There's a timer error in this video. Somehow I lost around an hour of time at 29:13. I've reviewed the footage and the timer resets between league attempts and then plays consistently until the end. I'll give an update on Yanma's actual finish time when I discuss the tier list in the next video!

Fun facts about dragon flies - they have 360 degree eyes that see everything - they're able to predict where their prey is going to capture them - they can fly at speeds of 50km/h - they catch 95% of the prey they hunt - they can carry double their weight This might just be one of the single deadliest insect pokémon.

Yanma is one of those Pokémon that they decided to make its learnset completely based on what it looks like it can do. Unfortunately for Yanma, very few moves existed at the time that it looked like that it could do. It's just a little bug with wings. They were so generous in crystal giving it wing attack, a move that birds with feathers usually use. Yanma has no feathers so it shouldn't be allowed to learn it!

I feel like you could have made this run a lot easier, if you just made Yanma have hidden power ground. Bug STAB really only gives you an advantage over psychic and dark types. Wing attack is the superior STAB move. Ground coverage would have been easier against all the ghosts, rocks and steels you struggled with. Edit: I see you mentioned this problem. As you stated, considering Aerodactyl ice would have been a fine choice as well.

Just in case anyone was wondering, Yanma and Yanmega aren't dragon types because "dragonfly" is a european name for them. Dragonflies have a lot of cultural importance, especially in ancient japan, which is why it's in Johto. Yanma's kind of just a fancy dex filler, but it's a dragonfly wearing pilot goggles. What more could you want!
@p.zansei32803 жыл бұрын
[30:20] oh wow, thank goodness you made this realization right before I got to point it out! Chapeau, butterfree-man! I'm very much liking that you're giving some more room for off the cuff talk, your pitch is a little higher when reading off script and it's a joy to hear your natural voice, not sure why but it's a breath of fresh air. Glad you're owning it! I will also point out, Scott - a major issue I sense you had to deal with was having Double Team in Yanma's moveset - not because you used it but because all the dilemma around using it. See, while dictating early on that it's fair game because it's in the LVup moveset, and even keeping it for when needed, adamantly refusing to make use of it despite this decision meant that for the entore first half of the run, it was a handicap as a semi-wasted move slot. You had numerous opportunities to try other strats by just removing it altogether, or could have saved dozens of resets by swallowing your pride and using it. I'm not going to lecture you which is the right move, Scott - but that indecision hurt Yanma's potential in an indirect way. Any decision made would have been better than indecision. Keep that in mind as you make your rules and seek loopholes within them. Oh, As for the lady by the pseudo tree, I think a good idea would be to check if the anime references the flower girls. Maybe bulbapedia has some insights on it? I'm personally at a loss.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon3 жыл бұрын
I certainly agree about keeping it too long. There was this lingering fear in my mind that I'd want to use it against Red before level 100. So I just kept being stubborn and not forgetting it. I tend to be that way in life. I dig in and take a long time to change.

Flying is overall a pretty strong type in Johto because of badge boosts. Every badge adds 12.5% damage to moves of the type of its respective gym, and Falkner's badge boosts Attack by 12.5% as well. After the very first gym you have stacked damage boosts for Flying moves since they're physical, making them quite powerful even in the early game when you have to rely on moves with lower base power like Gust and Wing Attack.
