Your resourcefulness in finding and repurposing materials for these bases is really impressive- gave me a lot of ideas, thanks.

That's awesome, I'm really glad you found the video helpful and huge apologies for the delay in responding! I think with basing there are so many different materials out there to experiment with that really enhance the look of a miniature or squad. My go to basing technique for the past year or so has definitely been cork. Such a versatile material but when combined with other basing materials it really does bring the miniatures to life rather than having them on a flat base. But its always good to experiment with whatever you can find. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated 🙂👍

The cork addiction continues! Nice video

Thanks Dom! I said to Martin that cork board is now my go to material for pretty much anything that I base these days. Easy to work with, versatile and very cheap 😊

Thanks Cal! Hopefully people will see what I've done with these four types of basing and make them their own, improve on them and apply them to different settings and periods 😊

Great vid mate. For any bolt action modelling you are the go to guy! Great stuff!
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Jonny! I should probably venture into other periods on occasion but it's definitely Bolt Action that is my main interest 😀

Wonderful video! Nice technique for your basing. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Victor, it was pretty difficult choosing what four to pop into the video but hopefully the ones that I chose give a good cross section of the basing that can be achieved using some very simple and easy techniques :)

I rly love your painting and basing tutorials:) Doing my own usmc project right now:D But what herbs exactly do you used for your bases? Tahnks in advance. Cheers
@OnPointHQ3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nils! Really glad you enjoy the videos buddy. Ahh USMC are such nice figures to work on, always enjoyed painting mine. In the UK they are just called mixed herbs. They come in small jars and are basically a mixture of chopped up herbs. If you look for mixed herbs in herb and spice sections or look on Amazon. They are really inexpensive and work really really well. Hope that helps! If you have any more questions, just let me know 😀

Cheers Martin, much appreciated! It was difficult picking just four techniques and keeping the video under about nine hours......😀

Just ran across your channel a couple weeks ago. Great video! Really love the jungle bases. I too use the mixed herbs for forested bases. Great stuff! I was wondering where you got the Major Körnig fig? Was he one of your fantastic kit bashes? Cheers!
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lawrence, that's awesome cheers! Mixed herbs is such a great material for jungle and forest floors, it really does look the part and is really easy to apply. Plus the smell doesn't last very long either! Yes the Koenig figure is one that I kitbashed. The video can be found here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5vUkKaZasZgoK8 ☺

Excellent video mate, really learned a lot here! I’ll be sure I use some of these techniques if I ever move beyond Stalingrad aha!
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Josh! That is certainly how I felt after basing two entire jungle themed armies, going to the urban ruins of Stalingrad was definitely something of a much welcome distraction! For me personally, basing is more of trying anything and everything that may or not work :)

Excellent video Ste. I like all you techniques on all of them, but I really like how you done the Pacific bases. Top drawer mate 👍
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Lee, much appreciated buddy! The Pacific basing is definitely some of my favourite so far. It's pretty simple to do but even on basic infantry it works well to tie the sections and ultimately the whole army together 😊

Cheers Jim, much appreciated! I could have talked for hours about how much I enjoy basing but that wouldn't have been entertaining in the slightest! Hopefully people will see bits and pieces that they can use in their own projects 😊

Good Stuff.......perfect. You keep getting better and better 👍 Your ‘METAL’ (😳) Aussies look really well painted too ! Can’t fault those superb bases. Much more interesting than mine. Keep up the Great work buddy 👍
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome, cheers Guy! As much as I am not a huuuuge fan of metal miniatures, I really did enjoy painting my Australian army which is 100% metal. But no conversions or kit bashing which was a bit strange for me! I think basing is one element of the hobby that will always have me looking for new techniques and different ways of making them 😊

Nice video mate, what parts did you use for the german sniper?
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
Cheers buddy! Koenig is mostly made up of bits and pieces from the Grenadier and winter German boxes. The fur collar on his tunic was made from building up layers of green stuff. There is a video about the build here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5vUkKaZasZgoK8 :)

This is so cool! But I have a question - what kind of herbs are there in the mix? They look perfect, but we don't have "Mixed herbs" here and I wonder which one to buy.
@OnPointHQ2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I've been using these on jungle basing for years and I'm always impressed with how it looks. Mixed herbs are made up of a mixture of thyme,marjoram, parsley, oregano, sage and basil. So I imagine if you picked these up individually and mixed them all together it would come pretty close to looking like this. Hope that helps! 😀

Definitely want to try doing something like you stalingrad basing for winter 101st airborne.
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
That would look really pretty awesome! I imagine the technique would certainly work for your Airborne. You could throw in logs and snow covered foliage for that Ardennes/Battle of the Bulge feel. If you try it, let me know how you get on 😊👍
@rjlarose52714 жыл бұрын
Yeah I want to try some like that and some in the wilderness for a good mix.
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
I think the combination of forests and snow would look pretty sweet 😊
@rjlarose52714 жыл бұрын
Yeah definitely. I've done muddy trench board bases for my 40k death korps of krieg. So something challenging like a snowy forest would be cool.

Would be nice to see how you base in real time. I like the sniper behind the window.

Cheers Lucian! I was really pleased with how the Koenig kit bash turned out so wanted to put him on a base that was a little bit different. A real time basing video may be being made soon 😊

Is the mixed herb not fragrant?
@OnPointHQ2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hunter, they can be for a day or two but once they've been glued to the base for a little while the aroma/fragrance tends to disappear. I've used these on a couple of armies and the smell has always gone away not long after basing. Hope that helps 😀

I'll be getting some corkboard from Home Bargains now.
@OnPointHQ4 жыл бұрын
Top stuff! Cork board is easily my favourite material to work with and is cheap as chips. Another good type of cork to use are those round pieces you put hot pans on. They are a lot thicker and are great for bigger bits of broken masonry etc 😊
