Make some adjustments so hitting the heavy bag becomes a better use of training time.

Back in the day, we used to hit a large swinging bag, especially with kicks, like the side kick. Sooner or later if you didn't watch the swinging bag, it would hit you harder than you hit it, lol

fyi, I have a 6ft tall muay thai heavy bag, I duct taped a pool noodle to the area where the opponetns arms are, to simulate opponent holding his arms up great for practicing slips and ducking under the noodle as youre coming in for a jab/cross, very simple and cheap method. The pool noodle is in a U shape around the bag, resembling outstretched arms

I converted a small bag into a heavy bag by switching the internals and hanging a 50 lb sandbag from the bottom. I also made a rudimentary face out of a square sandbag, giving me a chin to target with uppercut and kick variations. It's awesome

I did the same thing, but with a short pool noodle somewhere else... for groin strikes.

I literally JUST hung up my punching bag and did a big deep clean of my garage with my dad that we've been planning for months because the bag was just collecting dust on the floor. Definitely great timing for this video to come out. TY GABRIEL! ✌✌

Let it swing ! Move, hit, block, counter. I honestly couldnt explain why I hang mine in a tree. Very good video and explanation of those fundamentals.

hello champ! Have you ever done a video on cutting the ring? Meaning manoeuvring your opponent into the position you want them to be, for example in the corner, or back against the ropes.

Wow, this video was perfect timing for me, purely because I was just hitting the bag yesterday at the gym and my coach complimented I hit it very smart and he showed me to improve strength to go two light shots and then full power and because I was using defense on the bag Gabriel and wanted to see if you would say the same when doing bagwork and it turned out exactly the way I do bagwork and an amazing video as always Gabriel! 🎉

Injury warning! This happened to me! If you are punching a bag which can swing and you are using 80-100% power, be very careful about punch placement and timing! I punched at a bag swinging towards me with a cross and my strike was left of center and I ended up slightly hyper extending my right elbow. It hurt like a bitch and I had to take a break. I felt the pain for a good 2 days afterwards. One other thing to try with bags: punch without gloves! Gloves protect your hand too much and can teach you bad technique. Are you making a fist properly? Are you keeping your wrist straight when punching? Are you punching too hard? Are your strikes straight or glancing? I've been doing bag rounds in the last few weeks with just hand wraps. The purpose of the hand wraps is to just prevent skinning my knuckles and fingers. Punching bare handed teaches you really quickly how to not hurt your hands when you throw a punch. My latest lesson has been that I am throwing my jabs wrong, such that my ring and middle proximal joints are making the contact (and getting skinned) rather than my pointer and middle finger knuckles. I'd never have known this from just using gloves.

You might want to suggest using a mouthpiece. I grit alot when using power shots. I had a few broken teeth because of it. It might also force you to use your nose for breathing.

HI Gabe, I got a question for you! How hard do you normally throw during fights? I tense up a lot trying to throw hard and I feel like it really slows me down + fatigues me, do you have any insight on that?
@demetridellas4336
@demetridellas4336 4 ай бұрын
Sounds like a technique/form issue. In general, try to be more loose, breathe with your shots, focus on speed during retraction as well as extension over just raw power. But if it's specific strikes say an overhand vs a rear roundhouse they might feel slow and tense for different reasons and require different solutions

try this. get a karate breaking 'board', the equivalent of a 1x12x12" pine board. Drill two holes in one side, suspending the board by a string, grain running horizontally, jump up in the air and break the board will you're in the air, with forefist, another with backfist, another with knife hand another with ridgehand.. If you can do so, your hand conditioning and speed of striking are where they should be. i"m 71 and can still do all but the backfist. I dont condition my knuckles enough for that one anymore. Since I turned 60 or so, I"ve not been able to do these things with my left arm/hand.
