What is the correct potting mix for these plants and how often should they be watered.

It kinda depends on your environment… and whats available in your region. Porous/airy mix that dries fast is recommended to be safe, they can easily rot if kept wet

I may have overwatered my fittonia and I think is dying. I tried to dry out the soil. Would you recommend to repot it? Sorry I am new to this please help.
@onlyplantsАй бұрын
I would adjust the watering instead of repotting, in my experience their delicate roots dont take well to repotting. Its also a good idea to propagate for insurance if you have viable cuttings. They are easier to root from scratch than to rescue.

They are so dramatic... I adopted one 4 months back and it was outgrowing the pot , so i repotted in a pot a inch bigger. Today after 10 days the flowering stem was droopy in the morning and fell off 😢. All other leaves look healthy and even the soil is moist ...so dont know what it wanted. Any ideas ??
@onlyplantsАй бұрын
After repotting it can hold a lot more moisture than before. Its quite possible the roots might be drowned in water and rotted off. Thats why it cannot take in water efficiently. Its also possible the roots are trying to find footing with the new media and need more time to adhere to media and to absorb properly. Take cuttings though! Water prop them so you have insurance
@BatPug417 ай бұрын
I have a pink veined fittonia and the leaves feel crunchy on the edges almost, what do I do to try and fix this?
@onlyplants7 ай бұрын
Try increasing humidity, you can tent them with something like an inverted clear jar. Also you might want to check the roots, it may not be able take in moisture meaningfully as it might have dried up or rotten off.
@sylvanaleijten844 Жыл бұрын
So my fittonia (a pink one) had a long vine (like two of them) but started hanging. I’m not sure why 😢. I don’t want her to die, this may sound stupid but I actually cried when the thought popped up. Do I need to do the same strategy? The leaves are curled up, but not crispy.
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
Oh you can try to propagate it. All plants get long and leggy at some point. You can consider covering the entire propagation in a plastic cup or glass jar to retain a lot of humidity inside. Plants will forgive us if we cannot keep them alive. Also Fittonias are some of the harder plants to maintain.
@sylvanaleijten844 Жыл бұрын
@@onlyplants thanks so much for your reply! Sadly enough my fittonia didn’t make it. It may sound crazy but I apologized and gave her a hug. @onlyplants8 ай бұрын
The first 1-3 days it should droop. Its a thirsty cutting and will drink lots of water so be sure to top it up. Give it medium light so it slows down photosynthesis during this crucial period.
@Maxinekoh3 ай бұрын
Propagated a few stems in water and they grew strong roots. I just potted them in peat moss soil and in less than 6hrs, they started drooping. Soil is moist. What’s going on :(
@onlyplants2 ай бұрын
Ohh dont worry, they will perk up again. Thisnis because their roots have not adhered to the media yet. It takes 3-5 days before they are normal. You can help it along now by covering the whole thing in clear plastic baggy to seal in humidity, this will help the plant perk up faster.

Hey Sean Im sorry I dont think I can message you in person so I randomly chose this video! Are you able to create a video for us about biochar, You use it in one of your aroid mixes and forest floor mixes. Honestly I want to learn more about it. Do I have to wait 1 month to ''charge it'' or weather it. Never heard of those terms. I was hoping I can just buy Biochar and put it inside my indoor pot plants straight away instead of leaving it outside that sounds dangerous as it could bring bad bugs, like Mealy bugs and Aphids I hate experiencing these bugs, their hardwork! I really want to use Biochar for fungus, bacteria protection and for nutrient retention that is what you explained in your video. Kind Regards I will pay you to get this video out hahaha :)
@onlyplants Жыл бұрын
Hello, you can DM me on my instagram for better reply as youtube does not notify me when you reply to my comments. @bo.tan.ist To answer your question, I use burnt rice hull, its very different from the biochar. I have no experience with biochar but I have a feeling buying it ready made is a better option unless you are producing a large batch for retail or distribution.

I found a broken section at my local Home Depot. I had some extra glass containers I got from a Dollar Tree, so I set up a tiny terrarium to see if I can root it. It looks absolutely beautiful in my terrarium styled rehab center. Activated charcoal and matching small black stones as the false bottom, a screen on top the the rocks, I guessed and used an orchid and tropical plant soil with added perlite and some Pon for aeration, then decorative pebbles on top of the soil to help keep the leaves off of the soil. To close it, as of now, is just cling wrap. I’m going to figure out a cute top for it soon. It was wilting by the time I got it home but perked up and looked as if it was planted for years the next morning. Let’s see what happens!
