Malapascua Island is one of my favorite destinations in the Philippines! :) I made my first trip there in 2007 when there were really only 3 dive shops there. Amazing what it's become! Kokay's is great and I really love the breakfast there :) Also try Angelina's for great Italian food and check out the food at Craic House at the Evolution Dive Resort. I'm visiting the Philippines again in December for 4 weeks and I know I'll be going to Malapascua :)

As there are men and women who dare explore the outer space - like the astronauts - there are also men and women who dare explore the undersea. What is the difference is that under the seas there are living creatures that could jeopardize their adventures. Mysterious? both places are, but with the undersea experience, each one has to be on their own finding answers to the mysteries they find. Astronauts always explore in a group unless one goes out of the space ship to do a spacewalk. You Finn and Shirlyn are really destined to find each other for this purpose - finding answers to the mysteries of the underseas. Just had my open water and advanced open water done simultaneously there. Was lucky to see plenty of thresher sharks circling us...felt like about 10 of them..they are cute as puppies like my dive instructor described them. Wanted to focus on my skills first but the next time I go, I'd take some nice videos too. It is an amazing experience

I love also how the locals protect the island..no fishing within a cartain peremiter and no Net fishing allowed..I remember when de were there and every early morning on weekdays the roosters never failed to woke us up..then one day all of a sudden ,the noise stopped.later i gathered that there had been a cock fight the day prior and so many fighting roosters lost and died during the fight....peaceful sleep afterwards.

I was there in the late 90s when there was only one bar, a pizza place and a couple of informal restaurants and accommodations but even then there were already a few diving schools. There was also a local village inland.

Too cool for words! So jealous of the Thresher sighting. The first time I visited the Philippines we went scuba diving in Moalboal at Pescador Island. When we came back from the diving one of the instructors told us about another diver that went with them to the back of the island to an underwater cave to look for a thresher shark that lived there to record with their underwater camera. I had no idea the tail was that long.
