Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama just faced off for the second time in an epic battle between an offensive GOAT and a defensive prodigy. As happened the first time they met, the Denver Nuggets got the better of the San Antonio Spurs - so how did Jokic find an answer for Wemby that no one else can?

Remarkable comment by Pop on whether he has Wemby study tape of Jokic. His answer was no because he said 'no one can do what Jokic does. He's a one off.' He does have Wemby study tape of Jordan and LeBron. Has there ever been a greater compliment to a player by a great coach? He compared Jokic favorably to Bird 3 or 4 years ago and was ridiculed. Turns out he may have understated things. I like Darvin Ham's name for Joker. He calls him 'Dirk McBird.' A combo of Nowitzki, Kevin McHale and Bird.

@@cosmicrealm1567 why wasting your knees on dunks when you can dominate everyone on the ground? Just look how many games was Jokic injured in his career? 43 games missed in 9 years. @@cosmicrealm1567 yeah. I appreciate that. But, he makes everyone in the league look sick. Think of the most "skilled" or athletically powerful guys. The prototypes might be Kyrie or Giannis or Shai or Anthony Edwards or, at the five spot, Embiid. However, to paraphrase Red Auerbach: if I were starting to build a team, my first choice from the pool of NBA players would still be Joker. I am a fan (former fan actually because I hate the product nowadays) who thinks that basketball is a team sport and the intelligence is what makes it fun to watch. Why expend needless energy with a monster posterizing dunk when you can make a beautiful pass and make your teammates happy, make the game easy and make your opponents look clueless? Maybe it comes from me being average weight and strength and playing forward at 5-9 and needing every fake in the book to get my own game viable. I never saw that as unathletic. I always thought of it as using what god gave you in the max athletic way possible.

Without the height hw doesn't beat his defender in most of these situations ('not taking anything away) but if he wasn't as tall as he is he wouldn't be a low post juggernaut, he'd be Like luka, who is also unthlethic but makes up for it due to his euro basketball backgrond. I understand jumping to conclusions is usually bad, but Jokic is the best offensive player ever. He has a super strong argument as the best passer ever, and in recent years he has established himself as one of the best SCORERS ever. Neither of these attributes rely on luck, he is clutch and his passing has a natural flow in the game, nothing he does can be shut down. Did I mention hes also an incredible screener, communicator, and rebounder? His only weakness is bigger or stronger guys competing with him, he struggles a little when he cant feast on players that are the same size or smaller. Basically any time the other team has the physical advantages to bother him (need at least 2 players large enough), it can be a problem for him because he cant activate his scoring game as well, and those big bodies can catch some of his overhead passes. This is only on an individual level though, the best way to stop him from winning is take his teammates off their A game, which he is REALLY good at maintaining

@@cupiddstunt well by weakness i mean an element of his offense that can be exploited to some degree, and victor isnt a prime example of this, he is not strong. If victor has another guy to slow down Jokic, he would have a much larger impact (like Howard and AD in 2020). Basically it has to be a team effort to slow down 1 guy
@cupiddstunt
@cupiddstunt 2 ай бұрын
@@nigralph Yep but when you double up on him he sucks you in then he lays it off to others thus negating that tactic. So in turn making that ”weakness” a strength. No one yet has really been able to find a “weakness” in his game that is exploitable the whole game. Which is in itself maybe the issue, instead of looking for any perceived weakness in his game people need to raise their own game to compete. And that is their weakness not being able to raise their game enough. He is a problem.

@@logomarkz Yep that’s a decades old concept that you stop the support players you then stop the game plan, as one player cannot score enough points to beat a team all on their own. It was tried against Jordan amongst others, let him score stop the rest. It did have limited success, but very limited. If you’re a Nuggets fan then fortunately, the rest of the NBA unfortunately Jokers game is not one that can actually be stopped in any really meaningful way. As long as there is a moving player the Joker will find them. The only way I see them being ”stopped” is simple, just outscore them, they play a spread the floor constant movement game so how do you stop that. Since he came into the league the opposition has been searching for an answer and not found one yet.

His awareness is something I have never seen imo I think he's reading people and knows when someone is going left or right or blocking. Kinda like a mentalist basketball player. He is envisions these plays he anticipates and is almost always right.

i havent followed the nba in 25 years but the way jokic plays makes it interesting to see these videos about him. it reveals there are much more significant intangible things going on besides scoring and rebounding, that was hidden from me before, partly because i don't know basketball well. but also someone wasn't this skilled at them for it to be apparent imo. anyway

Let's not give Wemby any all-time accolades just yet, guys. He is in the middle of this rookie season. That being said, he is a problem for offenses and is changing the game. Let's just see how he adjusts to the inevitable adjustments pro offenses will be making before we give him any HoF votes.

Jokic is Jokic, no comparison, YET for Wemby. I have been going to games here in San Antonio for years as a season ticket holder and from the start of the season until now that 20 year old Wemby has grown a lot as a NBA player. He already had experience as a EU player in which I have played against the Germans when stationed in Germany and it is much tougher in Europe. So with that said, do not compare to Wemby yet it is his first year. Put on weight and more experience and by the age 23 and a good guard to get him the ball when he is open, it will not be the same…. Jokic will still probably light him up but boy, I can’t wait to see it a few years from now when these 2 meet.

Wembanyama has an amazing future ahead of him if he remains healthy. Being agile while being the tallest player in the league doesn’t hurt. Saying he is the greatest shot blocker ever is questionable. Shot blocking stats were not kept until the 73/74 season. He very well may be the greatest though if again he remains healthy. The punishment of an 82 game season can be hard on players and few big men have held up for a long career. Let’s wish him the best.

Good video! Only one small beef: that play shown twice & Joker's speed was emphasized when lumbering in w/a running start from beyond the arc: it was SLOW. Not even fast for him-Joker can be surprisingly agile for a spin move or 1-2 steps, but like with umping, he just does not have the fast-twitch muscle fibers to run quickly or jump high. He is the opposite of Shaq, who at even HEAVIER had the NBA record by touching 12'5". Does not matter-he is daaaaa-best.

It's insane that a player that's almost 7 ft. tall has to create space to get off a shot. What's not insane is that same player using his bulk to push around the much taller player who needs to figure out how to bulk up.

You know you’ve arrived (Wemby) when you played arguably the league’s best player as a ROOKIE, and there’s videos analyzing how the best player got the better of the rookie’s defense. Think about it, we don’t drop videos or talk about…Jaime Jacquez getting taken to school. But Wemby has been such a force, when he gets taken to school…it’s NEWS. It’s a segment on ESPN and talked about by the sports journalists and online on social media. Thats the attention already Wemby gets as a rookie. He has the makings to actually be a top 5 player ever if he stays healthy and wins some rings.

Just don’t get what the Spurs defensive plan is here…if you want Wemby to be a help defender why not put another player on Jokic when he’s on the perimeter and let Wemby clean up…him defending the perimeter and playing and helping is gonna leave him susceptible to drives from close outs and wide open 3s
