but reduces items on during late morning, leave afternoon and late evening i.e more reduces meal deals at the time you went It looks like you got a bit more from m&s yellow stickers and the money off was better as well. I’ve been watching through videos from years ago recently (I’m on maternity leave so have a bit of time whilst babies sleeping for a good binge watch - 20 month old loves you guys and my 7 week old is so chilled when your on) I have just rewatched a video from 4 years ago of your branded vs unbranded challenge in Tesco and I’m wondering if you can redo the video (nothing wrong with the old one) I’m just curious to see the price difference now compared to 4 nearly 5 years ago (video from 4th July 2019) to see how covid/ cost of living has effected everything like food prices and the comparison of the two in general as well as the comparison to the video all then years back may be shocking! Fact: In Waitrose, they often do the yellow stickers for even stuff expire few days later. The good thing is you can buy stuff you need for cheaper price and still not expired, but it could be pretty pricey, so the yellow sticker stuff on the dedicated area is the cheapest( which that shelf has say 'Too Good To Waste'
