Marantas quickly became some of my favorite plants to keep as a new plant mom. They don't mind a little extra care, they push new growth non stop, even the ones located in the interior of my home, far away from any windows, next to standard, artificial lit table lamps and they don't seem to mind the long, dark, dry months of winter, here the Midwest part of the US is known for. Super tolerant, beautiful plants to grow and watch, in my experience. I LOVE watching how dramatically they close and open their leaves each day to night.

Maranta's are among my favorite house plants. This was a great video. I too like to bare root my repotting's to rid the spent media from the roots. And a trick I learned from my beginner lvl Bonsai training when putting in new media is using a chop stick to probe around the root ball and all around the pot to tease in the new media around the roots. 👍

To my knowlegde, the brown/yellowing tips also is the result of overfertilizing, or hard tapwater, so it's best to use rainwater :)

True @Chris . My Calatheas wants distilled or rain water or else... 😱

Hiya!! Love your video! My maranta interestingly crisps up when I underwater mine- but i water mine more often than other plants because I live in a colder, drier climate and the only time it doesnt die is when I water quite a bit!! 🤣🤣im an underwaterer so I killed a few marantas before finally deciding that overwatering (in my tendencies) actually kept them alive. But that could also be because I have less humidity than you so I just water the top of the soil and it evaporates to become humid

I’m confused. Many others say to keep the soil damp and not to let it dry out. I have a new red maranta which I sit on wet pebbles and I have been keeping the soil damp. It seems to be doing very well. I’ve had it two months and it has 3 new leaves coming up. I haven’t fertilized cuz it’s new from the nursery. I’ve never propagated and I also haven’t kept one alive very long. I’m certain I over watered the previous plants or they didn’t like where they were placed. I’m going to be mindful with the one I have now and I love all your advice.
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
Oh this depends on where you live. I live in high humidity and high heat southeast asia. This will rot if its kept perpetually damp without drying out. Also it depends on the condition with which the plant was grown in before. Roots actually adapt to moisture level, a sudden change may kill the roots.
