Cheers Mark very informative. I had noticed the best went to the side and not above the head but never fully understood why. I can imagine it takes some practice but the benefits are obvious now so will give it a go. Cheers pal.

I always used the rod above, as you said, so that I get a few turns on the reel whilst settling the tip so that if the fish bolts I have those coils on the reel before the line hits the stop. Must admit that Shakespeare used to make some wonderful rods, but I had one snap on me on the cast once. Never bought another, but the SKP B1 2.25lbs rod looks tasty for the river and barbel!

Love your videos. I guess this could work on medium paced rivers? Cast and take the rod back or to the side, feeder lands, drop rod in rest and the feeder should drop same place every time with a small bow in the line? ATB MMMD

Badge snobbery has always followed Shakespeare rods and reels, I still use some from the’90s and they perform as well as any of the rods I have since purchased from other brands when I had a spell of “upgrading “ and usually when I revert back to my “shakers” the adverse comments I get from fellow club members!!!, none of whom have ever even handled a Shakespeare rod, i know this as I’ve always asked whenever they give such a negative attitude. On a more positive note if anyone struggles with that way of casting, and it is difficult to master try using a sidewinder type of bite indicator, it’s not suitable for a tip rod but can be used on an Avon type rod or even a standard float rod (any brand!!!) and you simply point said rod directly at the intended spot and assuming you are “clipped up “ similarly to the video all you do when the feeder/lead hits the clip simply put the rod down on the rest- the rest is best set up straight ahead- and bingo! Correct presentation and a tight line to the feeder/lead and bite’s can be “read” immediately as in the way the tip in the video can be done so, no more skills required than an ability to cast in a straight line to the clip

Ohhhh not so many 8ft rods around...value for money take a look at the Nitro Impax all-rounder/ or a tad more expensive is Free Spirit's 8ft CTX Short Range Feeder which is a really nice rod.
