to add to the start, I also spotted unreal default font text placed in the map, and the whole player controller _seems_ to be using the free Advanced Locomotion System template that just gives you a realistic player controller to start with, that comes with these parkour mechanics

Corporations do often make bad decisions a lot. This is Indie, but most of the time Indie developers are passionate about delivering a great product. In this case though, yeah, it sucks cause they are trying to fill their pockets instead of delivering a great game.I can't say that all game devs make bad decisions though, just because they're some developers that are genuinely passionate about their work

You’re assuming it’s promotional, but the game doesn’t link to NFTs the company’s twitter doesn’t, and neither does the youtube channel linked on the twitter page. The NFTs are also plastered all over what’s supposed to be a slum. They could just as easily be making fun of NFTs saying that they’re garbage. There’s also nothing in the game that points to them being NFTs, if this is supposed to be promotional it’s one of the worst I’ve ever seen

It doesn't really matter if no one who plays the game even notices the NFTs. Goblintown shills/devs can point to this game and say "hey, look at how popular our NFTs are getting", and convince existing shareholders to continue support, or even buy more because they think the price will go up. That's where the real money is. This principle applies to most advertising nowadays, actually. Look up "enshittification". The unfortunate reality is that shareholders alone are the bottom line for most companies.

As someone who has been successfully trading NFTs for 18 months (cue the down votes) I can tell you that no one in the NFT world [actually] cared that one of the creators behind Goblintown was behind this game. A few content creators started to cover the fact that the game was going viral on streaming platforms and has "Goblintown" written on the walls, which caused a brief 24 hour 2.5x pump in the floor price (from 0.2eth to 0.5eth) however it has returned to it's previous price. Goblintown: That collection in particular was a free mint which pumped to 9eth (the market does crazy things sometimes) and yes, anyone who bought the top is down 99%. While the team didn't make money from the initial mint, they did keep some NFTs for themselves, which I'm sure they sold, and they made millions in royalties. Hating NFTs: It's popular opinion to hate on crypto and NFTs, but most people don't understand anything about them (which I believe is one of the reasons they hate them). I 100% agree that there are a ton of scams in crypto and NFTs, but denying the technology would be equivalent to saying programming is bad because hackers use it to hurt people. If anyone reading this spent time researching the use cases of blockchain and tokenization, in my opinion they would understand that it's the future (I'm not saying buying a $100k monkey picture is the future, I'm saying the underlying technology is). As for the argument that "it's bad because it promotes NFTs", the creator of the game is part of Goblintown. It's only normal they will want to promote their brand. Most modern entertainment promotes products. You pretty much have to stop consuming any form of media to avoid that. I personally don't understand the level of hate the gaming world has for NFTs. Why are they willing to spend thousands of dollars on in-game items, skins, loot boxes, season passes, etc, only to lose all those items when the next iteration of the game comes out and the publisher stops supporting the servers, but buying NFTs is somehow ludicrous? I remember watching the Penguinz0 video about Dookie Dash (an NFT mini game for BAYC) and he was bashing NFTs, but he has framed Pokemon cards on his wall that probably sell for thousands of dollars (and you can argue are only worth pennies, as that's what it costs to make them). Would love to learn why you disagree with anything I said and congratulations on the success of your channel!

I didn't have any idea who goblintown was before I played this game a week ago, I do now because it's in every corner of the map + front and back printed on your character. And I can assure you that this art isn't just meant to "add color to the monotonous surfaces". Goblintown themselves are now selling physical merchandise of Only Up, alongside their NFTs. They have very clear ties in this game.

It's not that bad and it is a choice, but the devs knew what they were doing when they made so many of the pictures NFTs, especially the main character, it is an ad, just only executed for the people interested in the art work which leads them down the rabbit hole that is NFTs which might catch them, I'd say it's kinda scummy but at the same time it's better than it being an ingame shop where you can buy NFTs or something lmao, so it's whatever to me personally and it's the individuals choice at the end of the day

I would like to see some evidence that the developer intentionally picked these images because they have stake in the NFTs and didn't just randomly find them online like every other asset they used, some of which they didn't even have the right to.
