00:00 Hello Everyone!
The 2022 FTX Crypto Cup sees Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, Hans Niemann and Praggnanandhaa gather in the Eden Roc Miami Beach Hotel in Miami, Florida for the 2nd Major on the $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. $210,000 and a $100,000 Bitcoin bonus is at stake in the 7-round all-play-all tournament. Each match consists of 4 rapid games on the chess24 Playzone, with the winner earning $7,500 (3 points). If the match is tied there's a blitz tiebreak, with 2 blitz games followed, if needed, by a single Armageddon game. The winner earns $5,000 (2 points) and the loser $2,500 (1).
For each rapid game the players have 15 minutes for all their moves, with a 10-second increment after each move. For blitz games it's 5 minutes and a 3-second increment, while for the Armageddon game White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. Official website: chess24.com/tour

You need a queen when you're sexually active however! I wonder, is Magnus still with a girl? It might explain his decision to forgo the WC match. Maybe he doesn't need the stress of a WC match with little financial payoff and just wants to chill with his partner? You notice most of the super GMs have no partner, no social life it seems, maybe Giri being the only exception and some lower ranked GMs who have relationships.

Already watched a lot of Magnus playing while commentating, and he gives off the impression that he didn't think much and more on instinct (he played countless of games after all). Although those are with faster time control and not tournaments. So he most probably analyze positions by intuition and calculate very deeply when he thinks he needs to think more. Whether it be intuition or active calculation, it is indeed an amazing sight tho.

@ti2835
@ti2835 Жыл бұрын
It is a blunder because then you give Levon's Queen a chance to defend from d6 and capturing the rook is a further blunder because after Qxd7, white is going to lose all the pawns in the middle of the board and black will stabilize. I myself was looking at Ng4, because it's flashier, but Stockfish still calls it a blunder (-0.98)

10:30 what about Nd7? He has to save the queen and protect the rook Then we capture on e8, if he capture back, Nf6 wins the queen, otherwise we're up a rook. How is than not better than Ne4 going to an endgame?

this took me a bit but if you play Nd7 black has Qf7 and if you capture on e8 white can force a perpetual by Qxe5
@EvertfromNederland
@EvertfromNederland Жыл бұрын
@ 10:35 Man, i really really thought the winning move to make was Nd7 threatening both the queen and the rook. If the queen moves anywhere you capture with Re3xRe8. If the queen captures back you got a fork with Nf6+. Aronian obviously won't fall for the fork so he will just exchange his rook for your Knight. So after Nd7 black's queen probably moves to like g7 or d6. White takes on e8 regardless and black captures white's knight, so white can retreat his rook to t e3 or all the way back, but then that whole repetition of moves doesn't happen because white has 2 rooks to defend his position yet white's mate threats are still alive once he moves his other knight. I must be deadwrong sinse this is not what they did.
@adewilyan8030
@adewilyan8030 Жыл бұрын
You're correct, the continuation after white rook retreat will probably be queen takes pawn on d file with check, g rook have to block it and knight takes f pawn while threaten to capture the pinned rook. All of sudden blacks the one winning here, black queen against a rook and a knight but up 2 pawns.
@EvertfromNederland
@EvertfromNederland Жыл бұрын
@@adewilyan8030 You know what i thought when blacks queen takes d5+? White could block it with his g knight. with Ne4. sacrificing it, but the pawn has to take so black will block his own queen so then white can counterattack with Nf6+, forking the queen because that is still on the d5 square! so black can not take the d5 pawn, but has to take the Knight on d7 first. If black takes Qxd7 white can leave the rook on e8 as a trap and move the g knight to h5. If black takes the rook on e8 with Qxe8, White has again the same fork with Nf6+. That is wishful thinking because a grandmaster will see this ofcourse and play Qxd5+ after Nh5 and not take the e8 rook, but it's a cute trap and black has to be careful and not get gready.
@adewilyan8030
@adewilyan8030 Жыл бұрын
@@EvertfromNederland Now I'm legit confused. You know tht I meant it as continuation of the lines you mentioned right? Right after the rook on e8 has to retreat back because black queen still threaten to capture it. Also there's no Nf6 nomore that knight is dead on the exchange for black rook.
@EvertfromNederland
@EvertfromNederland Жыл бұрын
@@adewilyan8030 what i meant to illustrate is that black has to be careful because there are gambits and traps for white. It can go as followed: Nd7 Qd6. Re3xRe8 Qxd7 (our line which we where talking about). And instead of retreating the rook to the backline, white gambits it and moves the knight on the g file to h5. If black continues to capture on e8 with Qxe8. Then the knight on h5 can fork with Nf6+. It's probably way to dubious for white on that ELO level, but with short time those forks are easy to miss. The other line i meant is where the queen doesn't immediately take the knight on d7, but decides to take the pawn on d5 with check first: Nd7 Qd6. Re3xRe8 Qxd5+. Ne4 (blocks the queen) f5xNe4 (pawn blocks his own queen). In this case the knight on d7 is still there and can move to f6+ and forks blacks queen All in all dubious lines which are probably not the best and probably why i would play them :D
@adewilyan8030
@adewilyan8030 Жыл бұрын
@@EvertfromNederland but that is the problem, he cant afford to lose d5 pawn with check. Nd7 Qd6 Re3xRe8 Qxd7 Nh5 Qxd5 Rg2 Qd1 Rook has to block again and the knight on h5 will fall aswell. He probably seen it since it's pretty straightforward and forcing line.

@Puschit1

Well, let's not forget that this ended in a draw with Magnus playing white. It is only an overall loss for Levon because he needed a win for this game. A draw with the black pieces is considered "win" among supergrandmasters in a tournament setting. So, Levon wasn't really "helpless" here, if it wasn't for the initial loss you might be praising him now for defending well and you would probably say about Magnus he shouldn't have sacrificed the queen in a position like that.
@rohangeorge712
@rohangeorge712 Жыл бұрын
@@Puschit1 sacrificing the queen was still a good move, probably not the most optimal move or best move he had, but he probably had an idea with that, he still wants to win the game. he just made a mistake in the end when he didnt find the right knight move. he was controlling the game, a queen isnt always necessary. its not points or material that matters, its positional advantage. magnus had that until he messed up, and it ended up in a smart draw which levon found. but it didnt matter cause levon had to win. i feel like magnus wasnt playing at his absolute best probably cause he knew he just needed to draw. less pressure ig, probably didnt calculate at his best.

4:48 just look at the material on this board..yes, Aronians pawn structure is ruined but he has 1 extra queen vs 1 extra pawn & knight. I'm just an amateur but it still amazez me that Aronian was not able to get a win here. Makes me think Carlsen is 300 chess points better than Aronian, not 30!

What are you suggesting he does? If he can't find a win and drawing/losing results in the same thing then drawing is his best option. As soon as he stops putting Magnus in check and lets him move any of his pieces the game is losing.
