Dude I use crappy enchanted gold armor for 50% of the playthrough so you dont have to worry that much.

You can also use dreadsteel armor as you main one and dragonsteel as cosmetic ( the little chestplate icon on the bottom right of your character). Cosmetic doesn't lose durability and you can look like you wearing dragonsteel but still have the stats of dreadsteel.
