Your answer is wrong. First, this problem is far from difficult, anyone without much algebra skills could actually trial and error solve this within a minute. Second, you don't need the quadratic formula to factor this. Third, you did not factor correctly, your factors should be (y-16)(y+15). From this we know that only y=16 makes sense as it will be a positive number. From there, we know that 2^4 equals 16, thus x=4. We can prove this with the original equation; 4^4 - 2^4 = 240 256 - 16 = 240 240-240 Voila
